I think it is absolute insanity that the First Lady or anyone else would suggest that we feed our kids healthy food. If they want aspartame and HFCS, that is their right and no one is going to suggest it not be exercised damnit. In fact, I think maybe just to spite her some folks should outright poison their kids. That'll show Michelle!

The only reason why the US is the most obese country on earth is because the FDA (food full of isht dept of america) is allowing high fructose corn syrup in all your boxed, canned, and frozen food. Glucose and artifical growth hormones in milk called rBST, which allows cows to produce 15% more milk than usual. If wal-mart is doing one thing right it's not putting out rbst milk. This is what makes us fat. Eat natural foods from the ground and hormone free meats and see how much weight you lose in 2 weeks. It's amazing.

It reminds me of when various (corporate owned) politicians came out against Michelle for planting a organic garden because she was not using massive pesticides, genetic modification seeds, etc...

Meh, some people have simply gone retarded.

Good point. You might almost think there is an agenda afoot on the right to trick people into defending GMO, bigfood, and big pharma. I am sure Palin supporters are too smart for that though.

Better be careful. Seems you may have suggested that people eat natural food. Apparently in America that is not really welcome. Take your helpful suggestions, that would benefit everyone if followed, elsewhere!

..and zuu1000.....

Please, will you two take it off-line? I've never seen such bickering - it's bound to get the thread shut down if you don't stop! It's tedious and boring.

Better yet, I think you two should get a post ban for 72 hours or so.

Can you provide one example of a politician 'coming out' against Obama because she was not using massive pesticides, genetic modification seeds, etc...?

I must have missed the press releases on that.

Because, we're the most obese country on Earth. Go to any Walmart and you'll find someone riding around on an electric cart full of junk food. It's pathetic. You are what you eat and people need to be educated on what is good for them and what is bad. Although, no one should be told they have to eat healthy. If someone wanted to shoot heroin into their eyeballs they should be allowed to do so. But being an idiot and doing so doesn't mean you are exempt from being educated on the dangers of doing so.

The point the OP is trying to make is that it's imbecilic for Sarah Palin to argue that Michelle Obama is wrong to educate kids on healthy eating. It's not like she's secretly flooding the country with junk food, making a profit covertly, and then putting the people who eat the junk food in jail.

Replace junk food with drugs and you have the Reagan administration.

How the heck are you going to sit there and compare junk food to drugs? When i eat junk food other people aren't at risk of death but when someone uses drugs everyone is at risk.

That makes no sense to me at all. Can you explain how someone using drugs puts "everyone" at risk?
Serious question here because I cannot find one drug that poses a risk to anyone but the user.

That is a pretty weak diversion. Killing people puts people at risk. Doing drugs does not. People also kill people for sneakers and coats. Are you saying sneakers and coats also put everyone at risk or can you give it a real try?

Again, what drug can a person use that puts "everyone" at risk?

Pretty relevant if you want to pretend the "War on Drugs" was and is a noble effort while deriding the suggestion you stop feeding your kids crap.
How about in 30 years we see how much money was wasted, lives were spent, and people imprisoned over Michelle's suggestion and compare that to the current "success" of that noble cause?

If you are going to interject such a radical claim, backing it up seems the least you could do. Thanks.

Interesting thought.. Question though, and maybe several people might have answers for this.

Why is it not acceptable for Republicans to "interfere" in peoples lives? When Bush was in office all we heard for 8 years from anyside but the right is Bush Administration is interfering in our lives. Get the Government out of our lives. The Government has no business doing this or doing that.

Now that the tables are turned, and questions come up that are along the same lines as what the Dems did, its not so much an issue for debate, but a response that justifies why the Dem Government is doing what its doing.

I think any promotion of a healthy ligfestyle is good.... however..... it should come back to personal responsibility. When the government takes a role like Palin suggested, as well as many democrats when bush was in office, and that role goes way beyond just the "hey this is bad for you, think before you eat", it poses a very real problem.

I think as a country we have become to dependant on the Federal Government, and the Federal Government has become to dependant on playing the role of a nanny instead of running the nation. If someone wants to eat bigmacs 4 times a day and dies of heart disease, that is his choice. It becomes problematic when the guy is so large he cant work, and goes on supplamental income for a problem that for most, not all, but most part is avoidable by exersizing common sense and will power.

It becomes problematic when the Government mandates health care, or continues to allow insurance company monopolies, or ships money overseas while ignoring the problems here at home.

I think we have larger things to worry about as a nation than what Michelle Obama is doing. I think we have larger things to worry about as a nation than what Sarah Palin is doing.

Just my 2 cents.

Yeah I was just thinking how completely and utterly the same Michelle suggesting you eat healthy and "The Patriot Act" are. It is like they are carbon copies of the same policy but in different handwriting.

Warrantless search and siezure = suggesting I have a salad now and then.

Totally with you there!

lol. Politics.

You mean the position she abandoned before her term was up?

Yeah. That's who I want for my president. Someone who will leave when things get tough.

The truth of the matter is the government does teach us. The government has been in charge of the public schools for almost 100 years. That's the main problem with conservatives, they always leave out important facts that conflict with their version of reality.

Oh and if you don't think they use it for propaganda purposes just think about the pledge of allegiance. They make you pledge allegiance to a flag. Then there's this website that I created that exposes another peice of propaganda used. thegreatbartersystemlie.wordpress.com...

Laura Bush did a big movement on literacy in America
I supported that fully. I don't remember offhand anyone complaining that the government was trying to force people to learn how to read...it seemed simply logical and a good cause for the country.

This has little to do with a point overall...its just a fringe being lunatics for the purpose of being lunatics. either they are so blinded by rage that a black woman is first lady, or that the socialist nazi party is in power (lol), that they have abandoned any and all reason.

As far as the bush administration "interfering with our lives". There is a big difference between encouraging literacy (or in this case, healthy eating) verses enforcing draconian measures in the name of safety.

Its traditional for the first lady to take up softball causes and encourage us as individuals to do something better...be it literacy, health, or even Nancy Reagens just say no campaign (which unfortunately morphed into some giant war on drugs that continues to cost mass amounts of money today...the reagens weren't fans of small movements and token gestures I guess).

This thread is amazingly revealing. It leads one to wonder why people who are so in favor of government control, even to the level of dictating what we eat, would have any interest in a site like ATS? The last place on earth you would expect to find those who are FOR government control.

Or, is it that some let Partisanship and hatred of anyone who does not agree with their politics override their common sense. Hate is a powerful emotion and that hate has been carefully grown inside you and nurtured by your political party to tear us apart from inside, so they can have complete control of us. That I think is the truth here.

It's amazing the levels people will sink to out of the Bigotry of Partisan Politics. Even to the level of hating people they don't know, or willingly allowing those in power to control them; to let them tell you what to think, what to eat and how to act towards your fellow citizens. So brainwashed you no longer even realize how controlled you are and how they guide your thoughts and actions.

This is not about Palin. This is about Partisanship and HATE carefully cultured by the people in power who quite frankly could give a crap less about any of you. Your just a vote to them on an election day and a bother the rest of the time. They don't care if you get fat and die, or if your children are illiterate. It's all a ruse to buy your vote. It's a carefully orchestrated plan to keep you at each others throats and hating each other for their own sick reasons.

Fat IS the new Black for instance. Hate between fit people and those who are overweight is being carefully groomed to be used as a tool of control. They know most people are so shallow and narrow minded they can be controlled just that easily. For most of history they have used skin color or culture to divide us. Now they are turning to things like political party or how fit you are. It will work if this thread is any indication of how effective their mind control is. Many of you are attached directly to the strings they pull.

To many of you we are no longer fellow human beings. We are now Right or Left, Fat or Fit, Rich or Poor and it is incumbent upon you to HATE anyone not in your category and why? So the real bad guys can go merrily along their way using us and controlling us while we are busy hating each other.

Wake up folks. Your falling for the oldest tricks in the book.

Correct me if I am wrong but "State government" is still government, right?
Just curious if my school taught me to read well or not.
