Rate the movie you just watched

I took a gaggle of kids today to watch Race to Witch Mountain.

I enjoyed it more than the kids because I felt it was like being at an ATS convention if there ever is one!

The Rock predictably spends his time flexing his eyebrows up and down or belting people.

UFO's to boot.

For kids 6/10
For ATSers 8/10
For normal people 5/10

2 movies:

Amityville Horror(sp?) --- (yes, sadly, this is the first time I've seen it)
8.5/10 -- Great subtelty in it's horror. Almost realistic, perhaps even is realistic. Some "The Shining" aspects that I liked (I'm not even sure which came first). If I see it scheduled on the tele again, will definately watch it again. Also b/c of Superman, I've always liked the actress in this movie who plays the wife. Only reason it did not get a higher ranking was it's "happy" ending.

The Bucket List
4.5/10 -- If I had cancer, or were older, perhaps I would have enjoyed it more, perhaps not. Jack acted... and it was not a role he was suited for, though he certainly tried. Morgan Freeman was excellent, as usual. The emotional string-pulling was obvious, and almost boring. Morgan Freeman saved this movie from a 1/10.

City of god (Cidade de Deus)

Watched again last night....i originally went to the cinema to see it when it came out but forgot just how truly amazing this movie is.
As beautifully shot as a movie can get and also as brutal and harrowing as one can get too.

It tales the tale of life for youngsters growing up in a Rio slum, called Cidade de Deus and follows their journey from little kids to troubled young men.
Full of diverse and wonderfully acted characters, this film is a true masterpiece and deserves it's title as one of the best foreign language films of all time.

9/10

If you haven't seen it...... DO.

Dragon Ball Evolution.. 4/10. Enjoyable but only rent worthy.
What a screwed up movie, but a few laughs.

Transporter 3.. 6/10. It was good, but too much like the other movies.
The fight scenes were abit cheesy too, they always circle around him and it turns into some dance act..

I've got a ton.

Milk: 10/10! Great film and a great story.

Slumdog Millionare: 8.5/10. I really liked it, but I don't think it should have been the Best Picture of the year.

Role Models: 8/10. I thought this was hilarious with a decent story. I had no expectations for it and I think that contributed to me enjoying it as I couldn't have been disappointed. I really laughed my ass off at this film.

Transporter 3: 7/10. Another film in the series. It was what I expected.

Rock 'n Rolla: 7.5/10. Another solid Guy Ritchie film. Enjoyed it and if you're a fan of his work, you'll love it. If you're not, it's probably not for you.

Marley & Me: 10/10. Movies like this deserve more credit when it comes the awards season. This isn't a tale of poverty or an assassination. It is the basic tale of a man and his love for his family and dog and the life that they all share. LOVED this movie.

Iron Man: 7.5/10. I liked it but felt it was too predictable. I'm looking forward where they take this series.

Adventureland: 7.5/10. A funny movie that has a few laughs and a mediocre storyline. Enjoyed it but in comparison to Superbad, Knocked up, or other comedies in recent years.. it does come up short.

Milk was the latest from start to finish, via DVD.

Much better than I expected.

It's fun, sometimes to chew through each year's Academy picks, don't always have the time.

Finally saw 'The Man Who Knew Too Much' all the way through. (Yeah, I know...not very recent, but it's Hitchcock!!)

Recent contemplations have reminded me of 'Contact'....again, not recent, but contemporary...

Back to recent....the 'Bond' series seems to be suffering, based on 'Quantum of Solace'....am I the only one who had difficulty following?

'Pineapple Express'...mindnumbing, funny at times. Best described as 'escapism'?

But, for pure, joyous dance in your seat escapism....'Mamma Mia'!!!

(well, until what's-his-name tries to sing...bless his heart. He wasn't a very good Bond, either....) BUT, I will watch anything with Meryl Streep!

Boogie Nights:
Incredible cast, incredible music.
Tons of memorable lines and characters. All loosely based on archetypes of the 70's to 80's porn industry.

Saw it at the cinema today...

A Swedish vampire movie (although, not a typical vampire movie...more a movie about human emotions and situations )with a twist.
Extremely dark, atmospheric and poignant..... poetic.

Two 12 year old's play the lead characters...but this is no kids film.

If you like all action vampire movies, with constant dialogue and no silence or time for reflection, this is not for you.

This is a haunting vampire fable, beautiful to watch and unlike anything I've seen really.

8/10

A friend and I play a fun game of imagining Keanu as the main character of our all time favorite movies. Just thinking about him in The Godfather or Star Wars just cracks me up

I recently watched "Red Belt" and was pleasantly surprised. Sure it's a martial arts movie but it has a couple of twists and a non standard ending that did it for me.

I saw "Knowing" in the theater last week and except for one incredible scene it was a total waste of time. But if you enjoy watching N. Cage act like N. Cage, you might enjoy "knowing" but what do I know?

I personally got a lot out of "Knowing." It is definitely a "read between the lines" movie. It contained a warning and not one of hope. So it was disturbing on many levels. I liked it!!!

I am with you here. I loved this movie!!! Surprisingly well done.

No Country for Old Men.

9/10 -- Colorful characters, some interesting points/messages. The plot can get confusing, but still very good. Realistic despite the extremity of some of the characters(sugar). Woody Harrelson was a bad pick for his part, but it wasn't enough to ruin the movie. The best part of the movie was the detail. It shows a tool being built, it shows a wound being dressed, the details are usually thrown off as boring, but in this movie they were an important part of the story.

A must see, IMHO..

Hollywood needs to step up its game. Its been a long time since I watched I movie I enjoyed.

The Happening 4/10 - The director only made one good movie (sixth sense)

Knowing 4/10 - formulaic and mediocre

Slumdog Millionaire 4/10 - overhyped

W. 2/10 - incredibly boring...Oliver Stone can do much better

No Country for Old Men 5/10 - seen it all before

The Dark Knight 7/10 - good entertainment, good acting

Lost (Series)9/10 - the only thing I enjoy watching currently

Yes Man 3/10 - very poor adaption of the much better book

The International 4/10 - seen it all before

Benjamin Button 5/10 - not too bad...but wont be watching it again

The Day the Earth Stood Still 2/10 - predictable and cliched

Last night I saw two movies:

"Stay" (aka "Sleeping Dogs Lie") written and directed by Bob Goldthwait.

It is a dark comedy about a young woman who did a disgusting thing back in college and decides to be honest about it. Wildly uneven, the cast does a good job with the material they are given. I didn't like this movie too much, as it wants to be both thought provoking and very crude. It doesn't work in this movie, so I give it a 5/10, because the cast is quite good.

Ed Wood, move over. There is another name in schlock, and it is Herschell Gordon Lewis. The movie is called "Blood Feast", and is about a madman who is sacrificing young women to his Egyptian blood goddess Ishtar. The movie is one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time, even though the filmmaker wanted to scare the audience instead. The madman walks with a limp (naturally), and has in his possession a book called "Ancient Weird Religious Rites". I laughed so hard I hurt myself when the camera gave a close-up to that title. I don't even want to mention the fake blood and guts throughout this masterpiece.

Terrible acting, extremely low budget, and inept direction gives Mr Wood a run for his money in worst filmmaker ever. The movie would rate a 0/10, but the unintentional hilarity brings it up to an 8/10. Worthy of Joe Bob Briggs' drive-in.

Thanks kf, the "so bad they're good" genre is an accquired taste but one worth exploring.

Anyway I went to see "The Reader" again. What a great movie. I almost never go see film twice. Kate Winslett was great!

I saw the film noir tribute "Body Heat" last night.

The 1940s was a great decade for the genre of movie that was dark and filled with shady characters, and "Body Heat" pays tribute to them. Kathleen Turner plays Matty Walker, who is married to a very rich man. William Hurt is a third rate ethically challenged lawyer who meets her on a very steamy night. We all know the plot will lead to murdering the wealthy husband, as that was the usual mainstay of these movies. Good cinematography and acting makes it feel like there is a heatwave going on. I rate it a 9/10.

Godfrey Cambridge and Estelle Parsons make the movie with their acting. It is about a white bigot who turns black overnight. The movie tries to be satiric, zany and psychedelic at the same time, and neither part really works. I give the filmmaker points for the subject matter and being different, but overall the movie is kind of bland. 5/10

I just downloaded "Let The Right One In" yesterday. Not watched it yet. It's meant to be a damn good film and I enjoy the best foreign Indie flicks. It's that good, Hollywood have bought it, changed the title and decided the vampire girl is more of a metaphor for the boys view of the world. Sounds like when they thought 'Taxi' was so good it required changing the genders of the main players!? Duh?

Too fast Too Furious is excellent garbage. Very enjoyable. No redeeming features apart from tuned engines

Boy In the Striped Pyjamas and Rec are next on the playlist.

Hey mate.... It really is a good movie... although "the boys view" thing is a little strange.... perhaps they haven't read the book.... or watched the film

But it is somber..... thought provoking and visually stunning.
A truly unique movie and one that i would recommend to anyone who is into foreign/indie movies...

I love foreign films.... like I'm addicted.
Hollywood has turned out garbage for so long now.... that i find foreign movies to be a blessing and usually a deep, thought provoking experience.

Obviously not all, and there are as many guff/crap foreign movies as there are english speaking ones.... but the gems are just stunning right?

Woody Allen's only movie that is not very good. It is about a comedy filmmaker who wants to do serious movies. He also has a hard time letting go of a former girlfriend. The movie tried to be serious and zany at the same time. Too many weird characters are in this one, and it just becomes a big mess. For the most part, Mr Allen has turned out very good movies and a few masterpieces in his ongoing career. This is the only truly disappointment he has made. 4/10

This independent movie is has a very foreign feel to it. It does not follow the conventional Hollywood formula, and is very fun to watch. At 11:14, two very bad accidents happen to two different people. The movie follows different characters of the story to bring everything together. Hilary Swank, Patrick Swayze, Barbara Hershey and Shawn Hatosy star in this movie. For those fans of independent cinema, this one is worth it. 9/10
