In a press conference/rally in Pittsburgh, PA at approximately 9am EST on 7/6/04, Senator Kerry officially announced Edwards as his running mate and,
if elected President, his VP.
John Edwards, a former Presidential candidate himself, is the Democratic Senator for North Carolina. He withdrew from the Presidential race on March
3rd, 2004.
The two will run on the Democratic ticket in the 2004 Presidential election.
Bloomberg
After the announcement, a large banner was unveiled reading "KERRY-EDWARDS For a Stronger Future." Supporters behind him waved Kerry-Edwards signs,
and the signs were shown being passed to the large crowd gathered.
Kerry formally offered the spot to Edwards early this morning. Sen. Edwards and his family will meet with Kerry in Pittsburgh tonight, and the two
will hold a press conference Wednesday.
Kerry took a jab at President Bush by saying that he and Edwards would never "send our young troops in harm's way ... without telling the American
people the truth. We will not allow our soldiers to be held hostage to foreign oil." He implied less reliance on Middle East oil under his watch;
he was not clear on if this meant alternative energy sources or domestic oil.
He promised education reform, healthcare reform and more jobs.
The rally wrapped up with the song "Johnny B. Goode" played over the loudspeakers.
Edwards campainged on the platforms of increased military compensation & benefits, strengthening the public school system, adoption rights for gay
couples, national security without sacrificing freedoms, pro-death penalty, and fighting cyberterrorism, among others.

CNN confirming Edwards as VP now though Kerry isn't scheduled to announce it until 9am and his website is still teasing for sign ups to get the scoop
first.
But didn't we all know this last week when the Unions backed Edwards for VP? The Unions tell the Skull & Bones what to do.
I guess no one told the NY Post though:

O.K. So....What does this imply for the Democratic Ticket?
Brings in the Historic Southern Democrat, but does he reverse the trend of Southern Dems defecting to the Republican Party?
Edwards appeals to Women. So it has been said. Sounds shallow.
What do you folks have to say?

Even though Edwards reminds me of Damien from The Omen, he is (so far) much more tolerable than Cheney...
Let's hope this team is the lesser of the evils to take office.

Can't wait to see Edwards debate Cheney! As a recent trial lawyer, and a darned good one(oxymoron?), Edwards will chew him up.
This should energize the Dems. They'll need it.

Can you believe the Bush spin on this?
Senator Edwards delivers his pessimism with a southern drawl and a smile, but his message of a divided America rings hollow in the ears of an
optimistic America that is united in meeting the tests of our times with strength and hope.
Yes, George...Edwards is a big fat pessimist.

By the way, why did you replace all pictures of Cheney on your website with McCain just now?

Just what we need, another fewking lawyer in office. Doesn't surprise me though. The Democratic Party seems to be quite comforable with lawyers, no
matter how badly lawyers have corrupted the legal system (once known as the justice system).

The NYP really screwed the Pooch on this one...all in an effort to scoop the other newspapers.
Anyway, the Edwards announcement will give the Dems a big boost in the polls. The next big boost will be at the convention.
Then the Republicans will hold their convention and the polls will even out once again.
Kerry and Edwards do have one thing in common - neither man is very popular in his home state.
Earlier this year, Kerry remarked that that the job was not a place for "on-the-job-training", referring to Edwards. Edwards must have taken a crash
course or two.
One good thing about Edwards joining Kerry - now the Kerry ticket has some personality in it. Kerry is about as interesting as watching paint dry.

At least an oil baron knows how to run a business and made his money doing that rather than having the courts take money from someone who made it and
give it to him.
Dude, say what you will. He's a trial lawyer. Know what that means? It means he is trained to put aside his morals and his knowledge of right and
wrong at a moments notice as those things only get in the way of winning the case. As screwed up as our legal system is, do you really want someone
trained and proficient in that arena to be making decisions that affect your life?

Yes, as John has proven time and again in his highly selective and ethical case selections. His cases were about families and ONLY sought JUSTICE from
corrupt corporations that traditionally hide behind Republican coat tails. So YES, YES, YES....I chose Davie over Goliath anyday.
He's even proposed taking on lawyers with unprecedented reforms like DISBARRING laywers proven to bring frivolous lawsuits. For all intensive
purposes, if you hate corrupt trial lawyers...then John should be your hero for setting a shining example of what a GOOD trail lawyer should be.
If you can excuse how Cheney and Bush made their money, then I seriously don't see how you could have any ethical dilema with Edwards.

Hmmm.
Better to have someone trained and proficient in any area rather than a couple of chimps running the show.
