Obama announces plan to cut government waste

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama announced a new effort Monday to eliminate government waste and named his vice president to lead it. Obama signed an executive order that creates an oversight board to work with federal departments and agencies to cut waste and improve performance. Vice President Joe Biden will meet regularly with Cabinet secretaries to chart progress

Really now after multiple attempts of cutting government waste and after trillions spent and expanding government employees and agencies and the full effects of obama care have yet to see the light of day obama suddenly see the light in cutting waste.

forget about the billions going to offshore foreign aid, forget the wars in 5 countries lets trim the "fat"

by the same people who spent our taxes dollars in the stupidity as these:

$1 million to study exotc ants
$72,000 to study monkeys on coc aine
$3.4 million for turtle crossings in florida
$300,000 to study yoga and menopause.

$24 billlion tax cheats to get government contracts
$ 13 billion dead people and prisoners getting checks
$513million improper homebuyer credits
$33 million improper plugin car credits

Vice President finally gets a job.

End the wars, stop the war on drug and terrorism. Lots of waste there.

there at a catch 22, the goverment is so involved with the markets now, to cut the 1.6 trillion dollars your going to have to cut a lot of people. That in its self will send the economy into a depression. Or we can sit back and kick the can down the road and watch America fall into a hyper inflated depression.

Whatever you do its going to hurt now, or hurt more later

it all adds up when you take from someone and give to someone else you screw other people

all those things i listed could easily pay for senoir citizens and the disables cost of living raise

that cola they havent gotten for 2 years and will not be getting for the forseeable future,

but no monkeys on coc aine are more important that the ederly and disabled and dead people getting paid means more than the living people just trying to get by when the prices of goods and services have sky rocketed.

I find it funny that with one breath you're calling welfare "waste" and in the next, you're trying to convince me you give a half a crap about the condition of the elderly in this country. You realize that the programs to benefit them fall under what you are saying we need to completely throw away?

Frankly, your outrage is better spent towards the big money hogs - which I'll grant, you've already mentioned, the wars, the criminalization of drugs, and tax giveaways to the wealthiest (wealthfare, let's call it). A handfull of millions for scientific endeavors - even the ones you deride as goofy - is STILl far better than the same amount spent on bombs, I think.

Wouldn't YOU rather spend two million find out what bonobos do with prell shampoo, than buy a single bomb for the same amount?

I'm glad Obama is cutting waste. If he was truly serious about it, he would end the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and allow the Bush tax cuts to expire so we could return to Clinton-era rates when, you know, we had a surplus. Hopefully he will veto any extension of the Bush tax cuts and get our troops out by 2012. That in itself will more than solve half of the deficit problem and put this country back on a path to prosperity.

Excellent. How about they start by eliminating the subsidies for those AMTRAK trains the Vice President is so proud of taking every day?

How about we get an independant auditor in to actually watch the money. Most of this will be left pocket/right pocket accounting tricks, selling portions of one government agency to another, claiming savings, renegotiating contracts to spread payments out or move annual rates to balloon payment schemes. Until we see thousands of federal workers get pink slips, there has been no cutting that is meaningful.

You want to cut the government? Easy. Zero base each budget and make the executive officers justify every dollar in their budget. Or, how about we do what they do in the private sector. Just give the department secretary's 30% less cash and tell them go get the job done or be replaced. Guess what? They will get the job done.

Your crazy for wanting to hike taxes in this time of day. families can barely get buy food let allow afford more taxes.

I say keep the taxes where they are and create a new bracket for billionaires and millions. don’t punish the ma and pop store that are in the $250,000 bracket
