I am curious as to why they aren't really reporting this on the news channels like cnn or msnbc or whatever. I mean isn't this a highly unusual amount of shocks, tremors, what have you? I see nothing here on the east coast.
This here has been the best news feed about it all night or I would have never known.
You folks went quiet, have they stopped or slowed down?

Well, 5.7 really isn't that big and being 4:00 in the morning on the east coast right now, not too many people are paying attention over there to the current swarm.

Earthquakes are ofcourse common in California, but this is most certainly something to be paying attention to. It really hasn't slowed down much; Check out the current list:

It finally got picked up by CBS although they simply mentioned "a moderate quake with some aftershocks". Only "some" aftershocks?

"Some aftershocks?" Hilarious.
I just posted 6 aftershocks in the span of 10 minutes.

Edit- *5* : scratch the Borrego Springs one.

Look at the number of quakes shown on the image at the link below. When I started looking it was at 393 quakes shown.

They reported "a moderate earthquake with some aftershocks"?

Okay, I guess I'd probably agree with them about the "moderate" part. A 5.7 is not really all that unusual here in California and most people won't even take notice until it goes at least upwards of a 6.0.

But I'd have to say this is a LOT more than "some" aftershocks. I haven't counted them, but they're filling up the whole USGS page, all Ocotillo, seems to be one about every 1 to 3 minutes or so, probably average around 2.0 to 2.5, but there's a fair share of 3's and 4's in the list too. And so far, I really don't see that the aftershocks are slowing down at all.

I know that aftershocks are not uncommon. And it's not unusual to have hundreds of them after a big earthquake. But this many aftershocks after a 5.7 seems a bit unusual to me.

peeps this is part of a ongoing earthquake swarm since about a month before that 7.2 hit . but with all of the quakes one could think that this part of california which borders mexico is about to break off of the main land ,

I felt 2 earthquakes. I was sitting in my assigned ride at my post of the day when I felt the earthquakes. I'm very susceptible to earthquake and I felt them seconds before they hit.

I was in San Ysidro, inside my ride, listening to coast to coast while doing my job when the air around me became quiet and everything felt silent. That's when I felt like butterflies in my stomach(not the love ones)and several seconds later I felt the earth wave and then shook really hard and then stopped, 2 seconds later the same thing happened but after it shook the waving didn't stop right way. Some one got on the radio and said "you guys felt the earthquake?" When the person said that I was still feeling it so I responded by saying "it's still going". In mere minutes it was announced the magnitude and where it originated.

Hopefully no one got hurt!

Wow, I hope you all are alright. I really do think something is going bad with the earth.

We have gotten 14+ inches of rain here in Oklahoma over the last 24 hours.
Im trying not to be paranoid but something is going on.

When you throw the 2.5+ mags in with the smaller ones it's like one big, long rumble from the original 5.7....

I've been a quake follower for a couple of years and realize this is an ongoing swarm although the frequency within such a short duration of time is what seems impressive and interesting. Including micro quakes, there have been over 220 of them within about 5 hours.

I'm interested to hear PuterMan's take on the situation. Stay safe Californians!
