(CNN) -- Conservative bloggers called for a protest Sunday against plans to build a mosque near the site of Ground Zero in lower Manhattan, where the twin towers of the World Trade Center were destroyed by Islamist hijackers on September 11, 2001.

"Building the Ground Zero mosque is not an issue of religious freedom, but of resisting an effort to insult the victims of 9/11 and to establish a beachhead for political Islam and Islamic supremacism in New York," the group "Stop the Islamicization of America" says on its website.

How ridiculous.

This just goes to show you how under attack Islam is by all sides. Like Islam declared war on the US on 9/11.

It's more the other way around I would think. The West has declared war on any other religious group who does not agree with our way of doing things.

I am very much in favor of this Mosque, I think it promotes religious equality and is a step FORWARD to moving on with this whole mess.

Besides, if there can be a strip club up the street, then why the hell can't there be a Mosque?

Those who will say that this is an insult to the 9/11 families, I disagree with you. You were not attacked by Islam, you were attacked by Religious Extremists.

You are 100% correct. I lost friends who were in building #1 and I was on West street by the walkway as the first plane hit. It would truly be as though the terrorists won because they perpetrated this cowardly act in the name of Islam!!!

Mosques are concrete expressions of Islamic Imperialism. A mosque is not a place of worship, it is a symbol of submission.

When muslims allows the construction of temples, synagogues, and churches in Mecca and Medina, then perhaps a mosque might be tolerated near the Islamic Jihad attack site in New York City.

Stop Jihad. Stop Sharia. Stop Killing Apostates.

I think people are rightly upset over this issue considering how muslim terrorists killed thousands of people and and now want to put up a mosque!

New York City community board voted Tuesday to support a Muslim-led plan to build a mosque near ground zero. About 150 people packed the Manhattan Community Board. One meeting and after four hours of heated debate, the board ultimately gave a 29-to-1 vote of residential approval.

But not everyone is oppossed to the mosque being built feet away from the World Trade Center. Manhattan Borough board member Rob Townley sees the vote as "a seed of peace" and "believes that this is significant step in the Muslim community to counteract the hate and fanaticism in the minority of the community."

Board president Scott Stringer was also pleased that the outcome "sent a clear message that [this] city is one that promotes diversity and tolerance."

Let's not forget the thousands of children who die from malnutrition every day cause 10c of every dollar you sent to your prominent Chritian organization wen to a child, instead of 100%.

Don't start an argument attempting to disprove that Religion of any kind doesn't kill people. Especially Christianity, because it certainly has.

Sure Islam has blood on it's hands, but your read to demonize 1/6th of the world's population for the actions of 19?
