This is all part of an upcoming Disclosure agreement between ATS and the Fleet of the Enterprise. They're going to disclose and figured some PR would be good. The TV-Series was a smokescreen behind which a real space-exploration program took place.

And what they found will shatter our conception of everything we knew. And it will all be live on ATS.

I think the mods are starting a coup de tat. They are using the Trek banner as a way to indicate who is "in on it" and will be able to identify themselves from amidst the loyalists. If they worked fast enough, I feal skeptic and springer have already been captured.
