this i why my people left scotland i reckon.
what happened to braveheart?

[edit on 22-8-2010 by p51mustang]

There's nothing brave about stabbing people. Romantic ideals are easy to adopt when your thousands of miles away from the reality of a country - look at America and the romance of democracy for Iraq.

If you think Scotland was ever Braveheart, you are best off where you are.

I'm absolutely sure you are right ,if you have been turned out to be so spineless and cower in fear of common thugs. i will fondle my shot gun, sharpen my blade and sorts like you can scurry around hoping no one chooses to molest you. pathetic.
so- think i am a hillbilly redneck as much as you want, but I worked 20 years
tending seriously mentally ill, four years on the locked ward. ive worked with probation and parole monitoring level 3 sex offenders. i live in downtown phoenix arizona amigo-across from a city park/ play ground- two kids were beaten to death by a psycho with a baseball bat in a city park last week. things coming into focus
yet? i have stepped into to defend the weak and vulnerable my entire life, i worked in a hospice for children because i have heart- and i am brave- and thats no romantic notion, my grandfather came over to save your bacon and stabbed germans. my great grandfather fought against slavery in the civil war...so from the bottom of my heart- run hide little girl, before the big bad wolf gets you..

And so are you Marxist drone.

I'd say you are a perfect choice for the future peoples of Britain who wish for the delusions of socialism. Every corner with a cop, civil enforcer officer or a similar stooge ready to pounce on a citizen etc.

I say to those now who are stuck in Britain and want out to start on your plans to leave the country.
It's finished and going down the tubes fast.
It's not going to get any better and there's a lot better places than the UK.
If you want to know how the best ways are U2 me and I'll tell you what I know.

i generally mind my own affairs, but i wont abide anyone being abused.
including me. the park across the street is full of families and happy children,
and thats the way it will stay. there are no chavs around. i keep the peace. i am exactly where i supposed to be in this world-surrounded by loved ones who i would protect with
my life- from the basest evil that certainly preys on the world.
that it has not visited you is your good fortune i suppose.
i fear no evil- my rod and my staff comfort me.
or machete and tomahawk- i hang with the indians from arizona to panama.

No of course mate, I know people from council estates who are some of the nicest folk you could ever wish to meet. Obviously they aren't all the same however in my experience the majority of these so called "chav's" come from under-priveleged housing environments although this isn't definately a hard and fast rule.

Etymology
I thought CHAV stood for council house (i.e. trailer park), ASBO (anti-social behavior order) and violent.
However, Wikipedia provides other origins:
"Chav probably has its origins in the Romani word "chavi", meaning "child"[3] (or "chavo", meaning "boy",[4] or "chavvy", meaning "youth"[5]). This theory is supported by etymologist Michael Quinion.[6] This word may have entered the English language through the Geordie dialect word charva, meaning a rough child.[7] This is similar to the colloquial Spanish word chaval, meaning "kid" or "guy".[4][8]

The derivative Chavette has been used to describe his female counterpart.

The Oxford University Press has said that the word is "generally thought to come from Chatham girls",[4] and Michael Quinion says that that is "where the term is best known and probably originated".[6]

Many folk etymologies have sprung up around the word. These include the backronym "Council Housed And Violent",[1] and the suggestion that pupils at Cheltenham Ladies' College and Cheltenham College used the word to describe the young men of the town ("Cheltenham Average").[9] However, Michael Quinion has said that "we must treat supposed acronymic origins with the greatest suspicion; these examples are definitely recent after-the-event inventions as attempts to explain the word, though very widely known and believed."[6]

In the 1990s and early 2000s, prior to the increased interest in chav culture, the people we today know as a 'chavs' were referred to with a large variety of dialect words, recorded by research done in 2002.[10] By 2005, media references to 'chavs' had spread the word throughout Britain. "
en.wikipedia.org...

I believe Chavs became more frequent after the 1980`s when the possibilty of social class migration became more difficult possibly related to the abolition of grammar schools ( the poor`s equivalent of public schools) and lack of employment opportunities.

Nobody is saying to murder them. If I were in that situation (I'm a petite woman) you better believe I would hope to have something on me to defend myself. What would you do? You mean to tell me if 20+ kids surrounded you and beat the crap out of you, you wouldn't defend yourself? Don't get me wrong, I would give them a whole pack of smokes before I let it get to that point, but I would definitely defend myself if they started attacking.

No offence but you would get absolutely hammered. I respect and praise you for the fact that you would be willing to stick up for yourself but against twenty "kids" your going to lose. Period.

Starred your post, fair enough. Great attitude and I'm not patronising you when I say that, I truly mean it.

Just that there's been a certain member commenting on this thread who believes he can successfully fight back and win against 30 opponents.

I wasn't having a personal dig at you so if I caused any offence I apologise.

If you can't win then at least take as many of the scumbags down with you.

Believe me, some of these "kids" are 15 year old 6 foot 6 13 stone nutters who wouldn't think twice about smashing a bottle over your head. Sad that it's come to this but it's true...

I didn't take offense. no worries. you are absolutely right. you can't win when your outnumbered...unless you are superman. I hope I will never be in a situation like that. But you gotta fight back against scumbags like that.

It has visited me. Thanks for assuming it hadn't - it's obviously not scarred or scared me.

If you had paid attention to my posts, I was raised on one of the nastiest estates in Scotland. I never carried a knife. I chose not to.

I have been attacked by yobs/chavs, etc. A neighbour decided that he wanted to rape me by pulling me down a side street - people walked past. Noone stopped to help. I was 15.

I got out of it myself.

I still do not need to carry a knife. They're for hiding behind.

If your gun or your knife makes you comfortable..that's your call. I still stand by my opinion that it makes you as bad as what you pretend to be fighting.

No one here who has stated the fact that taking on 20+ opponents is suicide has said they would allow themselves to be beaten. If they attack then yeah take out as many as you can before they kick you to death, but running off if possible is the best strategy.

The saddest part, at least for someone who has a sense of honour is that these kids will gang up on someone, 20 to 1 and think they're hard. Or they'll stick a knife in an unarmed pensioner and think it makes them tough when in truth it makes them utterly weak.

One on one, they are pathetic and i guess that's why they need a pack of friends with them.

In England no one is aloud to defend themselves in the face of adversity and are more than likely to be the ones charged.

Sorry but that is totally incorrect, the law states that you are allowed to use such force, as is reasonable, in self defence . To quote the actual law "A person may use such force as is reasonable in the circumstances in the prevention of crime, or in effecting or assisting in the lawful arrest of offenders or suspected offenders or of persons unlawfully at large." Also there is no rule of law that a person attacked is bound to run away if he can, it is even enshrined in UK law that pre-emptive strikes are allowed as Lord Griffith said in Beckford v R [1988] AC 130: "A man about to be attacked does not have to wait for his assailant to strike the first blow or fire the first shot; circumstances may justify a pre-emptive strike."
