I asked my friend in the military about this. He said most people in Iraq right now are reserves, and that the draft wouldn't come anytime soon, because basically they'll just call more reserves and/or extend the stay of most troops. As bad as things my get, remember how many full time soldiers we still have in america.

We also have the words of one senator, supposedly taken in context. You say the bill is before the senate? Well, bills are public domain, I'd like to see a link to the bill from a site with a ".gov" at the end of it. If you provide, I'll be writing to my two senators before I go to bed tonight.

You can sure as hell bet that there will be no draft before the election.

But I will bet you there will be a draft shortly after the election.

Not only that but the war on terrorism will expand into Syria and later Iran.

The war on terrorism will set the course. We will have little choise in this matter, and the fact is we are at or near the limit now, we will soon rotate troops, and be facing more conflicts and yes even more attacks.

I will go on record now as saying that there will be a military draft sometime in 2006.

And by then we will be fighting this war on as many as 4 fronts.

If there is a Draft Vote, trust me, it will be the biggest news story in the US. It will drown out everything in the media, save for the war in Iraq.

Just because a Senator mentions something, does not mean much until the Bill is presented to the Senate for actual voting.

I disagree! You can sure as hell bet that if we elect anyone, including the village idiot, in place of Dubya that there will be no draft because the will be no war. This war is being fought for OIL AND OIL ONLY . . . call it what you want patriot acts, weapons of mass destruction, war on terrorism, etc. etc.

We have already been rotating the troops. Since the beginning of this year, thousands of troops were rotated.

i dont see the military supporting a draft, if there is a draft they will have to divert funds from training, R&D, weapons, cut programs etc to be able to support more troops.

its not logical to even consider a draft, really it'll be a huge risk.

I disagree, Bush will be re-elected, although I think that is a mistake, and it will be because of Kerry's play on his own stupid actions in of all places the US Military!

Like it or not, the war on terrorism is what we are fighting now, and the enemy is growing.

America and UK should declare Defeat in Iraq and then offer Economic and Humanitarian Aid and allow the Regions in the Country to sort out their own affairs from the wreck they have been left with.

Hussain should be tried by an Iraqi Counsel (which IS Happening).

the American and British citizens should demand an Overhaul of the Democratic Process.

Fundamentalist Jihadic Muslims around the world should accept the defeat as a victory and go back to their lives and homes, rebuild their nations.

back up yor war crime claims, chaosica- because that is a hefty accusation to be making.

As for the draft, i doubt we'll see it reinstated anytime soon- as stated in some of the prior posts, a draft- and the subsequent training, wages, etc. that the military would have to pay for for each person drafted- would totally wipe out military budgets, and could eventually result in cuts of non-essential positions, which i'm sure Bush (and Kerry) know, and they want to avoid at all cost, since it wouldn't do much for their hopes to bolster the economy if the military starts losing positions.

I do think that there should be more incentives for people that would be of "drafting age" to join the military, or perform civilian services- i.e more financial aid for college or total payment of college costs, etc..

but i'll state it again... no draft anytime soon, IMO.

are you insane? it hasnt been lost, in most past wars it has been far worse and we've only had 3(war of 1812, vietnam and korea) stalemates out of all wars the US has been in, you can hardly call this losing.
