If you contribute and participate in threads you are all winners IMO.

Unlike the elite in the real world, the elite here at ATS have to earn that status.

Either way, your're still "elite"

Right?

It should be noted that the gold or silver as a simple measure of flags isn't very valuable.

I mean, get one flag a year and sooner or later you'll be blessed with a color coded status.

It's not like the Olympics or anything. Just hang on long enough and "elite" status hits you by pretty much default.

Not very awe inspiring. It's like a field day ribbon for participation. lol.

we had the "lap ribbons" in grade school. Every 10 laps you ran around the play ground you get a ribbon that said 10 laps, 20 laps, 30laps and so on. it would last all year round. Everyone in school tryed there hardest to have the highest and most rare ribbon. How dumb were we. lol

I had a look..
I think the criteria is simply who ATS choose to select..
Their choice I guess.

The "gold" border and text looks more like mud colour. (polite version)

Must be freshly dug gold.

ps....where's the "bronze" version....I want one please.

The only field day ribbon I ever got that meant anything was in 5th grade tug of war....

they had first, second, third, everyone got a ribbon..

I was much bigger then the other kid's and they got pissed off because lost the relay race because
of me..

I got them at tug of war though..

I like this new system..

I liked being just one of the people. I feel a little conspicuous with the border and header. Is there an on off option?

To me, thats the down side of starring, and maybe these borders were supposed to combat that problem somehow, but popularity doesnt make a good post. Nor does length of time on the board, or threads started, or how big someones bar is/was. or what color their border is.

Honestly, you should consider each post on its own merits or failings, and not really base your opinion in any way on the perceived status of the member. I have seen lots of very impressive, intelligent, well reasoned posts from people with absolutely no bling, not even an avatar.

I betcha TPTB (slayer and them) didn't hang on at one flag per year. These dudes contribute thoroughly, at least that's what all those thousands of posts mean. Oh and by the way, I am now calling the goldies and silvers TPTB, just because I think it's funny. I am a shmuck.

Im sure they didnt.

But they could have.

Springer called it out as untrue and cited himself as example.

Whether it's one flag a year or one flag every 20 years eventually the poster will reach "gold" and gold is gold is gold.

Unless I don't understand how one becomes "gold". Which is likely enough given I've never bothered to read what earns "gold". I've just sort of licked it off the air through reading posts here and there.

Well if you look at the top 50 it's hard to work out how they are decided..
It's not the "W" figure though that seems partially relevant but leaves a lot of posters out..
It's not "Flags" as some in the top 50 have less flags than others that are not..

I say it's just ATS deciding who they want in the list..
