but i wonder why Italy is not mentioned ???

thanks

Your referring to jfc, and jfc is a nerve area along with other southern eu bases. You shouldn't really go down that path, as it has been known to be a touch and go topic.

Thing is, this isn't new. Its not news at all. Those weapons have been in Europe for decades.

Its not a "revelation" - unless I guess people in the 'states aren't aware of the information - anyone clued up in Europe is aware of it already.

As a poster above mentioned, I do wonder why Italy isn't mentioned. Their planes, like many other European nations, are equipped to carry US nuclear weapons, and there were at least two storage depots in that country as well.

This is - by the way - arguably a breach of the NPT.

Honestly this news has been known for quite some time. Really nothing new here.

It is estimated that there are about 2,500 weapons designated as ‘tactical’, of which Russia possesses over 2,000. The United States has fewer than 500, and deploys around 200 of these on the territory of five European countries in accordance with agreements between the United States and its NATO allies.

Not shocking or surprising.

The Russians have tactical nukes along the border of these countries, why is this a surprise to anyone?

And Israel have nothing to worry about with Turkey, those tac nukes are under the direct control of US troops stationed in those countries and cannot be fired without authorization.

I had no idea, I am a tad surprised. What I find especially shocking is the clear thinking minds on ATS who always demand references are willing to allow the media to present this headline without including the leaked cable.

Has anyone been able to locate this particular document on the Wikileaks or Guardian sites ????????????

after your post i spent some time on the Guardian site looking for the source.
however all i could find on the Guardian site was from Apr of this year:
www.guardian.co.uk...

there is nothing on the Guardian site regarding the cable leaks and nukes in Europe.

However , as per the OP`s first post ....there is mention of it here:
www.express.co.uk...

Well, these are NATO countries. I despise nuclear weapons as much as the next person but it certainly doesnt suprise me that the US would station them in allied countries.

I suspect members of WL had known this, but in the spirit of truth they have released the information in the lime light -- more people will now be aware of it in the U.S.

I for one had no clue, but its not like I had done any research. I just know nukes are bad.

But, like neformore has mentioned, this is apparently a direct breach of the international NPT.

That is illegal.

But its the U.S. - so its OK, right?

Lies all Lies the wiki leaks are all a CIA front

Well now that we got that out of the way.
Wheres the news in this?

I think the only people who are really shocked or amazed are the ones just waking up to the realities of the 20th and 21st century, either that or the ones who refused to pay attention while watching their favorite TV shows.

I have not seen anyone discussing the fact that this could be a case of Obama's administration finding a way to leak the information themselves to destroy what little freedoms we have left. I mean, really, how does a man that is ranked a private in the military obtain these sort of top-secret documents. Soldiers don't even have top secret security clearance until they are a staff sergeant or above. Sounds to me like this whole thing is just a little too convenient. What better way to create a "Post-American World" than to find a way to give the world our most private military strategic secrets... This is all a bit too coincidental in my book.

"We must always reserve the right to strike unilaterally at terrorists wherever they may exist. But we should know that our success in doing so is enhanced by engaging our allies so that we receive the crucial diplomatic, military, intelligence, and financial support that can lighten our load and add legitimacy to our actions. This means talking to our friends and, at times, even our enemies."
BARACK OBAMA, speech, Nov. 20, 2006

hmmm... These leaks certainly doing a lot of "talking" Our diplomatic relations have been hindered. The legitimacy of our actions are going to be questioned...
Are our allies going to give us the diplomatic, military, intelligence, and financial support we need? We have now been shot in the foot, with no real way to dig ourselves out.
Is this the "Change" Obama promised us so emphatically?
Having the locations of where we have placed our nuclear weapons leaked is just the icing on the cake...

Hi Guys, im from the UK and this wikileaks is all over the TV and radio 24/7, i may be going slightly off topic but does anyone else think wikileaks is a cover-up for something bigger thats going on behind the scenes?
we all know that there are nukes all over the world somewhere but i think its just another excuse to have a war. i hope im wrong but to me its all just pointing that way.

There are absolutely no top secret files in the 250,000 cables... as far as anyone is aware of.

I think the highest classification is secret/no foreign among many secret, no foreign, confidential, unclassified.

Wow, is anyone surprised we have nukes in Europe. This has been a well known and semi-publicized topic. The official answer is we will neither confirm nor deny. Do a google search for NSI inspections, they are not classified. Nuclear Surety Inspections...grow up peeps...these nukes have done more to keep us safe than harm.
