Much in the same way we see "patents" trotted out as 'proof' of something going on (pick your poison), even though rational educated people realize that a patent application can be approved, irrespective of the viability or even possibility of the 'invention' idea being of practical use.

In a similar vein, is it not correct to say that a Ph.D applicant's dissertation can be assessed merely on its skill at presentation....and the Doctorate awarded....but that the dissertation itself may have NO merit, no real validity?

This seems to suggest a bit of care in just whom one cites, merely because they have earned a certain papered degree....

If you read this link you will find mention of larger groups of planets in alignment not only in medieval times but since 2000, which caused people to panic and predict terrible consequences.... but here we are, all still fine. This does happen now and then and all sorts of theories and attempts to match and link these alignments with effects on Earth have resulted in only.... more predictions when the alignments happen. Nothing more, nothing less. At least so far! So.... I predict..... there will be....... more predictions, of course.

In other words, he is including any "alignment" between any two planets in the Solar system, plus a randomly chosen comet. Planetary "alignments" happen every single day. Even an astrologer can tell you that! If that scattergun strategy were not enough, he gives himself two days leeway for the "effect" to work. The paper says, in effect, that whenever anything happens on Earth (including earthquakes) there are bodies in the Solar System that are in some sort of relationship with each other. Not always the same bodies, not alway in the same relationship, but the bodies are out there, somewhere. It is a complete and total nontheory. It neither explains nor predicts anything. Even an astrologer would find it useless.

What happened was that the shifting of the tectonic plates, which was the cause of the earthquake, redistributed the mass of the Earth ever so slightly, causing the Earth to wobble ever so slightly as it spins, like a spinning ice skater moving one of her limbs. The total effect was a shift of about three centimeters (about two inches) or so. None of the other planets have the sort of plates that the Earth has, so they do not experience quakes the way we do. Even if they did, there would be no way that these distant mass shifts would have any effect on Earth.

On the other hand, there are such things as "sunquakes," caused by the complicated boiling nature of the Sun. They are not yet fully understood, and it may be possible that they are related to events called Coronal Mass Ejections, or CMEs. CMEs can send vast clouds of supercharged particles into space; if such a cloud is directed at the Earth, the magnetosphere can blunt its impact, but it still poses a danger to electronic equipment and radio transmission. They are also hazardous to astronauts. They would have little effect on us surface dwellers, other than any annoyance caused by our loss of mobile phones, etc.

NO, there is no "proof".

IN fact, the science is clear. Learn about astrophysics, gravity, and the gravitational fields of objects, and the radius of influence they can "exert".

ALL of the planets are too far, far, far away to have any affect on Earth. The only celestial body that has a profound gravitational effect is the Moon, and only because it is so close. The Sun, to a far, far lesser degree....virtually unnoticeable.

The SUN, by the way, contains about 98% of all the mass of the entire Solar System.....everything else, by comparison, is puny and wimpy...even Jupiter. And, Jupiter is so far away, it cannot ever have any effect on Earth. Ever.

Gravity diminishes by the square of the distance...it is an inverse-curve relationship, when ;plotted in graph form.

You are wasting your time and effort, in all of this.

Merely by the fact that Earth is very active, geologically.....and will have an earthquake, somewhere, every day....of some level, when you include even the most minimal of seismic activity....it is pure coincidence, then, that someone tries to equate those quakes with "alignments" of the other planets.

The planets are in the same orbits they have been for billions of years....and the arrangements of the planets have occurred billions of times, over those years, in infinite combinations.

Use your brain, and reason and science, instead of superstition and fantasy......
