Great speech this evening Obama, and thanks for revealing your agenda.

On the road earlier I happened to listen to the entire 'Oval Office Gulf' speech, live. Either Obama and his entire crew are a bunch of bluddering morons, or he just proved there is an agenda that has almost nothing to do with helping the environment.

The speech: www.whitehouse.gov...
Yadda fix well, yadda alternative energy... get off oil. Alternative energy doesn't actually get us off crude oil as we'll see.

I will say that other than what I'm about to get into, it was well written and well said. His speech writer propagandists are first class, and he has true talent at reading the teleprompter.

Now for the point: One could argue that all of the other products we get from oil are the byproducts from going after the fuel, while another could argue it's the other way around.

Just finding a replacement for gasoline, natural gas etc doesn't do too much to stop our NEED for oil. Oil is used to make virtually every consumer product in the modern world. From carpet, to roads. Paints to adhesives. Epoxies, that are even used to connect road sections of bridges. Plastics, vinyls, tubing, shoes clothes, nylon, polyester (poly-anything actually), teflon. Electronics, TV's, computers, etc.

The list goes on and on and on. You can't even make a score of "green" products without it, or at least it's currently used to make them. LED lights, those curly power compact bulbs Al Gore wants us all to buy, the jugs we buy Simple Green in, air filters, water filters, hand crank flashlights & radios, "Smart" cars, biofuel processors, wire & cable insulation used to hook up wind turbines, caulk used to seal cracks to increase energy efficiency, and so on.

How can he talk about us needing to break our addiction to oil and not mention a peep about this issue?

If he really cared about the environment, and the nation for that matter, he'd be grandstanding on a cross country speaking tour, which he's really good at, trying to convince everyone to stop buying garbage products from China. Virtually everything made in China is literally garbage, and literally all of it is destined for the landfill, sooner than later. YOu can buy used 30 years old USA products from a thrift store that would outlast the China junk you find at Walmart.

He should be telling people to buy long lasting Made in the USA products. With Chinese garbage they even have to use fuel to ship it across the globe. Some of the Chinese mega-tankers are the worst sources of pollution in the world.

Even if he didn't decide to go for China's jugular, for etc reasons, he could still be grandstanding about how USA products are environmentally smart. Even if you have to pay more initially, it will last longer and pay off.

Less garbage at the land fill, less 'need' for more oil extracts, less fuel getting it to your door, and so on.

Nice try, Mr. 'president of the world'.

This man doesn't care about you or the environment, and his speech is proof of that.

This being the case, it's time people take a moment to think of what the real agenda is here.

How about Using Hemp Oil in place of Petroleum for making everything that uses Oil?

Totally different. There are tons of great uses for hemp products, but no matter what you can't replace all that crude oil gives us. This was explored in this thread pretty well:
www.abovetopsecret.com...

Hemp WOULD help a lot of things, but like biofuels the world would starve in order to replace it all even if it could totally replace crude, which it can't.

That's not to say hemp shouldn't be the #1 short term goal for environmentalists and conservationists. It should.

But still, crude offers so many exclusive exotic compounds and, it's extremely efficient to get to those compounds.

And you can't build roads with hemp either. Like, if we were to make ALL roads with concrete, which isn't even ideal, there wouldn't be enough concrete to build houses with. It would be an economic disaster.

PS: You might remove that entire quote and paste in the "reply to" code. The mods won't like it.

it so you have to buy a new one.

With slave labor camps built into mega factory complexes, not really.

Like I said, you can find used 30 year old USA products that in still in higher durability, quality and life expectancy than a high percentage of the new stuff at Walmart.

That disturbs me. Quality goes down as technology advances exponentially? That's akin to suicide. It is backwardsness of the Nth degree. If you're going backwards, well you get the idea.

www.whitehouse.gov...

This is not some distant vision for America. The transition away from fossil fuels is going to take some time, but over the last year and a half, we’ve already taken unprecedented action to jumpstart the clean energy industry.

"Fossil fuels"? That isn't all crude oil even is. And what does coal have to do with the Gulf Gusher?

This is all you ever hear those whom pay lip service to environmentalist motifs. Has anyone thought about this? This seems sinister to me. Either they're completely out of touch with reality, or there's an agenda. I haven't yet thought of a potential third dichotomy.

Sure, they'll say "Don't pollute...recycle", but hate oil, that nasty fossil fuel that gets spilled.

If it's time to talk about oil then its fuel time. Recycle that bottle that was probably made in the US, or feel guilty. Don't feel guilty about buying crap foreign products. But do feel guilty every time you get behind the wheel, especially if it was made in the USA.

Even with Japanese electronics you were buying high quality durable products. Today we're buying them more and more from China.

Why would they make something to last 30 years???
They want you to buy new every year of so.
Everything is made to be disposable.

The Corporations did this to us and now the Gov wants to tax us to stop it?

I'm not sure what you mean about taxing us?

If anything we get taxed more as the environment gets more screwed up from all of the waste.

I'm not saying we should be taxed in any of this context. I argue that taxes is what's plundered everyone from being able to afford quality products that last.

Old Jimmy Carter has to be jumping for joy.
Obama is the WORST president in history.

What we see now with Obama is that in the past he has consistently referred to manageable problems as "crises" and enacted his radical legislation as solutions to the "crisis".

Now, Obama has an actual, genuine crisis to deal with that his rhetoric and legislation can't remedy. He's floundering under the pressure since he has no actual experience beyond being a "community organizer".

Yeah I heard L Rushbaugh say that on the radio today.

Except he forgot that Bush had already stolen this title. At this rate, the next president could surpass them both in less than 6 months, and as it turns out pretty much every indicator has us pointed to total economic Mad Max, and martial law by around that time... ...an accident?

man = cancer

not when we have the ability to reason.. there is no excuse for the lives we live. cancer does it's job, it does not hate the ones that die from it.. it doesn't pick it's victims.. we are the ones, yet we CAN reason, we can make choices.

man = advanced to a state of ignorance. de-evolution.

that would be more accurate.

---

nice thread IIB. You know the S&F words right?

taking this long to respond.. pointing the finger.. words of kicking some ass.."eat the seafood, it's great".. blow off on a windy day Obama..

this remind me of the last idiot that held the same office, thumb up the ass.. go swallow a golf ball.. go harpoon a whale.. just get the hell out of the way of those of us that do care.

/end

out.
