At first I though this was a joke, but no, its real.

The Japan Times reports:

Japan Post Services Co. said it will stop accepting airmail packages bound for the United States weighing 453 grams (1 pound) or more starting Wednesday because airlines will stop such delivery at the request of U.S. aviation authorities as part of antiterrorism measures.

The postal services arm of Japan Post Holdings Co. handles 16 million letters and packages by air and sea to the U.S. annually, and “15 percent of that will be affected,” a Japan Post spokesman said. That means about 200,000 packages a month will be affected.

Mike Rogers writes for Lew Rockwell that he couldn’t send a package to his son’s friend from overseas without knowing the girl’s socialist security number:

Now, unbeknownst to most Americans, I’m sure, people outside of the USA can no longer mail you packages if that package weighs more than 1 pound (453 grams). That’s the total weight including packaging. One pound is not very heavy.

My seven-year-old son just received a beautiful electronic building set for his birthday from a girl who is his seven-year-old friend in Arizona. My son loves it. With that set, you can build all sorts of electrical projects; lights, on-off switches, fans, you-name-it. The set is high quality. That, and the book she sent him, was easily over one pound.

Too bad he is unable to repay the favor.

Government, keeping us safe from terrorists by imprisoning us in a prison without cages.

Of course, it goes without saying that the real reason behind the ban is to stop people from evading tariffs and excise taxes.

That's the real reason.

Government is angry that some people aren't paying their share of protection money to their mafia over-lords.

Terrorism is simply an excuse, as it is in all things the government does in the name of "our safety", to ram vile regulations down the publik's throat.

I am in negotiation for a box from England with an estimated weight of at least 2 1/2 lbs. and will it affect me?

edit:

It looks like it only effects airmail packages and it looks like its done on a completely ad hoc basis. So everything over 1 lbs must go through sea shipping and be subject to port customs.

www.theatlantic.com...

Apparently the conditions for shipping packages via air to the United States have now become so restrictive that the Japanese Post Office has announced that, effective Nov. 17, it will no longer accept any packages weighing over a pound for shipment to the US by any method that involves air transport (including EMS, airmail, and SAL). Except for large corporate mailers, everything over a pound must apparently now come by sea.

So corporate customers will not be effected, just the little people.

I can find articles on Japan specifically, but a lot of articles mention this is also being applied to other countries as well.

Since when does government get to dictate what the average person can send through the mail service? I bet a million bucks that government did not stop corporations from shipping boxes to each other over 1 pound. More corporate/government dealings and an attack to limit the individual.

Correct.

Corporate customers are unaffected by this.

I think everyone needs to register their persons as a corporation at this point. It seems to be the only way to allow the individual freedom, without restriction.

Oh dear. I've just sent Christmas parcels to my brothers families in the US. They are active duty, pay is dismal, and I thought I'd surprise their kids with some goodies...I do hope they don't get screwed out of them.

Shameful.

What more will we take before we break? I don't know..I'm losing faith in people.

If they take the package at the office, you should be good to go.

From what I can gather, it looks like they would reject you at the office if they were going to deny you from sending.

It's also completely random by country. Some countries have this ban in place and some do not.

My first thought was that now that S.510 has been passed they're going to limit the food supply and stop anyone from getting food from abroad.

They might as well just ban everything, put us all into chemically induced comas and empty out our bank accounts...

That seems to be where this is going anyways.

They may have just cut me off from two different suppliers I use. More rarely thankfully, but for a handful of parts I can't seem to find in American distributors.

This is no indication or definitive confrimation that this nation is currently or has ever been a facist or socialist so to try and interject that is incorrect. This nation firmly believes and staunchly endorses the belief that you are to take care of your own without prejudice to skin colour, age, ethnicicty, religion, sexual orientation.
