Well, you can also doubt your own senses about the altitude of plane when you first saw it.

Edited to add that I always start by doubting myself, after all, it's what I see and ear that I have to interpret, if that last step fails my brain is being fed the wrong data.

First thing that popped into my mind is: "Could this be Project Blue Beam/HAARP?"

Aren't these projects supposedly able to project holographic images? Could it be a test of the tech with objects we'd recognize to be sure it works prior to a massive UFO fleet "invasion" projected above our heads? The UFO sightings DO seem to be picking up. And an airplane flying a thousand feet above our heads and disappearing would be a lot less likely to stir up panic among the sheeple, at least in my opinion... Maybe it's a trial run.

Or, if you want to get into some very out there thoughts, could the same thing have happened on 9/11 with the plane that hit the pentagon? People saw it... Something hit it... no wreckage?

Just a thought... Don't necessarily believe ANY of this, but it is interesting...

I had a similar experience happen just the other night. I live quite close to Stansted Airport in the UK and was out sky-watching and watching planes circle overhead before making their approach to the airport about 10 miles away when I noticed a very bright light coming in from a different direction to the rest. It slowly got brighter but by about 3 minutes later it hadn't move at all so I thought it may have been a star. It had no flashing lights like the airplanes do and just hung there in the sky but suddenly it started to move across the sky from left to right.

As it passed by, a house blocked my view so I ran around the corner onto an open field to keep it in my site but it had gone. It literally only took about 5 seconds to get behind the house and I know EXACTLY where it would have been, but NO sign of it anywhere in a big open, clear sky.

That kinda freaked me out but didn't think much of it until yesterday when a friend of mine told me he'd seen basically the same thing but with a plane going behind a small cloud above him, then not seeing it again. He said it looked like a commercial airliner and should have reappeared within 3 or 4 seconds but it didn't and apart from this cloud that was reasonably low, it was a clear sunny day.

Anyway, we shared stories, freaked out a bit, then I saw this thread - otherwise I wouldn't have even mentioned it here.

Also seen a few other strange things in the skies recently, such as clusters of bright lights in broad daylight (a bit like the "balloon" reported the other day) and unidentified dark objects flying close to planes at 40,000 ft then vanishing

I noticed another CT site is saying people are being raptured via commercial airliners so maybe this is why planes are dissapearing everywhere

You mentioned seeing dark objects flying by planes and that reminded me of something I saw a couple years ago. At the time, I was a flight attendant and was based at Ontario National Airport in Ontario, California. The place I rented was about a mile from the airport. One day, I was outside and noticed one of the planes from my airline coming in to land and was just standing there watching it when I noticed a dark object flying beside of the plane. The plane was only at about 1000 feet and descending. I stood there trying to figure out what it was. At first I thought it was a helicopter, but then the plane banked to the west and the object kept going south. That's when I realized it was definitely NOT a helicopter or anything else that I recognized. It was just a sphere-like, dark object... maybe just a little more oblong than a sphere. It moved at the same speed as the plane the whole time it was visible to me. This happened in broad daylight and I wondered if the passengers on the plane saw it... actually I wondered how they COULDN'T see it. I never did hear anything about anyone else seeing it though. Anyway, I have no clue what it was... I just know what it wasn't and your story reminded me of it.

I am not trying to discount your testimony, or your eyewitness experience. However, some things seem inconsistent, since I am quite familiar with the Ontario (CA) Airport.

Here is the diagram, for those not familiar:
flightaware.com...

Note that there are just the two parallel Runways, oriented East/West.

One day, I was outside and noticed one of the planes from my airline coming in to land and was just standing there watching it when I noticed a dark object flying beside of the plane.

This, I very much wish I could have seen!!

The plane was only at about 1000 feet and descending.

On a normal approach, and I assume to the West, since that is, due to prevailing winds, the predominant landing and take-off direction, an airplane at 1000 feet above the ground (AGL) will be about 3 miles from the end of the Runway. Your rented apartment was, you said, "about a mile" from the airport.

I stood there trying to figure out what it was.... but then the plane banked to the west...

I was following your story, until you wrote that. Since I was born and raised in the LA area, I well know that familiarity with surrounding mountains helps to orient us, as to West and North....therefore, East and South as well. As I've pointed out, unless you saw an airplane on a left base (heading North) prior to turning West onto Final Approach....I cannot understand why you'd say you saw the airplane, with the livery of the company you worked for, 'ban to the west'.

...and the object kept going south.

So, both the passenger airplane, and the object were going South? That would be unusual, because that would mean that as you saw the passenger airplane 'bank to the west', it would have been a right bank, and you know how closely nestled up to the hills the Ontario, CA, airport is.

However, having written that, I looked at published arrivals (STARS) for KONT. The ZIGGY FOUR comes from the NorthEast (say, from Las Vegas, for instance):
Here:flightaware.com...

OK. Now that we've covered all of that ground, I still find the rest of your story compelling> (again, not discounting, just putting it to some tests...)

Welll...IF it was trailing slightly, behind the airplane, then likely no one would see it.

Thanks for the eyewitness report. Again, I am slightly jealous. I just wanted to analyze, and hopefully understand, a little bit, what you saw!

I will admit that I sometimes absolutely SUCK with directions, lol. I could have been wrong. I'll try to explain a little better. Oh, and after reading over my post, I failed to mention that after the plane banked, it actually circled before it landed. This happened sometime between late summer and mid-fall of '07. I'm sorry I can't be more specific about that time... I was so busy when I was staying there that days just seemed to run together. I do remember that it was around the time of a bad wind storm that demolished almost every tree standing in our little neighborhood. The wind storm could be the reason that the plane had to circle because I do remember that during the flights I worked around that time, the turbulence was horrible and quite a few planes had to circle before it was safe to land. I'll give my exact location...

I was standing just out in front of the house that I was staying in on North Solano Privado... it's just off 4th street in Ontario. I was facing the airport, which was visible, in the distance, from our house. The plane (and the object) came in from my right. When the plane was almost directly in front of me, it banked to its right, but the object kept going straight, still pretty much parallel with the 10. It didn't change altitude... just kept on moving at the same altitude and speed. It took me a few seconds to realize that what I was seeing wasn't normal because it was moving at a "normal" speed. It didn't seem to be affected at all by the winds and it was moving smoothly... not bouncing around or anything. I wasn't really awestruck or anything because even though I knew I had seen something odd, I kept thinking that there had to be a logical explanation for it, although I couldn't think of one, lol! Oh, and the object was flying just barely below the wing of the plane. From my vantage point, it was hard to tell exactly how close it was to the plane though. The plane was an Embraer 145... a commuter jet, and the object was fairly small in comparison. It was about the same height as the plane... maybe just a bit shorter and just a little longer than it was tall. I guess it's possible that with the wind being as wild as it was at the time, maybe something had just been picked up by a gust of wind and was moving along an air current. It looked pretty solid though. This was just one of the possible explanations I came up with at the time. I really don't know what it was. It was just very strange seeing it flying along with the plane like that.

Not sure about the engine noice cutting out but, isn't it part of pilots, prerequesits to land a plane , NOT under power?

I had a very similar experience happen to me last night....

I live in Florida, right by the beach. I was driving home last night around 10:00, and all of a sudden up at about 1 o'clock in the sky, I noticed a very very bright light. I assumed this light to be an airplane, but with such a bright light it would have to be one just taking off or landing to be so low in the sky. There is not an airport within an hour of where I live. So as I was driving along staring at this thing, and still trying to stay on the road, it just completely disappeared. Whatever the bright light was in the sky was there one minute, and then it was gone. I was so freaked out that I almost wrecked.

It could not have gone behind anything or been hidden by a cloud because 1. it was over the ocean, and 2. it was a completely clear night.

I dont know what it was, but it definitely was very strange.

Its possible, and of course you're right. It was a long time ago and the simplest explaination would be a fault with my own judgement but, well, I remember being absolutely and totally confused and as far as I can be, I'm sure that something odd and out of the ordinary happened.

Just thought i would add something to this & try & get an answer.

A few weeks ago while on top of the malvern hills in the uk i watched two jet liners being escorted by a black fighter jet which was leading them while the two liners were side by side. The jet liners were full sized and very slender and silver in colour with a red stripe down the side and werent travelling too fast but were very low, although i was also fairly high up. There are no airports within 50 miles and then its a commercial one.
The fighter was defineatly escorting the two so would they have been military?
If so why were they silver with a red stripe?

Anyhow just thought i would share that in case anyone else saw them too.

Just had a thought. Is it possible that some kind of temperature/humidity differential between the location of the viewer and that of the aircraft could cause enough refraction to make it appear that the aircraft are lower than they actually are? just trying to eliminate all possibles.

No way this would have made news............. it was a commercial jet liner lol

sure they do.... remember actual airspeed and ground speed are two different things.... sometimes aircrafts can appear to stand still.... but whats really going on is a huge headwind.... But then again i don't believe this was a typical aircraft...

thats impossible... the plane then would have had to increase speed drastically... and even military jets wouldn't have been out of sight for the mere 2-3 seconds behind the tree .. I had a clear field of view...... plus no SOUND .... if it did increase speed and was some sort of military \commercial jetliner I should have heard a huge increase in engine noise.......but nope it was actually the opposite engine noise disappeared............... very weird!
