.....and the US is the one people complain about human right's abuses.

Young rappers arrested in Iran

(CNN) -- Police in Tehran have arrested several members of underground Iranian rap groups, the semi-offical ILNA news agency reported. Tehran Police Chief Hussain Sajedinia told ILNA that several young boys and girls were discovered using vacant homes to record and videotape illegal rap music for various websites and satellite networks.

Huh,, rap music is illegal in Iran... wonder why...

Police raided the homes, arrested the young musicians and confiscated "western style musical instruments" and several bottles of liquor, according to ILNA.

Ahhhh.. Western style musical instruments.. I guess they could of settled for banging a stick against a metal pot, but they were going for the cleaner sound instruments make.. I can see how the instruments are a detriment to Iran... Is this the only reason, Western style music? Lets see...

"These groups use the most trashy, juvenile and street-like words and phrases that have no place in proper grammar," the police chief told ILNA. "More importantly, they have no regard for the law, principles, proper behavior and language."

trashy.. juvenile... street like words.. no place in proper grammar? Yet its ok to use words like stoning, European whore (as they described the wife of the French President, jihad, infidel etc... intresting priorities.. what else might be a problem for those in Iran??

"A court order has been issued for the arrest of all of the accused and police in Tehran will make their utmost effort to arrest these people," Sajedinia told ILNA. In Iran, rap and rock music is not a serious crime but is considered un-Islamic. Ignoring the laws against playing rap and rock music can lead to accusations of Satan worship and sentences of flogging or a night in jail.

Oh ok.. rap music is "un-Islamic".. can be construed as satanic worship...wow...

"Those who have been arrested are among those who have veered away from proper behavior, who have distanced themselves from all of life's hardships and are in search of comforts that have no limits," he said.

Rap music, and not the stoning of women, the lack of respect for rights in Iran, the lack of freedom of expression, speech, religion, life, liberty and the pursuit of their own happiness, the dismembering of hands when people are caught stealing food, which under Islam you are not suppose to lop of a hand if the theft is for food.

Yup.. not the great satan, not Israel, but the true enemy of Islam to these people is rap music.

The next time someone wants to bitch about the US human rights record, there had better be an accompanying bitch about Iran as well.

Rappers should be arrested everywhere, maybe some of the underground stuff is OK (I don't listen to it so I don't know) but the mainstream stuff is materialistic filth on the whole that degrades women, glorifies drugs, encourages violence and lacks musical quality. I'm also fed up with seeing kids from well off families talking and acting like they're in the ghetto because they think it's cool. And what is it with this thing where someone 'raps' over the top of older, decent music? Ridiculous.

Cool video actually.. Albeit he signed his own death warrant with the lyrics and the X going over the Ayatollah. I highly doubt this would make it into Iran's report to the UN for their own human rights submission.

Its only a matter of time before their government falls. The funny thing is they don't need any help from American or Britain, as the current Iranian regime is doing it to themselves.

Non of which has anything to do with the music they listen to. It has to do with their parents being engaged in their childrens lives and teaching them what music is as opposed to them imitating art.

Personal responsibility is the issue. Saying rap music is causing these issues has as much logic as saying guns are the reason there are so many gun crimes committed each year.

A gun does not kill anyone, the person pulling the trigger does, after a conscious choice to do it.

Same holds for music.

Well what are we waiting for? Lets bomb them into the ground!!!

It's not clear if the young Iranian rappers are still in jail or what they're being charged with.

Until we know the above I'll reserve my judgement for a later date. It is entirely possible they just got a slap on the wrist, as might any young teenagers engaging in underage drinking, and illegally occupying a vacant property, in the mighty West.

If they don't go down the road of the satanic worship, which could end their lives, then they are subject to fine, jail time, or lashes. Of course that's all contingent upon what type of details / confessions are beaten out of these kids.

Like I said I will be waiting for the actual verdict, I am not in the basis of making future predictions based on hear say. CNN is speculating on the outcome with an anti-Iran spin to it. Also I'm not sure what news you have been reading as I haven't heard much talk of Americas human rights violations especially not on the likes of CNN. It's mainly Iran that is discussed on these terms.

To quote the OP;

Is that the instruments people use in Iran? 'Eastern' style instruments... Straight up are you just a bigot?

Where is oozyim to defend Iran?

Arrested for being rappers, man Lil Wayne couldn't even buy this kind of rep if he tried.

All joking aside, I feel bad for them no telling what kind of sick and twisted punishment is in store for them.

To be young...

Bigot.. no not at all..

Sarcastic with a mouth full of wise ass.. absolutely.

The insanity alone for Iranian authorities to make it a conscious effort to point out the instruments are "western style" is what I was making fun of. Why the f**k does it matter where the instrument is from, unless you are going to turn this into another propaganda related rant about the Great Satin's impact on Iranian culture, blaming them for societal decay there while ignoring the fact their own Government does it to themselves.

Bigot.. lol that's kind of funny.

They were using vacant homes to record their music? Sounds like trespassing and breaking and entering is just as illegal there as it is here in the states. Even though the house is vacant it still belongs to someone.

that kind of suppression will only lead to the regimes own downfall.

have a buddy who came from iran strictly because he couldnt stand the fact your practically not allowed to talk to girls in the street. Of course there were other suppressing factors as well. The younger generations are not going to put up with the bs the older extreme religiosos are enforcing on them much longer. No doubt revolution is in the works.

by the way Jews helped him get to America. Though that was pretty cool.

and, btw..what a beautiful country it is.

They were not arrested for trespassing. They were arrested for the rap music.

"Huh,, rap music is illegal in Iran... wonder why... "

Too bad it isn't outlawed in North America also. No person with any decency would miss that filthy cRAP.

"Rappers should be arrested everywhere"

And be sent to Iran and lashed.
Nobody would miss them.

"I'm also fed up with seeing kids from well off families talking and acting like they're in the ghetto because they think it's cool."

That's what happens when you delegate the responsibility of raising your kids to the despicable scumbags who control the media.

"Its only a matter of time before their government falls."

Any particular reason why you are so anxious for the Iranian Government to fall? You plan on moving their anytime soon and starting a rap band? Maybe you should clean up the disgusting mess in your own backyard instead of worrying about the garbage in other people's.

"Personal responsibility is the issue. Saying rap music is causing these issues has as much logic as saying guns are the reason there are so many gun crimes committed each year."

Yeah sure, keep believing that rap music has not contributed to the deterioration of a selfish insensitive society which has become morally corrupt. Thanks to the OP and the rap loving network CNN for yet another important story which is vital to the survival of Western Culture.

Absolutely first clast post!! I take my hat off to the OP!!

You really spent a lot of time and thought on this and I'd like to thank you for allowing people to think about the issues illustrated here.

When young people in this world are forced to live in a society that stifles freedom of expression, belief and artistic outlets then it is a very sad state of affairs. You are quite right to point out how idiotic this is from a society that does not even allow women the right to basic social freedom and equality, that allows the practice of hands being chopped off and stoning, and yet would arrest young people for daring to express their artistic nature.

The whole of this site - ATS - should be reading and commenting on this post. There's a lot of issues of importance in this world, of course, but I think perhaps this says more about where we are now in this world than anything else.

Well done OP!!

So you would attest that A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul have no musical or artistic credibility? And do you like Blondie? I suppose you would say that Rapture was crass and commercialised, lacking any creative integrity whatsoever?

About glorifying drugs. I suppose you had a mental block about Grandmaster Flash's White Lines? One of the greatest rap songs ever? Perhaps THE most well known song in modern popular music that denounces drug use more than any other.

You seem very closed minded in your arguments when it comes to this genre of music and I find that quite sad. If you don't like something, fine but at least back up your arguments with something besides just negativity.

And by the way, what does cool actually mean anyway? In my opinion it's meaningless.
