The problem with the debt is the interest on the debt. Running deficits aren't bad until the interest on the debt forces high inflation and that is what is happening now. There isn't enough tax revenue to sustain the debt now. It doesn't matter what Washington does now. If they raise the debt ceiling then the country will default through inflation years down the road. If they don't raise the country defaults now. Ask Greece, if we default through inflation it will be a lot worse. We won't default now. They will raise the debt ceiling further debasing the dollar and causing high food and gas prices. Watch after Tuesday, the debt ceiling will be raised and the dollar will take hit by the EURO as gas, food and other commodities soar. It will be business as usual as we head for default through hyperinflation. Don't worry the status quo will prevail and it will be business as usual as unemployment and people on Food Stamps soar.

By all means BRING THE TROOPS HOME TOMORROW...obawma has the power to order them all on the first planes out of there...at once.......have them all home in 4 weeks...but hes too big a chickensh*t to do anything meaningful...he wants to "compromise"....and read his teleprompter to see what oros wants him to say and do next...dont sit here and yell about troops in foreign wars...the man to handle that is sitting up there right now....and doing squat

I personally like Obama and still think there could be hope for the guy as President but it's so extremely doubtful. He has lied and broke promises since he took Office.....just like every other President of the United States in history.

So damn proud gay rights have gone further under his Administration but other than that, he hasn't done much I can support, especially when it comes to the foreign policy. Actually, I really respected his Israel stance....just too bad many Republicans tore him apart for it and praised the nation we aid so much to kill children in Palestine.

/End of rambling, lol.

Let's just state it like it is, just talking about the debt ceiling topic that was raised by the OP. Raising the debt ceiling is not a solution. It's silly. No person who has gotten extremely deep in debt fixes the debt by going deeper in debt, which is what the debt ceiling amounts to. These are the people who are bankrupt in our society.

Raising the debt ceiling is absurd. That's like going to your bank after you have borrowed and borrowed and borrowed, and now you can't pay it back, then you ask for another loan. How does that fix anything? Not to mention a normal bank isn't going to do that.

I feel like it's more of a manipulation of the dollar. It's like a scheme to devalue the dollar, so someone must be on the other end ready to profit from the collapse in some way.

Putting ourselves deeper in debt, now that's what is really dangerous. See, our government is either stupid or evil, maybe both. The government, honestly gets plenty of tax dollars. But, they can't seem to "live within their means." If you can't pay for it, then don't purchase it, should be their attitude. But, no, deeper in debt, and then even deeper. It's completely nuts. Do you realize we are fighting wars we can't even pay for, and then we start more. Our own country needs help, but money is flying in other places. And, instead of allowing the freedom to rebuild the country, what do we get? More restrictions, more laws, more attacks on freedom, making progress harder to make.

As far as a Tea Party goes, I don't know. I don't know who really drives some of these tea parties. But, if it's a genuine group of citizens who just want to restore our country, then it can be a good thing.

Yet as has happened throughout history, the tea party will become the empire in power and oppression will begin again, the only real solution to save "America" and restore true freedom to the people is to end the federal government altogether.

Marx did say it : capitalism will in the end destroy itself because of intern contradictions, it's a schizo
system where you have the extreme greed of a little group of people and corporations wanting always more and more profit and on the other side the need of a society that has to be in balance and needs that same money for living in peace, for education, for logistics ( roads etc .. ) and so much more.
So, the evolution to always bigger corporatism, concentration of economic and financial power, the need of the
beast-system for always more and more $$$$ profit to get bigger and bigger with more and more power in its hands, that is the gun on our head !!
What to do ? first with legislation and otherwise ( Monsanto ... ) fight big corporations that kill economic competition between different players, fight politicians who get paid and corrupted by those corporations to pass THEIR laws and not the ones that are good for the people !
lots of things to do but first of all LEARN and READ about economics, use our brain and not our guts before voting, and also after ....
Tea Party really is a fraud, it's a instrument of the rich and powerfull wealthy people and corporations to
manipulate the naive people for their own intrests, they use the guts of Joe Sixpack to obtain what they want =
more and more $$$$$ more and more POWER !! Poor world, we are at the end of the capitalist system, it is going to implode and make lots of victims of course !! The beginning was yet Lehmann fraud !! The end is near.
Be prepared, but you are not, you have no system to replace this one but there is a system possible,
it's called DIRECT DEMOCRACY on each level of society with possibility to dismiss/relieve the choosen politicians immediatly when not doing what they were voted for in office ....
Read about ERNEST MANDEL, RIP, he was one of the most intelligent actual economists, Belgian professor, he has LOTS of writings about neo-capitalism and neo-liberalism !!! Very very interesting stuff !

The congress provides a great counter balance to an extremist senate that insists upon seemingly infinitely raising the debt limit and spending more of our taxpayer money. Our "goose is cooked" if we raise the limit, the debt will still eventually need to be paid (which I hear is now mathematically impossible) if we refuse to raise it, the same is true, it needs to be paid, we have already defaulted, the government might as well own up to it in the present and not keep putting off the inevitable. An ultimate default of the American debt purposefully constructed of strongly fettered chains built though the guise of helping the people is as inevitable as the existence of God. I fail to see how what the congress is doing is any worse than the alternative proposed by the liberals.Socialism administered by a corrupt government never can provide a permanent answer to the needs of the poor, and the poor will always be with us.

The government itself is the problem.

Which is the second problem after people and their attitudes.

These problems would not exist if it were not for the corporations paying for the violence and fear of government control.
Direct Democracy is the most evil forms of governance ever thought of. 2 men and 1 woman vote on having sex, guess who loses?

The Tea Party is not "abusing" power, they are stopping the religious right, Marxist left, overspending, overreaching, power hungry, banker controlled, completely out of control, republicans, and democrats alike from abusing THEIR power.

You know something... when I was a child, my parents frequently argued over money. My father tried to be responsible and only buy things he needed/could afford. My mother, on the other hand, liked to run up enormous credit card bills. Every time she maxed out a card, she'd simply "increase her ceiling" and get a new card. Eventually my father had enough and kicked her ass to the curb (like we should these bozos who supposedly represent OUR interests). Today, as my mother is working her ass off and barely scraping by. My father has no debt whatsoever, and lives quite happily on his small retirement income.

WE THE PEOPLE DID NOT RUN UP THIS DEBT. Our government betrayed us and want to stick us with the bill. Screw that. We are no more responsible for their debt than my father was for my mother's credit cards. It's time to follow suit and kick their asses to the curb.

I, for one, welcome the "economic Armageddon" they keep trying to use to scare us. I've been paying attention and doing my homework. I've stored food, I know how to grow food, I know how to purify water, I can live without, and I have plenty of ammo.

Let our phony-ass dollar collapse, let the welfare bums (and big businesses alike) fail if they can't support themselves, let there be social unrest and revolution. When the smoke clears and the dust settles we can finally work on real solutions--based on responsibility, accountability, self determination, free market forces, and survival of the fittest. Maybe next time we won't let government get so big and we'll learn to fend for ourselves. Maybe we can even weed out some tax feeders, tyrannical over-reachers, and human monkey wrenches that stand in the way of freedom and progress.

Im sorry, I have to disagree. I doubt seriously most T Partiers voted for Obama. I would say that most of them did NOT vote for him because they KNEW he is a Marxist and KNEW he was planning terrible things and KNEW he was going to redistribute money. It wasn't hard to see from the start. People fled the market because they knew. Obama was always and still is far left. Any leaning to the right is simply to fool the unsuspecting and pretend to be moderate.

The biggest problem with America is the so called middle class who for the last forty years or so though they could be players at the big boys table. They started flipping houses and drove that market beyond reasonable and lined up to give banks and corporations their money to invest in stock market. The nineties hit and everyone was going to get rich on the dot com craze and while a few a the top of the pyramid made boatloads of money a lot lost their shirt. Even today there are ads and infomercials for some get rich scheme to separate you from your money.

A lot with dollar signs in their eyes dreaming of vacations, fast cars and big houses throwing away any savings, their future and now needing social programs intended for the elderly, poor and disabled.

Now the Democrats want to raise taxes and spend more and more. As some have pointed out the previous congresses and administrations have put the car in the ditch. The current administration is gunning the accelerator hoping something will change if they try once more. Instead they are digging the wheels in and the frame is sitting on the ground. I think the best analogy for the tea party is they want to cut our loses, bury the car and walk.

LOL they're all this way.

In a game of chicken, the Republicans are too stupid to turn away, the Dems are too scared to crash into them.

When Obama says "I'm gonna veto xyz out of hand" it's no different than what the Repubs have been doing for ages. Finally someone grew a pair.

They're all idiots.

Just to reinforce your response a pure democracy is mob rule. Under mob rule minorities have no protection. Usually the term "minority" is associated with race or religion. However, there is a type of minority that appears in every country and that is the wealthy or prosperous part of the population. Without legal protections limiting mob rule their wealth will be stolen. Liberals, Democrats, progressives, socialists and communists all promote the same theme which is to use the power of the mob to steal from the haves and give to not necessarily the have-nots but to the members of their mob or gang. The current method of theft is by way of government debt induced inflation magically stealing purchasing power from peoples banks accounts formerly without them realizing it. But people have now caught on to the trick and they are enraged. Hence the Tea Party movements desire to stop government over spending. Some also want to stop private debt creation whose total is 5 times the size of the government debt and can also cause inflation eventually. Currently fear is freezing the velocity of money causing a deflation threat. The Democratic party is the vehicle the poor mob uses to steal money from the not poor. The middle class portion of the not poor are also under attack by the ultra-wealthy. The ultra-wealthy are the top 1/10 of 1% of the population and are mostly bankers. They have used both major political parties in the past to attack the middle class for example by getting Congress to allow usurious interest rates on credit cards. They profit from excessive debt because they collect interest on it. The Tea Party is essentially the best bet for those who are not poor and not in the top 1/10 of 1% of wealth.

"Deny ignorance".

A great motto. Unfortunately, one seldom adhered to on these forums.

For all the drama and fear mongering, the debt ceiling was just raised in 2006 under Bush, and guess what, the same people who are in favor of it now, all voted against it then.

Thats right, Obama as Senator voted against raising the debt ceiling and every Republican, with the exception of 3, voted in favor of it. Politics as usual for the 2-headed, 1-party system.

If it is so crucial to raise the debt ceiling, why would Senator Obama and every Democrat have voted against it?

www.govtrack.us...

The debt ceiling does not have to be raised, nor does there need to be a "default". The debt addicts in Washington, DC simply need to cut spending, but they refuse to do it.

No one is willing to cut the titanic domestic programs nor are they willing to downsize the enormous global military empire. Instead, the American citizens/victims will suffer in the form of inflation and higher taxes resulting in a near worthless currency, which has already lost 95% of its buying power since the creation of the "Federal Reserve".

race based. That's pretty funny. That's the hilarious garbage spewed out of DailyKos and Huffpo, the Soros machine in order to deface the Tea Party and render it useless. You got punked by the commies bud.

In fact, it's really a travesty the first Black President of the US turned out to be an anti-American, anti-Constitutionalist Marxist communist globalist One Worlder. Ok well they will be One Worlders because the NWO has such a stronghold now. You can bet I would vote for Allen West in a heartbeat. Too bad he's not running this time.

Everything you've said here is f***ing insane and not based in reality. Seriously, do you ever take a step back and look at what you're saying?

Yes, always. Do you? We are just at ideologically opposite ends of the scale. You have your opinion and I have mine.

I have refuted you “ republic” guys twice already. If you don’t know that tis country is a democracy, because you read something about a republic, then you know little about history and the philosophy of government, not to mention that my OP said nothing about America being a democracy or republic exclusively. The fact of the matter is that technically this country is a democracy and a republic and not one over the other.

No country is entirely a democracy or republic, a country uses democratic means
[ majority vote] and institutions to maintain a republic.

edit on 30-7-2011 by inforeal because: typo and punctuation

Cmon man. Even Wikipedia says we are a Republic but a democratic one. My Business Management professor said it in class too. And he is a Democrat. Clearly someone is mixed up here.

Turn the tables: what if 85 extreme left-wing congress people did the same thing to the country? How would you then feel about that?

Funny thing is that the demoncrats had done that for what 50 years after FDR? Now that the Tea party is holding the feet of the PTB in DC for no more debt they are being called very vile names. I hope they peick up another 100 seats in 2012 and then maybe this country will get back on track.

You would be correct. I'm Conservative but in no way would vote Obama. I did not vote for liberal lite McCain either.
I left it blank and voted for my local races only. I no quite a few others that have done the same thing. Same with Bob Dole. Since the Repubs spend just as bad, Independent candidates are much better at working for the people than politicians trotted out by each party, with some exceptions.
