I see the elites as just greedy people with a big hole inside they try to fill with wealth. There is a point in time where wanting more is just ridiculous.
They don't just want "more" - they want immortality. Hence the corporate structure replacing monarchies and the like. ...Corporations are immortal, and they are "persons" under law. So even if individual elites die, family control lives on.
But they're still going for individual immortality too - most likely, half the diseases we have result from them 'testing' longevity drugs on us.
