Ethnic studies of any type should be reserved for college courses. I'm half native american and I don't remember a whole lot being taught about the native culture other than the bs thanksgiving story. I never went around crying about it. I'm a texan first and american second. If I want to know about my heritage I ask either my swede family or my native family. School should be focusing on true education not who or what your distant relatives did.

And it isnt america bashing,i just go by statistics pal,and statistics show that you are either unemployed, overweight or receiving ssi income,im just as american as anyone here,i served our country,i work i donate,i volunteer,i love arizona because its so close to my family and history, also because ethnic diversity is common and welcome here,at least it was,see i had no problem with sb1070 other than i knew mexican americans like myself were going to be mistaken for illegals and harrassed constantly.i support immigration,I DONT support laws that ban education from schools.Youre insinuating that ethnic studies is somehow bringing more immigrants to the US,youre suggesting that ethnic studies is a less important use of your tax dollars than war,or obamas vacations,or the support for the millions of fatasses who wont stop eating and still receive cash and medical at our expense.

I am not unemployed, overweight or receiving ssi. I am a combat veteran. I throw benefit concerts and parties for charity. I'll save sb1070 for another debate, but I agree with you there to an extent. I support LEGAL immigration.I support laws that ban seperatist studies from schools but not education in general. I am not insinuating anything. I am being honest and straight forward on this issue and backing it up as to why I feel this way. I am not suggesting that war is a priority over education. Actually quite the opposite. Obviously my opinions insult you, but that is not my intent. I am giving my honest educated opinion and you have every right to disagree, but I will push the point home so that you see where I am coming from. I really think these tax dollars saved by the ban can go towards the improvement for every student in general instead of for the benefit of one race. That is my point, and you can try to twist it up any which way you can, but I don't believe you are fooling anyone. I looked at this topic long and hard for a long time and from many different angles to form my opinion on this. I am talking years it took me. I respect your opinion, but if something doesn't add up, I be sure to point it out. That my friend, is using myself as example of how I view american culture.

I get the sense that you feel mexican americans are entitled to a special education based on their heritage alone.
Maybe, just maybe that feeling of entitlement that you are expressing here is what causes all of these overweight, unemployed, freeloaders that you speak of.

It was not my intention to boast, or to give the impression that I am better than anyone by what I stated above. I feel like I was called out, so I wanted to add some clarity to where I'm coming from on this issue. We all have our hard times.

I'm disgusted at the fact that people starred this rotten, ignorant post.

Why do these people come to ATS in the first place? Do they not understand their own ignorance?

The europeans didn't come here illegally, as there was no law in the land.
There was no legislation, so boom.

What's Mexican culture? Tacos? Obesity? Debt? Corruption? Drug cartels? Poverty?

You really have no idea what you're talking about, if you weren't aware. Your English is also atrocious.

You come in here trying to preach tolerance, and yet you respond with idiotic hatred and ignorance like your reply above. And you expect anyone to take you seriously? Sorry, you're an ignorant, uneducated bigot.

Second line.

Yes because the only law that mattered was the corrupt white man's law, which involved signing treaties with natives that were never intended to be honored.

VicDiaz - You don't understand, nor can you comprehend how things work in the real world as you are just too young. Government TAKES from the productive and then re-distributes the stolen, OOPS, taken wealth on services. I dont have a problem with this as long as the money is spent wisely and on essencial services. Spending taxpayer money on highschool ethnic study programs is a complete waste of money. When you get to college you are free to take as many ethnic studies classes as you would like but the taxpayers just cannot be expected to cover the costs for something that is not necessary. BTW I took an ethnic studies class my first year of college back in 2001 and I can tell you first hand just how biggoted "ethnic studies" classes are. I ended up dropping the class after a month and I am a very tollerant person.

You know why almost every state and the Federal government is broke? - It's because taxation has become destructive to the point where people don't want to be productive anymore. Combine this with a segment of the population that wants everything handed to them and you end up where we are now. That segment of the population "thinks" they deserve it all just because they occupy air space!

There was no written law by European standards, but there was laws. The different tribes had spoken laws and land rights.

How could the natives sell Manhattan to the Dutch if they did not own the land by law?

Flawed logic right there.

Let's clear this issue up already. The class in question is racist by its very nature, promoting overthrow of the government, and a separatist attitude among certain students. Check these kinks for REAL information, and actual materials taught, to see the truth:

article explaining the real reason the class was canceled

large amount of materials from the class, showing the very racist teachings of the class

Now, there is NO WAY this can be defended as "education". This entire class was geared to promoting racist attitudes against non-hispanic students. This is why the class was canceled. I won't even get into the many historical inaccuracies that I spotted, in reviewing the materials posted! "Education"? Not even close.

When you can accurately quote me, then you can expect a reply. I didn't say "boom" to anything. You are mistaken in what you state, but I don't appreciate being misquoted.

I'm black, and I totally agree with this.

Also, change black history month, to Civil Rights Month.
