It is our societies wasteful, corrupt, and greed enhancing economic policy that has allowed for these problems to occur. Are we to continue running around in circles pointing fingers at each other, or are we to see there is something larger that is causing all of our problems? That is my point. Bashing teachers, unions, parents, or board members, does us no good when they are subjects of the same flawed societal systems as we are.

Sadly too true.

One example highlighted in this and other related threads. Retiring at age 55. There was a time, late 1950s early '60s, when, because of technological advances, there was talk of future American workers having the "problem" of deciding what to do with all their leisure/recreation time. Of course, workers would be able to retire at 55!

Such early retirement and increased leisure time was, for a brief time, a symbol of all that was great about America!

Now look at us. After a 30 year financial shakedown of the working/middle class, after 30 years of increasing productivity yet being told how stupid and lazy we are, after suffering such financial, physical, emotional abuse, we are then lined up to fight each other, with the pickpockets continuing to pick our pockets behind us.

Our recent past political leaders have not served us well. We cannot rely on our political leaders for the change we want, we deserve. The African and Middle Eastern and Wisconsin protests tell us so. Pressure from outside politics must come to bear on the political leaders

The once symbol of how great a nation can be in the modern world, retire early, has been knocked down. And with it goes the rest of the nation?

Collective Bargaining Rights = Your job outsourced to China

Your job outsourced to China = slavery in China, not USA

Therefore, USA is free to develope its own niche quality industries, created by freemen.

Good riddance to the Corporations and those politicians that legislated outsourcing whom are to be kicked out for corruption and enslavement of a free People. ( but make sure they are taxed heavily if they chosed to remain american citizens or sell to americans. They owe the american free people for helping them while they grew up in US that made them strong)

so ... you think you won ???

Sorry to advise you that you didn't.

Now, those big corporations will just
move their production lines to countries
who don't have unions. Then folks
like you and others get a pink slip
saying thanks for the memories.
What good is a union
if you have no job ???
Until ALL countries are equal
in their workers salaries, it will
never be a true FREE TRADE.

America has become a 3rd world country
cuz Americans asked too much and had
unions bash it down the throats of
corporations.

But good luck with that

All of them should be fired. Why does ANYONE have the guarantee of a raise? If there is no money, where the hell is it going to come from?

TAXES!

I work for a local government. I'D LOVE A RAISE!

Our city manager does an excellent job of NOT spending money in a huge way. If business tax gets better it'll change. With the economy being crap, not likely soon.

If you have a job, be damn glad of it. 1000 people will be ready to fill in if you wish to leave it.

Lose out? That's only what the greedy corporations want you to think. At such costs and with such labour, they only produce junks or food that kills humanity in the long run if not immediate. Corner cutting are the norm

Even their own rich is not buying their homemade products, produced by overseas corporations, and are instead buying quality products from US and Europe.

With tarrifs and 'fair trade acts' instead of current 'free trade' being imposed, no one will buy junk cost it will be expensive, and the replacement costs even higher, and thus true american or soveriegn jobs will be protected, to develope and grow.

Inflation is not to be feared, for it means more can be paid to workers for wealth to share around, and with Unions checking up on Corporations, that wealth will have to be better distributed. The days of Corporations hoarding up wealth are over.

And so too are iresponsible frivolous foreign policy spendings by the gov in collusion and support of their corporate masters at the expense of social expenditure for its own citizens. Those days too are over.

For those who wish to remain slaves or asleep, they have no right to complain or voice out, for they are slaves and wished to remain one. They will not get any benefits by riding on the wave of others or badmouthing others who had sacrifice much and fought for their rights.

I just want to know one thing:

Is the following quote accurate or not?

Police have just announced to the crowds inside the occupied State Capitol of Wisconsin: ‘We have been ordered by the legislature to kick you all out at 4:00 today. But we know what’s right from wrong. We will not be kicking anyone out, in fact, we will be sleeping here with you!’

The way it's been presented, by people circulating it on Facebook, and on supposed news sites that I've never heard of before, implies that this was an announcement made by a police officer who was on duty.

I have seen a video of a police officer making similar statements to the crowd, using a bullhorn, but he was clearly off duty, and not speaking in his official capacity as a police officer.

Can anybody confirm whether or not the above quote is true, and whether the cop who allegedly spoke those words was on duty and officially speaking with any kind of authority?

I ask this because it sounds like glurge/urban legend/e-mail forwarding nonsense to me.

amazing how many people don't seem to realize how wealthy the wealthy are or how they got so wealthy or what they do with their wealth to get even more wealthy. I call it macro-deadwood. If resources were shared equally, we would all be wealthy and just work at things that were important, like child care and education.

Rand Paul said on Letterman that the average teacher in Wisconsin makes 89,000 a year if you add in the benifits. Not sure if thats true or not.

I think the problem goes alot deeper than the states can handle and lots of people are gonna be angry when the belt is tightened to fix budget problems. We live beyond our means and it has to come to an end one day and it probably won't be very smooth.

Pretty easy
They were doing fine financially, so they cut taxes for the top tier income earners
now they have a shortfall of exactly what they cut in taxes for the rich
so they want to hit the middle class to make up for their favoritism..its class warfare, hit the middle class again to please the rich.

Seems like a no brainer to me, but then again, I enjoy a certain viewpoint.

So true! Cut my pay by 10%, I'm a lot closer to the street than if the wealthy cut their income by 10%. They got a whole lotta disposable income left. Heck, they might have to sell their mansion and live on their yacht!

Fantastic post, finally some good news.

A revolution with not a single shot fired, absolutely beautiful. Now watching these videos is bringing back a plan to mind that I had for taking back our country. Wisconsin has shown it in play. The test model is now out there. I believe the time is right to implement this on a larger scale.

We already know that hundreds of thousands if not a million can be mobilized to Washington as we saw during the Healthcare protest in DC. They stopped just short of implementing the whole plan that day. They were in place, in the mall on the steps, in the streets but they didn't go in.

It's time to go in. I propose a march on Washington the likes of which have never been seen in this country or any other for that matter. Every able bodied man woman and child descend on the capitol and simply move forward, never needing to lift a hand in violence and if we do this non-violently simply moving forward before we know it we will occupy our houses of leadership up to and including the White House and we will remind them just who built these houses and who the true owners are.

And I believe, God help me if I am wrong, but I do truly believe that we like Wisconsin will have the support of the men and women in blue and dare I say our military as well. What is the alternative, that they engage an unarmed non-violent populace in the eyes of the world. They know the fires this would alight and quite frankly its not worth it. The jig is up and we "all" know it.

Everybody is always complaining about how something needs to be done, but no one has the chutzpah to act. Well I'm throwing this into the ring, and I believe it can work and I would like you to seriously consider my proposal.

Wisconsin has shown us the way. I suggest we follow there lead.

This does not require some elaborate drawn out "battle plan". The beauty of this is in its simplicity. A relatively small document drew this country together and a relatively small act could restore this country to the founders intentions.

These men 'our founders" gave everything - monetary and often lifes blood - so that you and I might have a chance to live in a free country, the price of which they paid for in blood. Don't you feel that we could honor their sacrifice with a relatively small sacrifice of our own?

just my .02

How exactly does collective bargaining = jobs being outsourced to China? I thought it was corporations who ship jobs overseas in order to make an easy profit by exploiting 3rd world country work forces who's countries don't give a flying bat about 8 hr work days or providing healthcare for their workers...or paid vacation...or medical leave...or have any sort of child labor laws, you know, stuff achievable by collective bargaining.

If I joined a union and paid union dues, I would expect the union to help pay my retirement and health care! Why pay dues?? Where does that money go?

In this mess the "elitists" have gotten the world economy in ... we all have to give a little to help each other, that includes the unions and their followers!! Get over yourself!!

Just what ball do you think is rolling here? When the Tunisian protests started, I found a lonely little article saying that trade unions were a huge part of the protest. And you know, the police joined the people in the protest. Now we have our Unions here in the US protesting. Well, who are they protesting against? A Republican governor. Isn't that just handy dandy ! The media has reported that MoveOn.org and various socialist organizations have joined the protests. It is totally Democrat organized. Democrat is the de facto Socialist Party operating in the US today.
So, I'm guessing the ball you think is rolling is Socialist anarchy to take down a Republican governor and any others who would oppose the Socialist agenda.
Handy Dandy

Wonder if it is possible that they are using the police as tools to diffuse the situation from within.
Sort of a different approach as opposed to fueling the fire.
We will see.
