I believe the debates are closed pending judgment to prevent others chiming in their views. This prevents any unnecessary distractions for the judges who are in the midst of weighing their decisions.

Of course, I could be completely off base, in which case I can blame my overflowing cup of Irish coffee.

That's what I was thinking, too. Was hoping since only fighters can respond to this forum that we'd all know better than to respond to a debate before the judgments were in. Just curious either way. I went to subscribe to the current round tonight so I could catch up on my reading list but realized we can't subscribe to closed threads after the update. lol

Irish Coffee? That sounds good, a round for everyone.

Boy does that sound refreshing.

Sweetie, there's always a case of Bailey's with my name on it behind the bar. You are hereby granted an open invitation to help yourself to this honeyed exlir of life anytime the mood strikes your fancy.

Edit to add: TheMythLives, you are more than welcome to help yourself, too!

New Judgment In; Congrats To Both Fighters...

AshleyD...I suppose there is no real reason to keep them closed during the judgment process however it does make it easier for me to see the debates that are pending judgment when I skim the thread list page.

So as an organizational tool I am going to keep it but if you would like to subscribe et cetera to a closed thread I can temporarily open it if you u2u me...

Oh, so it's all about you and your needs.

Ok, then. I'd rather make it easier on you since you're the one doing all the work for us.

And pile on your already hectic work load?
I'm evil but not that evil. Thanks for being willing, though. That was very nice. I'll just scroll down the recent list and be sure to keep track of where I left off. Or be sure to be quicker and subscribe before they are closed and just read them when I can. lol

Why thank you Ian, that is very nice of you to say.

Wait a minute ... it turns out it wasn't a nice thing to say at all.

You guys need to know how my mind works.

It automatically assumes the worst. I now have mental images that I'll never, ever be able to get rid of.

I think S-Dog counts on it...:shk:

So we are to the point where we should start discussing the beginning of Round Three. When would the participants like for this to occur?

I was thinking a day or two after the last judgment is in which puts us at Wednesday - Friday...

And we have some incredible match-ups coming up with a few hardcore win streaks on the line...this is where the serious get serious about their bid for the banner and the rest of us gawk in amazement...

There are some fantastic logic strand possibilities for that debate.

I'm very interested to see how it goes.

Would have been nice to have a tournament debate subject like that!

Speaking of the tournament, I now officially have no fingernails left- all bitten off in nervous anticipation. Considering the time, Im guessing the judges are split on the verdict and that it's gone to the third judge?

*sigh*

Why did writing to a word limit in University cause me no end of grief trying to get enough words to come close to the limit, whilst when writing for these debates I find my self passing the character limit too soon?

I'm up to 8,500 characters already with lots more to say and all I've said so far is vital!

I shall have to edit, and parting with such sweet words is sorrow.

They say that editing down any piece of writing is like concentrating a soup... more taste, less space.

For graded essays I used to go through them and edit properly, but with a debate I find its usually easier to just cut entire paragraphs of your weakest points.
