This is another in a series of strong to very strong earthquakes in this area. No tsunami threat currently and Hawaii isn't said to be in danger. Still breaking....

There have been at least 3 in the last 30 minutes. A 5.8 an 6.4 at about the same time, then a 7.4 10 minutes later just slightly north of the other 2.

I think it's been downgraded to a 7.0. Any Tsunami alerts?

If Hawaii was in danger from this, then we are all in serious trouble. It was just north of Australia.

Not sure yet, but the 7.0 and the 7.4 have different quake ID's as well as very different depths.

Still checking this out. The bigger ones happened after the smaller 5.8 and 6.4

That's what i was thinking - Hawaii wouldn't really be in any danger from a quake like this!

It's not two 7's - it's a 6.4 (first quake Papua) and a 7.0 (2nd quake Papua).

This just seems to be getting stronger and stronger from the alert map Im looking at. Those numbers jump up much more I can't imagine what the cause and effect is going to be. Something has to give somewhere.

when i click on your link in the first post, it takes me to the 7.0 quake, so i think it must have been downgraded.

One was just offshore, the other not far away onshore.

No tsunami info yet, but I'm pretty sure at least locally the water's sloshing high.

OK. Now the 7.0 and 7.4 have apparently been condensed into 1 quake. The depths are showing the same and the 7.4 has been downgraded into a 7.0. They now share the same quake ID. There has still been at least 2 other quakes in the last 45 mins there though:

Here is the data on the 6.4 that happened about 10 mins before the larger one:

This may seem like a weird question, but do you think the sun has something to do with all these earthquakes? I mean it is approaching it's peak sun cycles. Not my opinion just a question.

Well there's no threat to Australia according to whoever was manning the Tsunami desk at my work, and I doubt there will be any risk of a Tsunami for the rest of the pacific

Looks like the earthquake predictions in this video are coming to pass. They state it is due to the recent solar activities. I've followed several earthquake monitors on Twitter and I've not seen the activity that I've seen in the last 24 hours before.

Props to member Zeta Reticulan for bringing this video to my attention. This chilling video also states the full effect won't be felt for another day or two so maybe we are seeing the build up to something greater. I sure hope not but something is definatly happening and this video gives a very crediable explaination to me.

why is it that CNN website only reports a 6.4 magnitude earthquake off of Indonesia?
