The protests in New York City's lower Manhattan, popularly known as "Occupy Wall Street," are increasing in both participation from various concerned parties and attention in mainstream media. This survey will help identify the opinions of visitors to AboveTopSecret.com regarding the issues which have inspired the protests, as well the expected effectiveness and outcome.

ATS Survey: Occupy Wall Street

The survey has three pages, each with a theme:

Page One of the survey will gauge your overall perception of the protests and movement.

Page Two will gauge your ideas on specific goals of the protests.

Page Three asks some important questions about mainstream media, and the role of violence in the protests.

ATS Survey: Occupy Wall Street

The results will be posted in a few days.

And special thanks to ATS member TDawgRex for submitting the idea (and a few inspirations for questions) for this survey.

YES!!

Finally!

Going to take it right now

One of the last questions

"I believe that, if violence is to occur, that those responsible should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, and that they should expect such prosecution as a necessary outcome."

I dont really know how to answer this, because laws are put in place by the very people who are being protested against...and the punishment lessened for those who enfoce the laws, compared to the "peons/people"... And I think that is also a major issue at play here, certain groups of people being "more equal" than others...

Its pretty obvious the cops are allowed to swing away with clubs, let their sprays go, while the people have to just sit there and absorb the hits , and even get arrested after being beaten... For just doing something our constitution should protect us against

Greetings casual viewers and members,

....at this point i would like it made apparent to everyone that one should take carefull consideration and contemplate the time scale involved regarding these events that spilled over from Europe to within the U.S. and within 2012 will have the same or similiar news and reactions from within the Asian continent.

Thank you for reading.

Some will point to WSWS.org (Fourth International founded by Leon Trotsky socialist website...) coverage, but there are news which show not only communists(example, Philadelphia Inquirer).

There is potential for hijack, but very nature of leaderless might buffer against/delay

unskewed vote?

"Occupy Wall Street" protest movement seeks a Philadelphia foothold
October 02, 2011|By Harold Brubaker, Inquirer Staff Writer

articles.philly.com/2011-10-02/business/30235293_1_income-growth-planning-meeting-protest

Ahuviya Harel wore a Soviet flag Thursday to the first Occupy Philadelphia planning meeting, one of many efforts nationwide aiming to echo New York's two-week-old Occupy Wall Street protest against the "greed and corruption" of the richest 1 percent of Americans.

Communism is "my ultimate goal, in many years, for this country," Harel said, glancing down at the flag, because "the rich keep getting richer, and everybody else is just struggling to get by or getting poorer."

Later, after the meeting of about 200 in the soaring, ornate sanctuary of the Arch Street United Methodist Church, Shawn McMonigle, who overheard Harel's comment, urged:

"Don't skew us with that communist dude."

McMonigle and the young men he was standing with outside the church said they were not sure how they would change the economic and political systems, though they agree that socialism and communism had been tried in other countries and were not the answer.

I filled it out, but I have a lot of grave misgivings about this.

To begin with, the principle I agree with, and want a world of complete equality without money, as its all slavery, and good equalizing services freely abundant, everyone prospered even the handicapped.

However, this particular movement seems to be tied into Obama and his election, OR he's capitalizing on it, but the students interviewed looked very yuppy to me. I'm not sure they represent average students, and the one in particular was shallow in his answers, he was wearing a scarf, he just felt fake.

I don't think its what people think. Even our protests aren't real any more, they're staged.

I do believe in protest, kind of meditiatonal prayer. I also believe in nonreacting to any form of false flag or problem, as we should realize by now there is already one government and one country in the world and everything is just posturing. If something terrible happens thats hurts my own family, I'm not going to blame the mexicans, the muslims, but the global elite. So not reacting would be ideal. And not willingly going to war. Not obeying bad orders, laws or statutes, of course that takes brave people too, and a willingness to say, "Are you taking my free will away? Do I have a choice? I'm sorry, this is against everything I believe in so I cannot comply!"

Non violent, non participation. And forming groups, citizen counsels in every region to discuss problems and corruption and poverty in this world, and start to meet up and negotiate with local and regional governments, etc etc.

If any violence is staged, we're allowing ourselves to be passive/aggressives, sheeple/reactionaries.

It takes real work to grow up, cooperation, respect for everyone in you community, especially the vulnerable without blaming them, and giving a voice to everyone, and getting it together like adults, to discuss and negotiate and not budge or follow bad orders.

It also takes ignoring them if they keep an unjust system and if none of our voices count, and starting to do good works in our communities together, equalize together, do things, like donate land for the homeless, share gardens with the shutins, share some work, and start trading in non monied services, pool up and replace the corporations and run small local businesses with shares especially for the homeless and handicapped, and getting land uses changed so a tract of land can house more than one family and can erect up recylcled, eco homes or yurts.

It takes work.

And we never do it.

This is a political thing, not even a protest, just like in the middle east, and look what they got. The Brotherhood. Well Banna and the Nazi party were pretty darn tight, and this movement of oppression went from a tiny minority group to a huge, cia/illumanit backed monster.

I had the same quandary. Cops can use violence and excessive force but citizens can't...seems like BS to me...so I voted neutral on both loaded questions regarding violence.

Good survey.

I was disappointed in some of the previous surveys but this one has some good improvements. Keep up the good work guys.

Oh, but please, make the graphs a little bit less confusing if you can. Some of them are downright difficult to grasp for those of us who weren't invited to the Mensa meetings.

Edit: I just want to say, I too have the same misgivings about these things as you do, but it's a survey, it simply cannot be perfectly worded to suit every person's taste. I took it in good faith that the questions that seemed so loaded wouldn't be used against me later. I answered the questions to the best of my ability and I think that some of you are being quite demanding. Consider if YOU had to make a survey that is big in information while short enough in size that people don't get frustrated and quit. It's hard to please everyone. Just keep that in mind and remember, this is only a survey for our own ATS website community.

I believe these protests are encouraged by the Obama socialist/communist followers and that Obama and his billion dollar machine will work to bring things to a boil in the months preceding the election.

The playbook is right out of "Mein Kampf"

I tend to think the people who keep endlessly repeating stuff like this verbatim are the real followers.

Every time I see one of these surveys I can't help but hear the words of Marlon Brando to James Caan playing in my head. From The Godfather..."Never tell anyone outside the Family what you are thinking."

Yeah, me too. neutral on a number of answers, was hard to speculate. Because reliable info if hard to track. In general though, I do think it is time for a little unrest to stir the pot. Three years and billions in bailouts later, the guys who turned the world economy into a dismal topic still remain at large and unpunished, even as millions of people world wide are getting a hefty economic backlash as a result. The consumer end has certainly been punished for their excessive borrowing, as they loose their homes, their jobs, their gadgets, and had their entire retirements wiped out. The Wall Street/Banking end, however, remains brazenly at large, no worse for the wear. And I honestly see this changing nowhere in the near future, at least.

So while I do not know enough about the purpose/message of the protests enough to fully agree/disagree, I do think some unrest, for any reason, is a good thing. Enron got more investigation and prosecution than the highly questionable marketing/investment behavior of the world's financial institutions, and Enron was a mere fart in a thunderstorm compared to the current world crisis. And the people with the most responsibility have been punished the least. In fact, they survive afloat on billions in bailout money from the pockets of people that are being punished. Maybe if all the people who have lost everything, or are about to lose everything, start becoming more noisy and difficult, maybe we will finally see the heads roll on the other side of the court.

Perhaps not directly. But just as the "tea party" has been hijacked by conservative/republican concerns and media, expect this "herbal tea party" to be similarly hijacked by liberal/democrat concerns and media.

I guess it requires an organization that has members who are familiar with methods of exploitation rather than spontaneous and indirect methods of stimulation that achieve what the initial think tanks have created but are as history has shown far from apparent to the majority.

I think you have a skewed view of what people want out of this.

For instance, I would have to say government is almost completely to blame. Wall Street and the world's financial institutions have taken to scalping the populous, not necessarily out of "evil" intention, but because their ability to make profits under a free market have been dramatically challenged by the overabundance of pointless and counter-intuitive regulation. The only individual firms that can survive in this climate are ones that take cutthroat actions against the consumer (e.g. constantly passing government tax and levy along through price increases, wage cuts, or layoffs). In addition, social welfare, in other words "free stuff", are a cancer to the economy, the only incentives the government receives are votes. The majority of social welfare programs (there are rightful exceptions) do nothing to actually stimulate the economy, and put an incentive on not working as hard, not producing as much, and not taking personal responsibility.
