Japan Post Services Co. said it will stop accepting airmail packages bound for the United States weighing 453 grams (1 pound) or more starting Wednesday because airlines will stop such delivery at the request of U.S. aviation authorities as part of antiterrorism measures.
The postal services arm of Japan Post Holdings Co. handles 16 million letters and packages by air and sea to the U.S. annually, and “15 percent of that will be affected,” a Japan Post spokesman said. That means about 200,000 packages a month will be affected.
Now, unbeknownst to most Americans, I’m sure, people outside of the USA can no longer mail you packages if that package weighs more than 1 pound (453 grams). That’s the total weight including packaging. One pound is not very heavy.
My seven-year-old son just received a beautiful electronic building set for his birthday from a girl who is his seven-year-old friend in Arizona. My son loves it. With that set, you can build all sorts of electrical projects; lights, on-off switches, fans, you-name-it. The set is high quality. That, and the book she sent him, was easily over one pound.
Too bad he is unable to repay the favor.

I am in negotiation for a box from England with an estimated weight of at least 2 1/2 lbs. and will it affect me?
Apparently the conditions for shipping packages via air to the United States have now become so restrictive that the Japanese Post Office has announced that, effective Nov. 17, it will no longer accept any packages weighing over a pound for shipment to the US by any method that involves air transport (including EMS, airmail, and SAL). Except for large corporate mailers, everything over a pound must apparently now come by sea.

Since when does government get to dictate what the average person can send through the mail service? I bet a million bucks that government did not stop corporations from shipping boxes to each other over 1 pound. More corporate/government dealings and an attack to limit the individual.

Oh dear. I've just sent Christmas parcels to my brothers families in the US. They are active duty, pay is dismal, and I thought I'd surprise their kids with some goodies...I do hope they don't get screwed out of them.
Shameful.
What more will we take before we break? I don't know..I'm losing faith in people.
