Actually, Texas won without the US. Ten years after, TX officials decided to join the US, to the anger of most Texans . . .

Umm. That was part of Texas that won independence. That was not Imperialistic. That was trying to protect the borders.

The treaty that Santa Anna signed designated the Rio Grande as the Texas/Mexico border.

Therefore, Texas did in fact have a legitimate claim to the territory.

No one had a legitimate claim considering they were all third parties.. the 4th people, Natives, technically still lived there, three separate entities divided the land .. since the person I was speaking to stated Mexico had a legitimate claim to the land, I say neither of the third parties had any more significant claim over the other.

I know speaking about Texas to a Texan gets the Texan all ruffled. Easy killer.

Mexico owned the land. Santa Anna gave it to Texas.

Therefore, Texas owned the land.

Just because there were Native Americans on it does not mean that they owned it. I park my car at a space in the grocery store parking lot. That does not make me the store owner.

And damn right. I love my state.

Given back or "granted" independence.... many kicked your butts out.

Sorry, to good to pass up.

Regardless, this land belongs to [insert whatever people from old here] doesn't really stand as a successful argument since most European Imperial powers "owned" most of the world at one time and had simply steadily lost their empires as time went on. All land was "owned or inhabited" by someone else at one time or another.

There is only place where a "war" was fought which facilitate us getting our "butts" kicked out, and that was the USA (but that is debatable)

The rest, in the main although always peacfully, were granted, or given back to other countries, the last being Hong Kong, which I remember very well.

That for most was the final point of all of it. but most, not all, remained part of the commonwealth.

anyway the point is that sooner or later the ends always catch up, and people do not forget and cannot just move past it. They get accustomed, but never forget.

Yeah Arizona is going nowhere. And neither now, nor ever has Mexico or Mexicans had any more right to the land than the folks that are there now. And it is its own republic by law and not the federal government's to "give away" either. I was raised in Arizona and it is my home as well as those who have and do live there and no one elses. As for Atzlan or droves of illegals/drug dealers I say bring it, you ain't taking our home w/o a fight!

Edit for S&G.

You do realise that is was only about 160 years ago that Arizona was part of Mexico, along with California, Texas and New Mexico - you guys invaded it and stole it, remember, you thought it was your god given duty to rule the north american continent...?

Don't get too caught up in Foxpublican propaganda.

You guys?? Who stole it?? Who invaded it?? You act as if the people
who are alive today had something to do with any of this past history.
My family came here from Ireland at the turn of the 20th century, and
they did it legally by the way. They didn't sleaze their way across the
border in the dark of night. You guys stole it? What a clown you are.

I agree with the posters that pointed out that Arizona and other states were part of Mexico, this isnt a realty/resident argument this is people now acting like sovereign citizens, do we eliminate that right?

Where does it say where we stand is what we own? I say give them the right to show what they own and if it pans out, well then, the outcome is the outcome. I dont claim rights to a people, or the original owners, I dont have that right, do they? do you?

It says right here on my map what you own and where you should be living.
It says nothing about Open Boarders or Sanctuary States or Cities.

A way to fix this problem would be..

Illegal immigrants want a better life. Instead of spending millions to build a fence, spend those millions to make life better in Mexico so that they won’t feel the need to run here.

If poor Mexicans want a better life all they have to do is do what millions of other Mexicans do. Put their kids through school for a better future.

But it's a lot easier to walk right into the US and make all those dollares! Si Señor.

Simple, no jobs no illegals.
