The vessel containing the radioactive core of Tokyo Electric Power Co.’s Fukushima Dai- Ichi No. 3 reactor is intact after a hydrogen explosion at 11:01 a.m. local time, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano said.

The possibility of a large radiation leak is very small, even as radiation levels at the reactor are rising, Edano, the government’s main spokesman, said at a press conference. Tokyo Electric said one worker was injured and seven are missing after today’s explosion at the station 220 ..

You do realize that the reactor itself didn't explode right? You're making it sound like it did in your thread title.

JJ did not say there was no explosion, only that the reactor did not explode. There was an explosion at the reactor. There is a difference.

You know since you brought it up, the 11:11 phenomenon that was driving me nuts, sure seemed odd in retrospect, now that this catastrophe has happened .

Strange indeed. 9-11 was a manmade catastrophe, this explosion seems
to be the result of technical failure however the chances of it blowing up
at 11:19? Incredible.

hydrogen when it burns makes white 'smoke' (water vapor) I saw BLACK smoke. The USS Reagan went through a cloud of radioactivity and the US is pulling back our ships

I think "missing" means got out of there before all hell broke loose.

Shinmoe-dake Volcano eruptted Jan 29, 2011 and it just erupted again about 18-20 hours ago. You need to see these photos. Never seen anything like it

I agree. I also heard the Prime Minister saying they didn't know for sure what the situation inside was... So did they actually have anyone inside or not? If there were people in there they would have a status report.

But maybe the missing went 'up in smoke'
