Its a bit of a combo that one. You chose, and your Higher Self, with others, and, depending on your level of development, certain planets or lives are opened up for you. Earth is a special case. This is a cycles end, and people need to wake up, gain awareness of who they are and feel for each other.

edit to add:

Your thread on reincarnation is good, but really, we're all here for different reasons. For some this is karmic debt and we may have less choice, our guides make more of them, but the horrifying starvation of billions (who didnt use to starve and had access to land and resources on their own like the natives did) really puts a damper on this for many. And the destruction of nature. Some come from higher dimensions to assist, and from the BEYOND, itself, even willing to be trapped for trillions of years in the never ending cycles, like GROUNDHOG DAY the movie, until we wake up and graduate. even as beetles.

Note its not so much about ascension as about giving to humans and the starving, helping those in need, love, and also to all of nature and caretaking cruelty free, because, we are already all that is, everything, the infinite universe and the infinite beyond as fractals equally.
ascension is one person rising above (where there is no above in infitinty, just everything is) so the true rules have to do with love and sharing.) This is what can change whats coming and pull in our help and not convict us with karma to entrap us further.

Love & Light!

Can a person choose who/what they want to be in their next life or there is no choice at all and what the person is reincarnated into is random?

Thanks.

Oh I hope we can choose. It may (or may not) have some thing to do with your belief system. People who have NDE's often report complex interactions with other beings, dead relatives, and God knows what. People usually report seeing a deep white light. Many have suggested that that light is the birth canal leading to your next incarnation. Oh God I hope its not just a "and the next idiot to reincarnate is..."

What I find very interesting is several religions, Buddism and Hinduisim (sorry if I really mutilated the spelling. I hope to do better...) have a complex process post death before incarnation into another body. One idea is it reflects the results of Karma. But the reason I think we in the end chose how well our Karma does is not as cut and dry as many think it is. Case in point: Say a Roman soldier from the year 100ce does some dreadfull things. Cricification, burning people alive, and lets not forget some one thrown to the lions. (If I lived in ancient Rome and was thrown to the lions the first thing I would do is say "nice kitty". If that diden't work, I'd wet my pants.)

Yet what if that soldier was just living according to the norms of the day? He might be a man who never abussed his wife or kids, he worked very hard to provide for them. He was honest and fair. Would you condem him for living in a society where brutality was SOP As Enstien said; "everything is relative". The religions mentioned above have a pretty straight forward view on post death. You face "The mirror of Karma" The same as the Christ's last judgement. After that you pick the mother you will be bourn to. Why would one choose to be poor at birth, suffer other problems, etc?

The people who come back as people in terrible conditions, may choose to so their soal can grow. I hope when I die I get a little time to have some fun post death, before I have to go back. If each of us has a soal, which I believe we do, we may be the conductor of our own train. Between us and "them" the whole process could be very subjective.

I believe you choose your reincarnation... to a point.

For example, once it is time for you to reincarnate you will choose your family and what your goal will be for you to learn in this next lifetime. The thing is though, nothing is set in stone, so you may choose to live your life to learn one thing but life may take you in another direction. We continue to do this until we have learned all we can as a human being. This is all speculation, but some of it I believe as fact, but it is also not something set in stone so I can neither prove or disprove any of this. Take everything you hear with a grain of salt. The only thing that matters is what you personally believe, we will all find out what happens when we die.

And when you reincarnate you start over spiritually, in a sense at least. You don't loose what you've learned in past lives consciously, but when you start your new life you have no recollection of your past lives or past spiritual experiences. You're only aware of the collection of all spiritual/physical experiences while in spiritual form. You can regress some of it through meditation - if you were to get to the point of true enlightenment you'd have all the knowledge possible, and even though it's something to strive for, it is simply not an easy task as we all know.

Maybe a person (once dead) goes to another realm and reflect their life experience that they had?
Maybe a human keeps reincarnating on Earth until they went through everything they needed to go through (as in life experiences, etc.) on Earth?

Now I know this might sound crazy, but people can choose to believe me or choose to ridicule me, my grammar, whatever. This is what I believe recincarnation is all about.

It's a process of graduation. you start off as an animal. Gradually, you evolve and grow. Your spirit dies and jumps to a different animal, and so on and so forth. Through your tribuals and trials, you will rise along the ladder. Look at Africa. Why is there so much war going on? People are ruthlessly killing one another. What if in a past life, you were a victim to a war mongerer? You were riding down cars and shooting at people.

The people I just described would be the class beneath us. This continues to evolve. Medieval times, African war, gang war. All those mentalities we all went through and experienced. We are rising to a peak that now surpasses that of random knowledge. We are evolving to a greater state that will no longer require any challenges, such as war and violence.

I had a very weird day today, and a lot of chronological order came through. Consider this one of my last posts to hit 20. I took long enough and I want to make a topic about something I just thought up. >=l

If it's random - I hope I will reincarnate anywhere except in this place. The world is going crazy again. And always will. And it smells so bad. I don't think there's worse hell than this. Many good people live in a hell in their heads and only rare escape from this world's reality here on Earth.

I have seen what I wanted - it was more than enough - I don't belong here though it is a valuable experience - hope not to get back here anytime.

I loved your analogy, because i think our souls are very likely hard drives... but you missed a critical point, and your theory can be easily turned against your claims by a siple detail that maybe you didn't know (i'm a computer freak...)

You can always format a HDD, but there's always remanent information that can be recovered by a computer forensic. Sic, they're specialist that can recover data of damaged and formated HDDs with specific tools and knowledge. Their fees are expensive as hell so only in extreme cases of critical lose of data, imagine in companies and goverment agencies, they're hired. They also work to prove computer felonies with Interpol and othr policy agencies all aropund the world... There's also comercial programs that can help you to recover lost data from a formated HDD... some years ago I formated my HDD by mistake and I recovered almost all the info on it, except some files that went corrupted after the data recovery. Stellar Phoenix is the first name that comes to my mind when talking about data recovery programs.

You can always format a HDD, but with specific techniques you can still recover information that was supposedly lost due the format. The same goes on with dreams and regresions that tells you about your past lifes. A tricky way to recover those clusters of lost data that can be still recovered from the HDD of our soul.
Great, great analogy, my friend. A star for you, even when I don't agree with you in a 100%. I still believe that souls are equals to HDDs, but I do believe in past lifes, and I know that data can be recovered, so...
