We are told there are two paths. We are told that we choose our own destiny. We are told that we should prepare for our future by everyone around us.

Prepare for transition.

Prepare for our saviors return.

Prepare yourself for a nice paying job.

Prepare yourself for disclosure.

Prepare yourself for a terrorist attack.

Prepare yourself for a natural disaster.

Prepare yourself for your future or you will be left behind, right? Two paths...Two choices...But there are no differences. No matter which path I choose my life will be me constantly preparing for something that isn't even certain of happening. So I'm 20 years old, standing in front of these two paths as people are rushing by me and are "preparing" for their life. There is no easier path to choose. They both will give you the same emotions and troubles..and you do the same exact thing. Prepare.

No matter how you think, no matter how different you are, no matter if you were/are like me...stuck looking at these two paths, that have no differences...you have to choose.
But I suppose it isn't much of a choice.

So....What happens if I decide to not prepare?......

P.S. I have no idea what topic to post this in. My bad, My bad.

Seems like the path you've decided to take is the one to not take a path... to me that is one of the two. The other path is to prepare and take action, in this path, will you find your izzypeace... i mean... inner peace

Nice thread

I like to think of it as making my own path.
We do live in a communal society and in order to avoid anarchy and chaos we have created social rules that (kinda) work for the collective, that said, my path isn't a well laid cobblestone road, i like to trek through less worn routes. I see it all as a gift, and try to get the best out wherever I end up. Im here to learn, and just be. Im also quite happy to say I have no idea where i will be in 5 years, anyone who plans that far out is trying to trick themselves to see over the horizon

Interesting thoughts iz.

But isn't it possible for one to take action by doing nothing?

After all, if it is as some say, destiny is destiny and we will get there no matter what path we chose.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one worried about where I'll be in the next 5 years. I know you need money to do things, but man....what if what I want to do today is not what I want to do tomorrow? So why should I pay all this money to prepare myself for a job that I don't even know if I'll like it.

It's like... no matter what path I choose, I will have financial troubles, I'll face the same obstacles, even if I do choose a path... my life will be just a routine I feel like.

Having that sort of verbalisation and mental thinking actually creates the 'no finances' and 'face obstacles'. Changing the mindset and the way you talk/think can do wonders, it re-connects previous neuron pathways of when you were a child of the ability to own the world and have anything you want. Izzy... have you seen "the secret". Well thats 1 law, but not the first. There are 10 other laws and 22 sublaws. Once you understand the basics of this, you will be unstoppable, and the ONE path you take, will be the only path you will ever need to take because there are so many options for you to choose from, you won't know what to do with yourself.

Joseph Campbell, when asked by Bill Moyers what all this religion and mythology (he was a renowned professor of comparative religion and mythology) was for and what he'd learned from a lifelong study of it all, had this to say:

"Follow your bliss. Find your beam, whatever it is, and once you find it, don't let anyone else knock you from your course."

The trick I think is to figure out how to make a living off your hobby or passion while being most helpful to others, if you can do that then you're all set!

I like how you think.

But it is my understanding is that your choices are what ultimately decides your destiny. If you believe you have control of your own destiny.

Thank you, that gave me something to think about. It just seems like everyone makes life so black and white. My family is about careers, so that is on my mind... what am i going to do with my life? What will my 9 to 5 week days be like?

I mean, does it matter, it seems everyone hates their job...and no matter what their job there is always finacial troubles.

It's like...If no matter what I do career wise, religion wise... it really doesn't matter, does it?.... I suppose this conversation is going in a different direction.

But either way, no matter what stage in life... you are preparing for the next step.

In a nutshell, yes. In many ways you are the one that ultimately shapes up your destiny. Make every decision count. If everything goes well, always expect the worse. If you don't, then you have learned nothing.

Also, I know people that are following Campbell's quote, i.e. sticking to their path. While it may be hard to do that and their lives at times, harsh, in the end it's all worth it.

And here is another quote:

We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us.

My biggest fear is that my path will lead me no where...if I stick to a path I accomplish nothing, learn nothing, just become like a lot of the people around me who lose their own priorities.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

I remove my oars from the waters of this world and go where the current takes me. I no longer fear my lack of control. The whipping winds and whitewater turmoils have lost their power over me. Racing, free, I rediscover my innocence and reclaim my life.

The current is my destiny. The current has brought me to this place, at this time, and has delivered me all that feels and looks like salvation.

Convention be damned. Deafened to judgment, I choose this.

Seemed to fit.

Yes it fit with how i feel...To just live and go with the flow.

I want to just live, do what I want at that time, I don't want to worry about my future...But it seems like the people around me and the majority of the world their lives are set to worry about the future.
But our future really isn't guaranteed.

Yet we are pressured to worry about the future. By ourselves or other's i'm not sure.

No matter what path we chose, we lose something, the only difference being in their value.
No matter what path we chose, we lose the ability to learn something, learning nothing during the process.
No matter what path we chose, we will be led nowhere, there being no doubt about that, from no matter what point of view you look at it.

And in the end, we all give the best of ourselves and try to live our lives to their fullest. Some people don't realize that, though, striving for something out of their reach. But, you may never know until you try.

Izzy, it goes along the lines of what you're passionate about, because its what makes you 'you'. When you find what makes you 'you', you will be able to monetize that. For example, i see you working as an events manager, you have a knack for communication and you're quite learned for your age. I see you wearing promo shirts and organising events and getting a known band organised to play at your park/hall/field. For some reason, music, as well as socialising, mix together with you. I may be off the path, but the way you present yourself speaks volumes, and you present well.

Find that niche, and go for it..... then meditate

You are an artistic/creative type, and enjoy making things I'll bet..? I once heard of a couple who make 100K+/year selling necklaces and bracelets and the like during the summer months at a touristy location, and then spend the winter down south.
If I were a young person I would be thinking about how to take a hobby and turn it into a business successful enough to make a living, and be happy. Then I'd take the calendar and burn it in the fire and smash a watch as a symbolic killing of time. I would save my money and never work for "the man" or go 9-5 "career", it's just not natural, not liberating or free.

My path is to follow my excitement, which at the moment is the passion of the wanderer. I'm in a preperation stage. Not gonna tell where I got it from but an event will be happening within this year. My passion will carry me from there...
