Update : Iran has asked Egypt for passage for TOMORROW MORNING.

All the words from people working in the canal, they will very likely let them go through.

So before 2AM Saturday EST time, 9AM Cairo time, we should be settled.

It might be seen as provocative by some, but I think it'll amount to nothing more than the transit of 2 ships through the Suez.. Interesting developments tho.. thanks for the update

When the usa shows its might against countries, other then poor countries, with no real technology, and is dirt poor..then we will have this discussion, your lost in the world, and i honestly feel sorry for u.

So, who are you referring to here? The North Koreans? They are dirt poor. China? They have a large economy now, in terms of total output...but are still third world in terms of per capita income. Their technology, for the most part, is based on whatever last-generation stuff they could steal or con.

I guess when there is a nation on this Earth that would stand a chance against the U.S. then we can have this discussion, you are right. You are also right that I am lost in my world...the real world.

Hope fully in your next life, god don’t have u born to some Pakistani Mother, then maybe you’ll understand, just be grateful on the day you was born, and how u was born.

What would be wrong with being born to a Pakistani mother? I am sure there are many fine people, and fine families, and fantastic mothers in Pakistan. What is your point?

And as far as 'Spankings loll
The USa would never ever have the galls to play with the 3rd largest army in the world, you all couldn’t even handle Iraq,’ laughing out loud'

Fact check...at the time of the first Gulf War, Iraq had the 5th largest army in the world. The USA took them apart in under a month.

www.cdi.org...

Fact check...right now North Korea's military is ranked Number 20 in the world. So, it would take the USA...what...about a week to decimate them if it so chose?

www.globalfirepower.com...

The simple fact of the matter is that, depending on exactly how much force America was prepared to use to subdue an enemy...politically...it could easily destroy any nation on Earth...militarily...in a matter of hours, days or weeks.

In recent conflicts, America has used the minimum force necessary to overcome an adversary...so as to avoid as many civilian casualties as possible.

You BETTER stick with the small unarmed forces in the world to show your ill dominance and evil blood thirsty ways , but to play with north Korea, it will never happen, they will do what they want to at will, with no repercussions.

They have an antiquated military...no economic strength...no real capability to project their military on more than a very local basis (including their very limited nuke arsenal). Sorry, but there would be very real repercussions for the North Koreans. The simple fact is that South Korea could deal with them all on its own, with only logistical support needed from the USA.

You the funniest human I have met in over a hundred years.

I am happy to be able to bring some joy into your life...and may you live for a hundred years more!

So another update from the Egyptian government.

Egypt's military studying Iran warship request

Egypt's military is studying an Iranian request to send two naval warships through the Suez Canal and had been told the vessels did not carry military equipment, nuclear or chemical contents, an army statement said on Friday.

"The request said the ships do not carry any military equipment, nuclear or chemical contents. The Defense Ministry is currently studying the request," it said. The source said the ships were in regional waters in the Red Sea and said a decision on whether to approve passage could be made Friday or Saturday

It doesn't carry military equipment ? Then...what about an inspection?

I don't think you need a master's degree to figure out their is going to be some kinda conflict in the Middle east possibly as soon as this spring. Is this going to be the spring board to spark the conflict? I dunno, I think all we can really do is just watch the events unfold. Considering all the unrest in the middle east right now, it makes decisions made out of fear starting wars etc. etc. more prominent. I don't see anything good coming out of the current events in the middle east at the moment. I have a funny feeling Israel, is going to be on the receiving end of some crazy attempt from some of these governments over their grasping to stay in power. You know something chaotic occurring. These protesters are not just going to stop after a few days of unrest it appears. So what do you think these governments are going to do? Maybe start killing their own people, well then that will create an outcry to the west, their are allot of possibilities to create war going on in the middle east right now.. Of course vitchilo, you know me always analytical and most time seeing things without the extension of superb diplomacy. Either case the current events in the middle east are something we should all pay close attention to.

Breaking: Egypt Approves Passage Of Iranian Warships Through Suez Canal

No confirmation from other sources yet. But it's very likely it's true since Egypt is forced to let through ships according to the 1888 treaty.

Of course I am not surprised..

Now we wait and see what happens next. I am betting the convey gets to Syria, without any confrontation. Oh and crude prices go up some more.
Why I have absolutely no idea, but ya crude oil will go up because an iranian convoy goes through the suez canal.
next time I pump some gas in my car I will think of how stupid our world is, when I am paying extra $ for gas over a couple of ships thousands of miles away.

That was because of the Israeli government screaming about doing something about it. And that would mean a war...with Iran... meaning the Strait of Hormutz in danger... meaning less oil, meaning higher prices.

More danger = higher oil prices = happier Iran.

Nice job Avidgor Lieberman, you and your warmongering just cost the US and Europe at least 150 million $/day more because of oil going up! Now I presume this will be deducted from the annual foreign aid to Israel? No? Damn!

UPDATE : New info... Israel will let them go through to Syria... and won't do a thing. Seems to me the Israeli government is divided on how to deal with this... nice play Iran.

During times of war the Egyptians allow no one through

That's not true in the slightest. The treaty governing the use of the canal stipulates that all vessels, regardless of flag or type, are to allowed paasge. I think you may be referring to the last Egyptian-Israeli war where the Canal became the front line of the war, in which case only a pleb would sail his super tanker through the canal and it was closed due to the fighting.

The US military has no jurisdiction over a vessel transiting the Suez Canal, and neither will the Iranians allow the US to inspect their sovereign naval vessels. If the vessels are subjected to search then it will be by the Egyptian authorities.

Closing the canal to ALL shipping is not the same as deciding who to let through..

what should the israel governement do, a tactical strike on the ships and the iranians can use this as a reason to attack israel. the iranians are just trying to start something again

Although they have every right it is still obviously up to the Egyptians. No doubt the pressure is on the Egyptians by the US to deny the Iranians transit? The Egyptian military relies heavily on US money as part of the peace treaties. Their funding is second only to Israel and they love all that US equipment. It certainly is a tough decision for the Egyptians.

C'mon..Israel has nuclear armed subs stationed off the Iranian coast..
Exactly why is Iran the one "starting" something with 2 pathetic little ships going in international waters??

Iranian diplomats have offered assurances that the two ships wouldn't have weapons or nuclear or chemical material, MENA stated.

So what are these ships that are going to supposedly take part in exercises with Syria? - Are they still gun boats, or gun ships... Because the exercises suggests military vessels, and those things require an awful lot of stripping down to separate the vessel from all the weapons and military equipment! lol - I suppose smaller fast attack type gun boats are relatively easy to disarm, but a larger ship? And whats the point of taking a navel gun ship out for exercises with no guns! Oh yhea, poking Israel in the eye, I'm all for that.

But is that really true? It made a great headline when it appeared, but how accurate was that story? The Israeli Dolphin Class subs are predominately stationed in the Med. No submarine can transit the Suez without Egyptian permission. In order to sustain an Israeli nuclear armed submarine deterrent off the Iranian coast then the Israelis would have to drastically change their operational sub basing to the Red Sea ports.

If the Israeli subs were nuclear powered then it would be a viable option, but they are small diesel electrics. In order to maintain a credible nuclear patrol they would have to have a large replenishment support for refuels etc. It certainly makes a great headline, but the story really has to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Anyone going nuts over this is basically acting like Avidgor Lieberman, the nuttiest right wing extremist politician in Israel. It would be like siding with a mix of Rumsfeld + Cheney + Bolton, the worse of it all. Avidgor is as extreme as that. So think before siding with nutjobs like that.

Don't you worry, once the Iranian ships get out of the Suez Canal tomorrow afternoon, the Israeli navy and airforce will shadow them very closely.

A small ``frigate`` from the 70s ain't any threat to Israel.

Israel's new warplans since that announces means that Israel always have a sub in the waters in the area of Iran to be able to strike any point in Iran with cruise missiles.

UPDATE: Convoy to begin their crossing of the canal at 6AM local, meaning 11PM EST.

Should take about 7-8 hours to cross it... then about 20 hours+ to reach the port of Tartus in Syria.

Israel will likely send ships and helicopters to breath heavy on their neck... and last thing I had from Syria is that they might send ships to escort the Iranian ships to Syria... We'll see.

The Alvand is near worthless. It has very little ASW or Anti-Air capability. The real concern, at least of the informed, is the Kharg's potential cargo and the precedent set.

Its not so much that Israel is confused on what to do. It's more that Lieberman like George W Bush talks without thinking while the rest of his country doesn't necessarily agree with him. That is one of the first things I pointed out. This was not the words of the Israeli Prime Minister or even Defense Minister. These were the words of Lieberman and no one else. He is an idiot and I'm frankly surprised he is still in office.

I just saw you said basically the same thing later down the line
