Weather channel says it is still on for Hawaii - says to watch in about an hour - for any tsuanmi there.

The tsunami watch for Hawaii was dropped at 10:23AM HST. A tsunami advisory is still in effect. Swimmers, beachgoers and boaters are advised to exercise caution.

BASED ON ALL AVAILABLE DATA A MAJOR TSUNAMI IS NOT EXPECTED
TO STRIKE THE STATE OF HAWAII. HOWEVER SEA LEVEL CHANGES AND
STRONG CURRENTS MAY OCCUR ALONG THE COAST THAT COULD BE A
HAZARD TO SWIMMERS...BOATERS AND BEACHES. THEREFORE THE
TSUNAMI WATCH FOR HAWAII IS CANCELLED BUT A TSUNAMI ADVISORY
IS IN EFFECT.

Or they're taking video from 2004 relabeling it and posting it as Samoa.

Getting early reports from eastern news outlets and live satellite feeds of as many as 40 dead so far.

No live images yet to be found, and the reports were coming in over the phone. I imagine we'll get a clearer picture as the day goes on.

Update:

BREAKING -- forecasts indicate that a tsunami with amplitudes in the range of 20 to 65cm is expected along the California and Oregon coast.

Warnings are for those in areas that may be affected to move away from coastal areas due to strong currents, Its not a warning but an advisory

I could be wrong but, based on those times, I think that those quakes may be the ones that got this all going in the first place.

The quake listed as Samoa are around 20,000 ft below sea level.
The quake listed as Tonga are sitting on top of a cliff or shelf around 5000 ft below sea level. Interesting seeing the relation between the six on google earth. They are 60 to 80 miles seperated but are lying at the bottom of the cliff.

Someone earlier said something about if there were two then worry...

Hmmm...

Yeah, those 8.0s are the ones that started the tsunami.

The main window shows when the quake happened in UTC. The window over it shows the time compared to Central European time. The quake occurred about five hours ago, not recently.

The data comes from different seismometers. It takes a while to correlate it all.
It is now showing the single 8.0 with diminishing aftershocks.

So if you are on the west coast...how "high" is considered higher ground?? I am about 100 feet or more above sea level technically, yet it is a 7 minute walkl down to the beach, so 2 blocks away down the hill....

Yeah I jumped the gun on that I guess...

First it had one...then 2...

I bet it is a mess though...even a a false positive 6.3M in Russia from it

GEE is still showing all kinds of tremors...
