I figured that rather than have a million different threads about different movies, why not have one thread where everyone can post a quick blurb about their most recent movie watching experience.

I searched for a similar thread but couldn't find one. Not that the search button is infallible.

The Last Temptation of Christ
www.imdb.com...

9/10

I am not particularly religious so I didn't find it particularly blasphemous. I can see where Christians may not like it because it shows a more human side of Jesus. All in all though, it was well acted and beautifully directed. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The midnight Bayou: 8/10 stars
Last night and the night after I found myself watching "Nora Roberts: The midnight Bayou"
This was a TV Movie with Lauren Stamile and Jerry O'Connell. I haven't "read" any Nora Robert books, but I can say the Movie was good. If your into ghost stories and reincarnation themes, this movie would be a watcher.

Last night I watched (yet again) a film by one of my favorite directors, Sam Peckinpah. The film is titled "Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia" (1974) and stars Warren Oates.

Besides being Peckinpah's self described "most personal & satisfying" of all of his films, it is notable to mention that this particular work represents the first of it's kind within the "thriller" genera (in regards to the amount & degree of realism in scenes of graphic violence depicted within the movie itself)

Peckinpah was afforded the the rare opportunity of exercising "total creative control" in the writing & directing process in this film, with no worrisome attempts at influencing his artistic purity by the producers or studio. (comparable to Orson Welles level of control in "Citizen Kane")

10/10

The Parallax View was on TMC last night. It starred Warren Beatty as a hack reporter who is asked by a friend to help her. She is a junkie, but believes her life is in danger because she was at an assassination a few years back. Echos of the Warren Commission and JFK are in this early film. It is engrossing, but for modern day movie fans, they may not like the ending. (It is very 1970s, and fans of those movies will know what I mean without giving away anything.)

Well directed, this movie is perfect for ATS members.

I finally sat down and watched "Hitman" I know it's probably old news now lol, but I don't get out much - I don't even know what the newer movies are..?

I would rate it a 6.75/10 - I really liked the concept - but the actual storyline lacked in the content I was searching for.

The introduction to the movie (the 3 minutes or so of flashbacks showing the training and selection of hit-men) I thought was the best part of the movie... Then it started to get a little un-realistic and strayed away from the interesting stuff. The show started to redeem itself near the end, but still it wasn't quite what I had expected. I was expecting a "Bourne Identity" kind of movie - and was disappointed when it wasn't as such. The actual ending I hated....(the last 3 minutes). They could have ended it better I think.

Persepolis--9/10 stars.

Based on the graphic novel, about a girl growing up in Iran during the Islamic Revolution. The movie is black and white animated, in French with English subtitles. Sounds like it would be dreary, but was surprisingly funny and touching, and kept my three children (ages 6, 12, and 15) engrossed and entertained. Take a look at the troubled history of Iran from an unexpected point of view.

I just watched the latest Bond offering...I really like Daniel Craig as Bond and thought Casino Royale was really good, even though I'm not a fan of the genre generally. Quantum of Solace however, felt incomplete, and I really expected another 20 minutes of story to explain it all at the end. It was ok...the usual stunts, and skinny Bond girls (when will they learn and bring in another Honey Rider?) so I would give it 6ish out of 10.

Gran Torino

8/10

I thought it was a pretty typical Clint Eastwood movie. It felt pretty similar to Million Dollar Baby, if you know what I mean. His acting was pretty good for the most part but some of it felt pretty forced. I didn't like the guy who played the barber. Their relationship just didn't feel real to me.

The movie was fairly predictable but still a good watch.

BTW The Parallax View 9/10 (I am a fan of movies that have daring endings.)

I saw "The Cooler" on IFC last night. William H Macy is outstanding as he plays a loser whose job is to walk toward tables where people are winning. He has such rotten luck, that it spills onto the table and people start losing. It was an excellent character study made for adults in a movie industry that caters to children and teens. I rate it a 9.5/10. Alec Baldwin plays an old school casino boss, and is quite good in it. For those who love independent cinema, this one is for you.

www.imdb.com...

Last week I saw the movie "Volver" with Penelope Cruz and directed by Pedro Almodovar. Mr Almodovar does know women, and this masterpiece was a joy to watch. I always admired movies that featured strong women, and this one is one of the best. Ms Cruz plays Raimunda, who visits her aunties on a regular basis with her daughter and sister. The movie is beautifully filmed, and the subtitles were easy to read. I also like it that they are shown in the letterbox format. This is one of the best movies I have seen, and easily rates a 10/10. I think people on this board should give indie and international movies a try. They are so much better than the usual Hollywood tripe produced today. It is nice not to have explosions or CGI in a movie.

Just finished watching "TWILIGHT"------it completely drew me in from it's haunting music to it's vampire love story theme. The vampire baseball match scene was total class. Not the best vamp film ever, that accolade goes to "near dark" but highly enjoyable. I understand it's going to be a trilogy..

Rating=8/10

I saw "Knowing" in the theater last week and except for one incredible scene it was a total waste of time. But if you enjoy watching N. Cage act like N. Cage, you might enjoy "knowing" but what do I know?

Go see it, if only for the one scene that totally blew me away. I have to admit that the $15 I spent on the tickets and $5 popcorn for me and my date, it was worth it for that one 3 min. scene. I almost soiled my trousers! No spoilers from me!

I can see by your avatar you like indie films! I can't wait to see "No Country For Old Men"

I also wanted to add that I saw the movie "Das Leben der Anderen" a week ago.

www.imdb.com...

I lot of ATS users would really like this movie as it is about the Stasi in East Germany during 1984. The security forces are following and spying on all of its citizens. This movie is very engrossing, and it seems like it is not to far in our own future.

Basically, an officer with the Stasi starts to wonder why he does what he is doing. He notices the corruption of his superior officer and a minister, and it starts to take a toll on him. It shows a human side to the ones who did the spying, and was sympathetic to some of them. A powerful film, needed for our times. 10/10

K. You will like "No Country For Old Men" Keep your eyes peeled for a long, grey haired old hippie with a beard and cowboy hat in the bus station scene.

I was a driver/extra. Barely noticeable.

20 films and 4 TV shows in 15 months. Just as a lowly extra/driver/standin working for slightly over min. wage. No speaking parts except in pilots. Still having a ball just participating in this industry.
New Mexico is Tamalewood.
