honour killing tends to be quite a stupid localised cultural thing...
In india hindus have been known to do this as well as muslims. Its just a stupid and badly disguised exzcuse for controlling ones womenfolk through
violence. It is very rarely men who are killed for 'shaming' anything/anyone...

Wow, honor killing. Damn, maybe Ted Bundy wasn't a serial killer, he was just performing a bunch of honor killings. Damn, according to their rules
I could wipe them all out. Not by killing the men, but the women. Basically do to the middle east what china has done to itself. Kill off all the
women, the men have no way to procreate, they vanish off the planet.

Wow, I never knew this. I'm a hindu myself, but I've never heard of hindus killing their own children in a mistaken sense of duty or any such
thing.
Care to provide examples of this going on in India?
I know that abortion due to the child being a girl is a problem in India, but that's not quite the same thing, and it certainly isn't because of
some sense of honor.

'Honor' killing is NOT exclusive to muslim culture. I have heard of this in India and Brazil. And in Brazil it has nothing to do with religion. If a
man feels a woman has 'violated' his honor he can use that argument in his defense. I remember hearing about this several years ago in Brazil,
things may or may not have changed there since then.
It really has to do with the fact that many cultures see women as second class citizens. Some of them see women more as property than human.
Texan, Dan Leach, is reported to have killed his pregnant girlfriend Ashley Nicole Wilson [confessing after seeing "Passion of the Christ"] because
he was EMBARRASSED at having a physical relationship with her.
Could it be that a lot of heterosexual guys are not 'all there' upstairs?

I think we see many people who let their political views interceed on every subject they touch and I think thats what stemmed Ashler's comments. In
the eyes of many, if we admit there is a credible threat from militant Islam against women and free countries throughout the world, then, to them, we
help justify GW Bush and his actions. That is neither here nor there. Even Hillary Clinton, Tom Dashle, and Bill Clinton have admitted the threat is
viable so lets not make it our mission to make excuses for these killers based on a short-temr political goal which, in the big picture, will make
little difference. The truth is, this is happening in our world today and refering to a savage time in civilization to somehow validate it serves
only but to remind us of how far we've come in any respects and how awefull these kinds of acts are. If you find it acceptable for militant muslims
to hunt anyone based on their gender and measure of personal freedom, you are wrong.

I am a Muslim and these extremist Muslims make me pissed off very much. Islam is a religion of Peace. These folks have been taught the wrong thing. I
will tell you this is not right and they deserve to get their ass beat for making the good ones(like me) look bad.
I met a man in Riyadh who was missing some fingers. "What happened?" I asked him. He replied, "Someone told the Muttawa (religious police) I had a
pornographic magazine." So the Saudi religious police, knowing he made his living sewing clothes removed both his pinkies because he had this
magazine. He wasn't even Muslim, just a worker from the Philippines.
On another occasion I was told by a friend not to mention Jesus while in Saudi Arabia. He became very quiet when I breached the topic. "Never talk
about these things in public", he said. So even though Muhammad claimed Jesus was a prophet of God, you can be arrested and jailed for speaking about
Him ouside of the context of the Koran.
From my personal experience Islam is intolerant, and cruel at best. Read more about the Muttawa in this blog.
This guy lives in Saudi Arabia, so you can hear it first hand from him, how peaceful their religious police are. If they would chop off fingers for
owning a pornographic magazine, they would surely kill you for being involved in it's production. This isn't an extremist view, this is normal
Islam. If you lived there for a few months like I did, your eyes would be opened to the truth.
EDIT: In addition to:
I almost forgot about this story...
bbc - Saudi police 'stopped' fire rescue
Saudi Arabia's religious police stopped schoolgirls from leaving a blazing building because they were not wearing correct Islamic dress, according to
Saudi newspapers.
One witness said he saw three policemen "beating young girls to prevent them from leaving the school because they were not wearing the abaya".
Please visit the link provided for the complete story.
O yes, the kind and peaceful religion that we call Isalm. So consider this the final bit of evidence. If they would rather let innocent school girls
die because their head isn't covered, they kill a porn star easily.

This calls to mind the story [probably apocryphal] of a british man in india, back when it was a british colony. He had prevented (or was part of the
governemnt that prevented or whatever) a woman from commiting sutee upon the death of her husband (she was going to throw herself on his funeral pyre
thereby killing herself). The britisher expressed that he was appaled at this, and an indian man said 'you must understand, this is our way, our
tradition', to which the britisher replied c.f 'it is our tradition to forbid such things'.
Or some such. But you get the point.
Besides, the above is a muslim girl in -Norway-, not Iran, and honour killings are obviously unjustifiable and disgusting.

Note to Ashlar: I was being slightly tongue in cheek. The truth is that men with too much testosterone do tend to become somewhat unstable and
aggressive. They can also develop strange views on some subjects, especially relating to sex. This would apply to gay as well as straight males. It is
fun to take an occasional cheap shot at heterosexuals though. Darn, you called me on it.
Here is an article on 'Honor' killings from National Geographic:

EDIT:
OK, I see this thread was about to derail here for a second (see below).
So this single post is gone now so we can get back on track. Who won the bloody contest anyway is not the issue here, so lets move on...
First of all, of course I donīt approve rape (did anybody get that impression?).
The point is that there are "western" laws and rules and ways, and there are muslim laws and rules and ways. They donīt mix well.
I say: They should adjust to our ways when they choose to move to a western country. We should not have to adjust our ways to suit their "needs".
I.e. building mosques, practice sharia-laws and so on. When we are "there" we have to adjust to their ways (except for the raping stuff ), and
we canīt even mention Jesus in public without getting into serious trouble. Christ, by posting this thread I probably qualify to get my arms and legs
chopped off (and maybe more than "just" arms and legs).

If we'd all like to see this topic continue, lets keep the sexual tone down as well as stop the name calling. If this deteriorates into a chit-chat
conversation about how hot a porn star looks, then it'll go to chit-chat. I suggest that last post be edited and the slur taken out against the
poster of the former topic. That kind of hot headedness might work where you're from but it won't fly here. People can have their opinions and
even state facts that you wish kept secret. A persoanl attack when you have no recourse is not the answer on ATS.
