You do realize Facebook uses their browser cookies to track where you go online, even after you leave their site? Meaning they know every. Single. Porn website you have looked at recently.

I assume that much, yes.

I am sure Facebook is not the only site tracking your internet behavior ....cough cough Google

Also...not that there is anything wrong with a normal porn site... It sounds like you are worried about people tracking porn sites that are visited.

There are billions of people looking at those and most are harmless. So it shouldn't be a big deal. ..... unless of course you actively go to "child" sites .... then you deserve the consequences.

Probably also a good idea to clear your cookies on a regular basis.

Do you facebook fanatics realize when facebook ask for 2 to 3 password changes in a 1 week span they are fishing for your passwords. I am very sure government and federal security firms are buying your private info and passwords.

ROFL look who's talking about spelling.

And professionalism? On ATS? I'll have some of what you're smoking sir.

As for my spelling, either you don't have a single funny bone in your body or it's stuck somewhere inaccessible

First, I need to shock people with the news that, guess what ? Everything that happens on the net stays on the net. All your information, who you are and where you have been. There is no such thing as privacy on the net. Figure that out, ok, let's move on.

I use facebook. I like it (no pun intended). It connects people from all over and brings them together into a forum. I use it more than my personal email account. Plus it's easier than Youtube for videos etc.

I agree. It connects people from places all over the world. I've met some really nice people through it. Some of them heard my music, got in touch with me and we kept in touch from there on. When I visited their country a year ago they put me up, took me out and showed me a great time. I did the same for them too when they came down. It was all good. I learnt a truckload about their country and culture and vice versa. How exactly is this a bad thing?

People are just way too paranoid nowadays, especially on ATS.
'Oh my personal info is too precious to me boohoo. I don't want the big bad men upstairs to get their hands on it because I'm so important boohoo'

Simple solution. Throw your computers away and go live in some remote region of Antarctica. That way your 'personal information' will forever be safe.......unless you think the penguins will try and infiltrate your igloo

Not true at all, try to speak your mind or give an opinion on Facebook... you might have some house visits.

Then you have the owner of Facebook selling you and your family info underhandedly to private corporations.

FACEBOOK IS VERY EVIL...

It will always come down to monies..

If the site is free it has to generate revenue somehow, especially sites as big as a social networking site which cost a huge sum to maintain. So you either charge a fee .. steal user info and tailor adverts to them .. or let users choose an advert to be displayed on their page.

People expect everything online to be free, and the majority of people have no idea what goes into building and maintaining a huge site like Facebook/Unthink/Myspace/Google+ etc etc.

Maybe you should brush up on Lenin's revolutionary theory. I'm not talking about communism either, just pure revolutionary theory that works. He specifically states that it is useful and acceptable to use the available tools and even to work with the system in order to burrow your ideological forces into it (for instance, gaining seats in parliament).

I mean really, do you think that all revolutionaries/reformists are rebels who live in huts in the woods? They are people too, and the more connected they are with society (yet not consumed by society), the better.

How did you 'delete' it? Do you mean just deactivate? Or did you actually delete it? I've heard there is a way to delete it permanently.. just curious

Do you honestly think it's okay for Facebook to sell the information that you like lesbians, BDSM, BBW or any other form of porn? Really? That's totally okay with you?

Hmmm I don't think you fully understand technology and the internet.

I am not saying I do either.

But Facebook does not know what pron videos you are streaming to your computer.

They may be able to see that you went to a "website" but there cookies are not tracking what you click on those sites.

If you regularly clear your cookies and LOGOUT of facebook instead of just closing out the tab then there is not much they can track.

Now... if you embed a video on facebook or a link ...then that's a different story.

I tried to search for it but couldn't find a thread here on ATS that was all about how much your information goes for on the internet. Very good read.

Google does the same thing ....if you log into your gmail or youtube and don't logout .....you are giving google your entire browsing session that you just did on the web.

That's a tough question with many ethical issues that should be debated.

Ya i'm fairly certain the second you press enter on those they are immediately encrypted w/ MD5 and then salted... If not MD5 then something else.

When websites store your information (most) will use MD5 encryption or at the very least MAYBE a base64 encode which then goes in to a database of sorts (MYSQL Postgre MSSQL Oracle whatever) Once it's encrypted it's virtually impossible to decrypt... "How do they remember your password then?" you ask? It's easy... when you type it in and press enter to login it re encrypts what you put and then matches it to the information stored in the database... this is why USUALLY when you click 'Forgot Password' it will have you either reset the password or give you a new one... because it can't decrypt what it has to tell you what it was.

so... TL;DR I'm pretty sure you're just fear mongering and making your life that much more worst in the process.

Also, all you people crying about the privacy settings.... WGAF (Read in to that yourself) geeze.... You guys come here spouting about freedoms and sh.. yet start crying up a river when you see something you don't like.... I dont understand what is so damn difficult about staying away from crap YOU don't like... You think TV is violent? Don't buy one... but don't try to tell other people they shouldn't watch TV. You don't want facebook giving out your information? Well guess what? DON'T GIVE IT TO THEM. Most of you people whining are the types that would come to my job asking why we aren't giving you a copy of your child porn collection after we terminated your account... Bunch of idiots.

Look at it this way.
If Facebook were selling a movie they didn't have the rights to, they would be sued.
But they ARE collecting information on people who don't even have a Facebook account and therefor never agreed to their TOS, which means they were never given the right to sell our information. But they are.

What's the difference, aside from a normal person's lack of money?

you people must have your most intmint secrets and thoughts on face book and all your financing profile as well hu?
If you use it for what its good for finding friends meeting people sharing your photos (if its risky they wont alway it)
then whats the problem?? its not like you have to click on averts or they even have pop ups .
Heck you guys want something to complain about how about need a separate folder for all teh unsolicited spam email we get?? none of that with facebook .

Eh, well like I said on page 3.... if people were THAT worried about it.. they'd stop whining and get smart. There are ways to surf anonymously.

I'm pretty sure a (corporation/government) needs no hack if they payoff Facebook for passwords, it's not like they need a rainbow crack program lol. The government does have their own weaponized hash schemes, however the greatest weapon is money.

I'm not talking about vulnerability leaks. Those reset passwords can be rerouted quietly before sending it along to its original destination. When the door is open Facebook sheeple would never know they had been compromised and being sold.

As far as MD5 and decryption goes, there is no such thing as cryptological assurance.

I've never said people shouldn't be careful with their own information, of course they should! But Facebook is shady, and they are selling information that they have no right to.
