I agree, and for the hot heads, yes this is strong rethoric, but this doesn't have to end in war. It is something to be solved by ending the blockade, the admittance of Gaza fishermen to fish at sea, for example. Though according to international law these fishermen are allowed to fish in their sea, Israel since a couple of years is shootiing them out of their sea, gradually limiting the boundaries of permitted fishing area's, from 12km to 6km. etc.

Israel has to cool down, and then reconsider it's role in this artificial history, Israel, where the West washed it's hands to ignorance (is bliss, nice song,Living Colour). The Palestinian conflict does bug my mind again and again, over twenty years now. I think this situation is more than it should be. It takes anything but violence, to be as it should. The Holocaust is a huge trauma, and as I see it, it is still harassing Israeli politics, and therefore Middle East politics.

Hello, are there still founding fathers attending this state with it's severe historical imprint?

I think that it's a bit late to decide they can't have that power, unfortunately. Soon, Iran will likely have nukes too, then the region will be a four way powder keg with India and Pakistan, as well as Israel and Iran. Two nuclear Mexican standoffs between 4 nations of religious fanatics, wahoo.

At least 6 Turkish aid activists were murdered on the ship, once this is public news, the Turks will have no choice but to assist the next flotilla with its navy. They will be sailing in international waters all the way through to Gaza, no matter what, Israel will engage them militarily and then hell will have its day starting in the Middle East.
However, Turkey will be heavily supported by Hamas, Hezbollah, Syria and right behind them Iran. Before this new flotilla sets sail, Turkey will be on full air, sea, land military alert. Israel will have a war on many fronts, leaving the already bogged US to jump in the action, and then in comes Russia and China, while the North & South Koreans get down and dirty with each other. As this is going on, all American civilians will be looting Wall Mart, killing each other while some them will be lynching O Reilly, Beck & Hannity.
All this is set to go off this summer, i just hope that everyone will have the decency to declare a few 90 minute ceasefires when Cameroon, France, Denamrk & Portugal are playing their matches in South Africa.
Have great summer all of you.

It's a bad situation for sure, but at the end of the day the US will have to chose between NATO (with their bases and missle defence sheild) or Isreal. Turkey is both Muslim and Christian too, if it was strictly a Muslim nation then yes, shots would be fired. The only way out of this mess is a deal.

Question: What does Isreal want?

Answer: They want people to stop talking about their nukes.

There is alot of press recently about Isreal and nuclear deals, alot of questions that countries are starting to openly ask. Isreal cannot risk being conclusively shown as a 'bad guy'; they thrive on beating the world with the victim card.

This has to stop, so they engineer a crisis to negotiate out of. Look at the breakdown...

-Isreal is not found guilty of an illegal blockade.
-Isreali leaders save face by being 'forced' to capitulate over aid.
-Isreal does not have to answer questions on it's nukes.

Here is a fairly recent article on CNN regarding the issue.

Headline: Security Council holds emergency session on storming of flotilla

www.cnn.com...

"If indeed it were a humanitarian mission, it would have accepted, weeks ago, during the planning stages, the offer by the Israeli authorities to transfer the aid, through to the port of Ashdod, to Gaza through the existing overland crossing, in accordance with established procedures," Carmon said.

I think this is BS. When this happens, the aid does not reach it's destination. Weve seen it so many times.

I know what you're saying. and yes the isrealis do need to stop acting irresponsibly. But I think that the constant violence and treat has driven them to be more paranoid than you average ATS member.

The biggest problem I see here, is the involvement of Turkey.

Seriously the Turks are NOT thinking about NATO right now, and could not give 2 hoots about relations with the USA. They will only be seeing that a turkish ship has been attacked.

OK, so this is how their game goes. The Turks are fuming over this. and they have a NEED to get one up. thats just they way they are. BUT they will be clever about it.

Send in the Navy with the next flotilla. YES it is VERY provocative, like a drunk saying OI YOU LOOKING AT MY PINT!!

Haveing Turking battle ship near Isreali waters will force them to act. there will be a confrontation.

IF, any shot are fired. the Turks will claim they were attacked first. and WILL play the victim! (they are very good at this) this will then give them all the reason they need to launch a strike.

Belive me when I say they right now have a need to get one back. And they WILL get it!.

I have seen this so many times in dealing with the Turkish. I just never though I would see the same ploy played out militarily.

of course you don't have to take my word for it. We will see what happens.

This will not follow any rules that you know of. the logic will be twisted. and you will be suprised at what happens. as they never do anything without knowing that they can get something out of it!

I can hear the drums of war beating loudly. This will not be good for the US at all.

I think Israel may get their butt kicked in this one. They may be forced to use the Nukes they deny they have and that will cause the whole middle East to erupt in war.

With so many US troops already in th region it wouldn't be hard to attack other countries from US Bases in Iraq and Afgainastan.

I have a feeling this may be the Start of WWIII I pray that I am wrong.

I believe the west are as much to blame for what happened as Israel is .
The Failure to act since 1967 , Failure to enforce U.N resolutions to reign back Israel from it's blatant land grab over the decades has sent a message to subsequent administrations that the are above the law and free to do as they please .
If you spare the rod you spoil the child as the saying goes , now the world has a petulant teenager on it's hands and it is finally time for some tough love .

What amazes me here is that people simply accept the notion that it is somehow okay for Israel to conduct this sort of blockade on Gaza. You cannot justify landlocking a coastal country to the desert. If Gaza doesn't have the ability to bring in supplies from the west, they simply won't have the ability to survive. Afterall, Israel owns everything around them except the water and that is what they are trying to take away.

This is completely unacceptable and I am glad the Turks are doing this...

At this point, Israel will have little choice but to end the blockade or face serious, SERIOUS consequences...
People who don't believe that the Turks can handle the Israelis are deluding themselves. Especially when you realize that the Turks can call on like 27 other NATO allies to lend a hand... including the US.

Of course, the US would likely turn that request down, but that would be an impeachable offense against Obama (not that that amounts to much, its happened in the past)

Meanwhile the website didn't exist in 96, you all are part of the "international Community", yet there were no calls for any sort of action for what the Cuban regime did...

As for Israel and Palestine... don't give me the crap that the Palestinians are the victims when there have been many Israeli people, including entire families murdered by Palestinian terrorists with the backing of HAMAS, and the Palestinian authorities which advocates violence against Israel...

There could have been peace in the ME for a long time... several times Palestine was given the chance to have their own nation/state ONLY IF they accepted the existence of Israel, but the Palestinian authority, HAMAS and other Palestinian terrorists do not want for Israel to exist...

I get tired of the claims that the Palestinians are the only victims when Palestinian terrorists have murdered even entire Israeli families like Tali Hatuel, and all of her daughters.

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/bb56f6e6c354.jpg[/atsimg]

May 2, 2004 - Tali Hatuel, 34, and her daughters - Hila, 11, Hadar, 9, Roni, 7, and Merav, 2 - of Katif in the Gaza Strip were killed when two Palestinian terrorists fired on an Israeli car at the entrance to the Gaza Strip settlement bloc of Gush Katif.

Tali Hatuel and her four daughters were killed when two Palestinian terrorists fired on an Israeli car at the entrance to the Gaza Strip settlement bloc of Gush Katif. They were on their way to campaign against Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's disengagement plan. Their white Citroen station wagon spun off the road after the initial shooting, then the attackers approached the vehicle and shot the occupants dead at close range. The Hatuels' car was riddled with bullets, and the carpet inside was stained with blood. The girls were killed hugging one another. On the car was a bumper sticker saying, "Uprooting the settlements, victory for terror."

www.mfa.gov.il...

Both sides have committed atrocities, the only difference is that Palestinian terrorists, HAMAS, Hezbollah etc use their own people as shields, and hide among civilians on purpose to paint Israel as the aggressor, and as evil...

BTW, if you had bothered to read my response you would have seen that I called for both nations to be able to co-exist...but the Palestinian terrorists, which includes the Palestinian authorities, HAMAS, Hezbollah, etc, do not want Israel to exist at all...

I'm not argueing with you at all, I just don't see a war.

I do see the same game that TPTB have been suckering us with for years. This is all a setup towards a predetermined objective. The question is just what is the goal.

On the other hand, I do agree with you, some times things just happen.

Isreal treats it's friends like they are disposable, one has to wonder if their paranoia lets them see anything other than current and future enemies when looking out at the world. They may actually think they can get away with this since they have every other time (and may now too).

We'll see, hopefully cooler heads will prevail.

i predict if we do go to war, nd happen to side with NATO and not Isreal, then Isreal will take it as a provocation of war against them.
But if we happen to go with both, we would have americans killing americans. we would have a giant cluster**uck.

Yeah, and for every sob story you pull out there is an equal arguing against Israel. Spare the tit for tat crap...
Simple fact is that Israel is effectively starving out an entire population. You cannot deny that.
They are denying REBUILDING MATERIALS... why do they need them? Because they have been destroyed.
What harm would allowing concrete into Gaza do? None!

That was their justification for killing the humanitarians (not protestors) on those boats.

Get over it, Israel is wrong!

And they are about to be dealt with... hopefully.

With the Turks using their NAVY to escort the aid ships, there is no doubt that Israel is going to be FORCED to allow them passage. There is no way Israel will stand against the entirety of NATO in open defiance...

The US is now in a position that they cannot back Israel in this affair.

ETA: (But if Turkey were to ask the US to fight Israel with them, the US would reject that, rip up the NATO contracts and remain neutral)

In other words, I agree.

I honestly hope that Israel does something else really stupid and fires on the Turks. The Turkish will respond in-kind, and then some. Israel has gone unchecked for far too long and she is drunk with power.
