Isnt the ATS motto to deny ignorance?Do you know what happens when a student isnt taught everything he needs to know including the history about his heritage and where his ancestors came from?He becomes completely ignorant to that topic, like yourself..
Why is it that when you start losing an argument you resort to bashing the person holding the opinion you do not like? You did not even address my suggestion that schools just get back to basics when I tried to take the immigrant aspect out of it. Our schools are failing our students in many ways. Part of the reason may be that they spend too much time and effort on less important topics. Thus I feel that schools need to retrench and go back to basics. Leave social education to parents, churches, and even colleges. Let's teach students how to read with real comprehension. Let's teach them basic mathematics so they can understand why adjustable interest rates are a bad idea. Let's possibly even teach critical thinking so that they can understand why leasing a car is stupid(unless you are a business owner or a traveling salesman). They can learn why mexico is great and America sucks from tv or something.

Mexican citizens should start buying guns and start fighting back when drug gangs intimadate. START FIGHTING BACK! You can win the war against the cartels.

Stop comming here and asking for handouts like Mexican Studies. Yes i consider this class a handout. You want to study Mexican history then go to a damn library or better yet, go back to Mexico and learn it in a Mexican school. The taxpayer cannot be expected to foot the bill for things like this.
ITS MEXICAN AMERICAN STUDIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That makes no sense..what do you mean getting back to basics? To teach kids the simplest subjects of their grade level so they can get by with higher grades but minimal learning?

Who the hell are you to deny a kid their education,we as americans were born with a diamond studded spoon in our *snip* mouths, with freedom and opportunity, with hope, you know what happens when an illegal child cant get an american education? He joins a cartel and then he becomes a real problem!

Mod Edit: Removed profanity.

When they pay property tax, they can get an education there. Valid argument?

As to the OP, is there an Asian ethnic studies class? American Indian? Eskimo? African maybe? Irish? German? Just curious if all races are equally represented since the Progressives have as their mantra all must be equal?

When they have received their citizenship they should be called simply "Americans". No hyphens necessary.

I'm all for ethnic studies as long as is isn't just mexican american ethnic studies. What makes mexican americans the preference?

Bravo to Arizona!!!!!

Finally somebody has balls.

I just read the entire law. The essence is they don't want classes that contribute to divisiveness that geared towards one race.

Isn't this a good idea? Or do we want white math classes and black ebonics classes?

And one more thing...

Do you really think what these students learn in the ethnic classes are going to help them while they're rolling tacos at Taco Bell? What they need is more math, ENGLISH, and science classes to better prepare them to make it when they leave school.

like i said before, this isnt a matter of citizenship or immigration or paying taxes, this is matter of depriving arizona students of education because the land of the free doesnt approve of mexican descendants learning about their culture and how they came to be.

Its up to the students and parents,if you want more diverse ethnic studies classes go to your school board and demand them, mexican american studies came to be in arizona because they were demanded..schools didnt just start one day with the course penciled in for no reason..

Why aren't those mexican students learning about their culture from their parents?

Seems that would be a much better idea.

Exactly. All these supposed "champions of liberty" are celebrating liberties being removed from us. Celebrating less liberties and more restrictions.

Why wouldn't these guys be upset? Since it has a negative impact on people of Mexican heritage, they don't feel compelled to defend this restrictive law? Hypocrites. All of them.

We have done that and that is why the ban was considered. That is the root of this problem. So if you really are sincere about ethnic studies, I suggest advocating equal opportunity and that just may save your beloved classes.
You and your people are not being oppressed in this issue. Other ethnicities are simply refusing to hold mexican americans to a higher regard than others. It is seperatism and it causes hate.

Scenario: A group of Asian students demand an "Asian Ethnic Studies" course. The school board says no. The group of Asians take their case to the ACLU, who promptly sues the school for neglecting to represent all ethnic groups equally.

Instead of getting into that expensive ($$$ and PR) mess, the school has two options: get rid of the one class that is separatist and divisive, or include all races. Personally, I'd rather see them add classes for other races, but either works. They chose to get rid of the bias. Good for them.

What demonstrable "negative impact" is there on mexican students?

They are free to learn about their heritage at home. School is not the place for social awareness studies.
