I tried to edit my first post about Powell might be endorsing but the edit button is missing.
Breaking news on CNN...
Colin Powell has endorsed Obama for President.
I do not have a link to an article yet, I will be looking for it.
As I asked in the other thread, what do you think this means for the 2 candidates?
FOX and CNN have said this would be fatal to McCain's campaign.

Here is the article from CNN, 4 minutes old...

Colin Powell endorses Obama

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell announced Sunday that he will be voting for Sen. Barack Obama, citing the Democrat's "ability to inspire" and the "inclusive nature of his campaign."
"He has both style and substance. I think he is a transformational figure," Powell said on NBC's "Meet the Press."
"Obama displayed a steadiness. Showed intellectual vigor. He has a definitive way of doing business that will do us well," Powell said.

Powell, a retired U.S. general and a Republican, was once seen as a possible presidential candidate himself.

Powell said he questioned Sen. John McCain's judgment in picking Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate because he doesn't think she is ready to be president.

He also said he was disappointed with some of McCain's campaign tactics, such as bringing up Obama's ties to former 1960s radical Bill Ayers.

Powell served as secretary of state under President Bush from 2001 to 2005.

Of course he did. There was never any doubt that he would.
I'm sure Dr. Rice will also be voting for Obama - even if she
doesn't admit to it outloud.

Edited out because it wasn't worth telling the truth...
at least not so early on a sunday morning ...
gotta have some coffee first.

Wait, are you saying Powell is endorsing him because he is black?
That is messed up on so many levels.
Colin Powell is a genius in my book, I seriously doubt that he is going to make a decision like that based on skin color.
So I guess the rest of the nation will vote McCain if they are white and Obama if black?
Who should the other races living in this country vote for? They are out of options huh?

In my opinion - ABSOLUTELY.

That is messed up on so many levels.

And you are welcome to that opinion.
It's wrong. But you are welcome to it.

I'm sure that there will be people who will flame and yell 'racist'.
Whatever. I am fully convinced that Powell is endorsing Obama
because he's black. I am not alone in this belief.

Yeah, Powell who WORKED FOR BUSH is only voting for Obama because of his race. Makes sense, I mean it's not like he's ever worked for a white guy before. Nope only black bosses.

Yeah I have got the edit button sorry buddy I was using it you can have it back in a minute.
I think its good Powell endorses Obama obviously what he went through working for Bush and Cheney was a nightmare enough.
He wants to steer way clear of those types of guys again I assume.

If Colin Powell is a genius he sure fooled us all by all by his accomplishments in the Bush Administration.

You are being sarcastic, but my response is - Definately.

Powell - who works for the republican administration and said that the republican party follows the way he feels America should be run - dumps all his beliefs in how America should be and runs to the black guy - who has values that are directly opposite of what Powell claims are his own.

The black guy - who wouldn't be able to get a security clearance if he was applying for a job at the FBI due to his connections with convicted fellons (Rezko) and international gun runners (Auchi) and weather underground terrorists (Ayers).

I'm sure someone will call me a bigot or racist for daring to say the obvious. I don't care. It's the truth.

Yeah, they're so sneaky after all... :shk:

Ugh! I can't believe this point of view! I mean, I know you hate Barack, but to say that prominent black Republicans are going to vote for Obama because of his race is ... Ugh!

On topic, Powell IS a brilliant and driven man!
I have always thought so. I'm thrilled that he has endorsed Obama and I believe his reasons. They're all true, after all.

Yeah, when Bush and Cheney gave him information they KNEW was false. When Bush and Cheney did every thing they could to destroy Powell's credibility. Powell thankfully got out of it before he could be completely destroyed.

Oh so it's Bush and Cheney's fault he did nothing in his role.

Thanks for the correction. Thank God for Colin Powell, he did so much when he was in the Administration and before that.

Ya .. that's the ticket.

I think you have it quite wrong. Powell did not abandon his belief in the way America should be run, the Republican party abandoned the beliefs he once believed in.

I take it your coffee wasn't black. No matter, Obama will win this election and you'll have to live through your worst nightmare. Forced abortion, evil socialist healthcare, an all gay military, a president that uses diplomacy, a new wing on the WhiteBlackhouse for Hamas, a black in power, a ban on speaking in tongues. It's gonna be a hoot.

:shk: right back atchya. ‘they’re so sneaky’? Trying to project that I claim black people are sneaky? That’s pathetic. Even for you.

It was reported this summer that Dr. Rice said in public that she wasn’t sure who she’d be voting for. And she said that she wouldn’t make it public, but would have her say in the ballot box.

Fox News Sunday

In Dr. Rice’s words – “Look, I’m the secretary of state, and as secretary of state, I think it’s a tradition that I’ll take a nonpartisan role here.
Everybody knows that I’m a Republican. Everybody also knows that I have great respect for our — for our political system, for the choices the American people will make. And as an American, will make my choice, like all Americans, at the ballot box. “

ABC News – paraphrase – Dr. Rice says she won’t be getting outwardly involved in pulling for anyone in the race.

NY Post Rice on Obama

to say that prominent black Republicans are going to vote for Obama because of his race is ... Ugh!

Obama gets 85-90% of the black vote nationwide.
Black politicians are just like everyone else.
UGH! Right back atchya.

Powell IS a brilliant and driven man!
I have always thought so.

Too bad the search button isn’t working. I’d looooooove to pull up some of the things you have said in the past about Powell and Dr. Rice.

I believe Colin Powel stood up like a good soldier and told the world what his President and commander in chief asked him to say even though behind the scenes Mr. Powel was against the Iraq war and against the way it was goingt to be waged.

In this case, serving at the Presidents pleasure was a flaw and also something Mr. Powel repeated multiple times during his time under Bush. His loyalty destroyed his credibility but at least you know you can trust him if he works for you. Putting the President above the country was his only fault. He really had no choice though. He could not have hardly refused to sell the weak intelligence to the world and resigned at that time in history.

I imagine he regrets having ever served under "W". I hope Obama makes him Secdef or something so he can show his true colors and be the man we all imagined him to be. It is obvious Powel is not Republican or Democrat at heart...never has been.

Yes Obama will win. Yes it will be a nightmare. NOT for the sarcastic reasons you gave. But because of this - Obamas own words

It's gonna be a hoot.

yeah, a real hoot.

I'm not sure what you mean by this, but I look forward to the search working again so you can let me know.

But let me be clear here. I do not "lump" Powell and Rice together simply because they happen to be of the same race.
I cannot stand Dr. Rice. I think she's as evil as she looks. I was disappointed and angry that Powell went along with Bush and Cheney's war, but as has been said, he was in a very difficult position. I do respect the fact that he got out and refused to continue the ruse. I have always respected him as a person and a leader.
