40 Percent Of All U.S. Doctors Plan To Bail Out Of The Profession Over The Next Three Years

Obamacare sure is working great, isn't it? According to an absolutely stunning new poll, 40 percent of all U.S. doctors plan to bail out of the profession over the next three years. Yes, you read the correctly. 4 out of every 10 doctors in America say that they are getting out in the next three years.

America is already facing a shortage of doctors. Specialists are getting harder to come by due to the high cost of malpractice insurance related to all the frivolous lawsuits and resulting laws which have rendered doctors nearly powerless.

Prepare for things to possibly get even worse courtesy of the new health care bill as doctors may be further ham-strung with even more regulations concerning type,level and cost of care they are allowed to provide.

I wouldn't be surprised if many people in the U.S. health care industry started pulling up stakes and setting up shop in other countries. After all, more Americans are fleeing the country with each passing year. Hundreds give up their passports and hunker down in other countries and they will be needing and wanting more of the special Expatriate hospitals and clinics to get their medical attention from.

Here's another interesting point: Starting this year,the first round of Boomers will begin retiring in waves over the next ten years. This will create an even heavier burden on the already gutted,over-priced and underperforming health care system. With this in mind,this crisis could explode into something that has neither been seen nor planned for yet.

If you've got a Plan B,now might be a good time to get on with it. Also,if you haven't done it yet,you might want to start learning how to perform emergency field medicine. Can't hurt.

Fact is, Obamacare never addressed the high cost of medical care in the first place... just the redistributing of income to pay for the too high cost of medical care.

When one talks of Obamacare and medical care cost in the same sentence, they are comparing apples to oranges.

Welcome to socialism. Prices will rise as the number of providers decline. This just proves that stupid liberals don't think about the consequences of their actions.

I always find it humorous that in such discussions no one thinks that perhaps the malpractice insurance companies are gouging their customers. It's basically become the American way for corporations to rip off their customers and blame it on something else now days.

I have no doubt that the law suits have increased, but the whole health industry is basically in a huge feeding frenzy to make as much profit as possible without concern to the future of the industry and it's effect on everyone else.

Yes,indeed. That is one the points I mentioned above. I think that's probably the major contributing factor which,as I basically stated, is why specialists are becoming so hard to find. Malpractice insurance for heart surgeons and the like is astronomical. Doctors may also be tossing in the towel for ethical reasons or perhaps their own closeness to the industry has alerted them to the fact that they're days ahead professionally and financailly are looking grim in the 'new economy'. Regardless,it's a scary trend emerging.

The recent Healthcare Reform law is not the problem and to try and cite that means you should see a doctor. Regulation keeps people safe and healthy and makes damn sure that a product will do what it is being advertised to do.

To the brain dead who feels that it's ok for an insurance provider to deny you coverage when you are sick is sick in the head mentally.

To the brain dead who feels it's ok that your insurance provider can drop you for whatever reason it wanted (prior to this law they didn't even need a legitimate reason) have mental issues.

Since that law was passed millions of kids are still alive and many more have insurance.

When does the size of one's bank account dictate if they got coverage? Medical care is the inaliable right of every citizen.

Socialism means the people come first and not the corporations, Socialism makes sure that cache of pills you take in the morning is safe and won't kill you, Socialism keeps your local FD, PD, EMS made constantly available to you.

Next time your house burns do not dare call your local socialistic fire department to put it out, next time there is an intruder in your home do not dare call your local socialistic police department. Next time your elderly parent falls and gets injured do not dare call the paramedics, let them lie on the floor and die! Next time your kid needs paramedics let them get sick and die. Socialism provides for hospitals, police departments, fire departments. Next time there is a downed power line don't call the power company to come in and fix it, next time your street gets dumped with a meter of snow do not call your local Dept Of Public Works to have it removed, don't put your garbage out on the curb because Social programs enables someone in a truck to come by to pick it up.

To those that can't stand the fact that this nation is now taking care of it's own and not covering Wall St everytime they get a bug up their tail seriously needs to relinquish their American citizenship as you clearly do not deserve it.

The real "Death Panels" as Palin was harking on is some moron on the phone 1,000 miles away staring at a cpu screen determining who qualifies for what coverage and gave more power to the people to take charge over their healthcare.

Just some speculation. . . .

Docs may leave their "practice" they may leave their hospital, but they will continue to practice medicine. Look for a new black-market in medical services and back to "getting treated, then just paying for it" in the docs house.

Wrong rising princes and market principle actually point strongly to free market economics. No wonder the country is going to hell in a handcart if ordinary people fall overthemselves to make a political point for their right wing agenda! Do wake up.

I have no intention of returning to the USA as healthcare may well be stretched in future due to market forces and not the myth of Socialist America.

Roger that,tiger5. I don't plan on returning anytime soon (if ever) either if I continue to have any say-so in the matter. The house is burning and there's nothing worth ducking back inside for.

8 Nightmare scenarios that I am most positive that quite a few people here are facing on a daily basis (If this mirrors anyone's life here my back and support is with you 24/7/365) :

1. A 28 yr old female with one kid who just ended her shift at her job while walking to her car parked a block away steps off the curb to cross the street and out of nowhere a drunk driver speeding plows into her, she suffers 6 broken ribs, a broken leg, a dislocated shoulder, her injuries decree her unfit to work. BTW, she's in a coma for 5 years and the chance of her survival is dim. She recovers and is a quadrapalegic and can never work again.

2. A 44 yr old mother of 4 aged 3 - 15 in perfect health, holding a Master's degree is at home one evening and her husband who after work decided to go to the bar and get rip roaring drunk comes home and beats her senseless collapsing a lung, annhialiting her liver putting her in the hospital for 6 months. Her injuries require her to have constant care. She graduated at the top of her class and had an iq of better then 150 and now that is dropped to barely 65.

3. A 78 yr old retired male is at home one evening who suffers from cancer and requires constant care takes a nasty fall at home and is hospitalized for 2 months.

4. A 4 month old male child who was born 3 months early who wieghs no less then 5 lbs. This child who is it discovered has a rare genetic disorder whereas if they get cut they won't stop bleeding.

5. A 32 yr old widowed male with 1 kid and no family is at work and falls off a scaffold 6 floors up breaking both his legs and both his arms and is discovered he suffered an aneurysm before he fell, he can no longer care for his kid and can never work again.

6. A 15 yr old male kid is at school one afternoon while in the lunchroom takes a nasty spill on a wet floor after being pushed by the school bully and is taken to the hospital with a fractuered wrist, a slipped disc in his spinal column and a bad neck injury who will require a wheelchair and constant care the rest of their life.

7. A 19 yr old female with no responsibilities decides after work to go to a club to unwind and get drunk. While dancing a 22 yr old male starts chatting her up and they leave and go back to his place. While there she is beaten, bound, tied up and gagged and is knocked unconscious and is dumped in an abaondoned alleyway. The next morning about 7a a passerby discovers her and to their shock is still alive but barely. She is hospitalized for 4 months while she recovers, there is no id or wallet found near her making an id impossible. She leaves the hospital in a wheelchair and is a quadrapalegic and can never work again.

8. Two friends (age 8 and 9) are hanging out one day and decide to take a dip during the late Spring at a local watering hole. The 8 yr old jumps first everything is fine, when the 9 yr old jumps in he slips and hits his head on a rock below and is rushed to the hospital where they discover that he has lukemia and is out of school for the remainder of the year and is now wheelchair bound due to his injuries sustained in the fall. He requires constant care the rest of his life.

One thing to remember during this hypothetical scenario is no person has any type of insurance. Prior to the Healthcare law every single person would not qualify for insurance because the company decided to decree everything a "pre existing condition" and denying these people insurance because they couldn't afford it. How are these people supposed to take care of themselves and their families?

The U.S. Constitution provides that all of us have an equal oppourtunity at life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It says nothing about providing an equal "outcome", just the oppourtunity.
I can imagine that you could provide 100 more stories.
But this isn't utopia, this isn't a socialist experiment, this isn't a place where all the stories have happy endings.

Sometimes life does suck. Sometimes good things happen to bad people. But to alter an entire industry to make sure everyone has an "adequate" ending, is just beyond belief.

The Constitution guarantees that no person shall be made to go without. Hence the phrase "To form a more perfect union" as written in the Preamble makes this possible. These people depicted in my story are barely scraping by and to have a debilitaiting illness means that every citizen has the right to adequate healthcare.

Its not all that surprising. Docs and nurses work in thankless jobs with lets face it often demanding, unrealistic patients and adminstrators. The pay is not all that high for MD's given thier level of responsability.

Medical liability reform should have been passed before Obamacare period. THis aspect alone would save 100's of millions.

A 25 minute transport requires me to fill out almost 20 sheets of paper taking about 2 hours. This has to stop. I spent 4 times the amount of time with my paperwork than I do actually caring for my patient.

Anything I mention about the Constitution is not an interpitatation but is fact. I do not interpet as many have interpeted it and always come to different conclusions as they automatically read it with a political bias. The ture way to read the doc is first and foremost, Forget about the "Left-v-Right" paradigm as once you read it with a political bias makes the reader automatically biased. The correct way to read the doc is from the viewpoint of a centre centrist.

The recent law that was passed was to streamline the process by attempting to establish a national medical database whereas all you needed was the name, dob, social and addy and all the person's medical files would've been immediately available at the touch of a button but some brain dead idiots saw this as an intrusion upon personal freedoms and got this portion axed hence why you must do 2 hours of paperwork per paitent.

As a favour can we let this "Obamacare" phrase die once and for all please?

Gotcha.

What if you could no longer work? What would your family do? There is no fine for not getting coverage so that is a lie perpitrated by the likes of Palin and Bachman. The punsihment you will endure is to have guaranteed healthcare coverage and if you think that people do not deserve healthcare means unequivocally that those not for healthcare for all require mental help and are derrainged.

This is an expansion of SCHIP from 2006 whereas requiring that every person under 18 have coverage.

That is rubbish. Corporations always exploit a monopoly position in any socialist state. State run corporations are the least efficient means of organization of the collective capital of the people. My local FD,PD, and EMS are all paid for by property taxes and use fees. That is land owners pay for it because they are the ones that benefit most from the services. Those who do not own property use these services as a free ride if they are to poor or pay a small fee if they are not.

Socialism does not make your pills any safer then the threat of law suits if they are found defective by the plaintiff's discovery. Legal recourse is paid for by the court systems users. Court cost are levied on the loser of the legal argument. That is what keeps your pills safe not socialism.
