Ever see a Harrier, They do it all the time. Its called Viffing. They slam the ducted thrust full forward. It flips the plane 180 degrees and it goes the other direction.

are you people so dillusional now that airplanes are no longer allowed to fly without you thinking that the government is up to some sort of conspiracy? i am stationed in fort sill oklahoma (about an hour west of oklahoma city) there are fighters in the sky on almost a daily basis and fort sill is not even an airforce base. it's A TRAINING EXCERCISE!!! there are two AFB within 100 miles of OKC Shepperd AFB in Wichita Falls, Texas. And Altus AFB in Altus, Oklahoma. you all need to stop filling your minds with stupid conspiracy thoughts. and yes that braking sound is quite common especially in the newer aircraft. the brakes are used for the aircraft to make tight maneuvers vertically and horizontally

I am agreeing with Sublime on this one. If the OP had said that it was a planet landing in his yard or an alien farting plutonium you all would be freaking out and calling it the end of the world and how to avoid it you will project yourself onto another plane.
The OP saw some odd activity and posted about it. I'll have to admit I have seen some rather odd air traffic where I live for about 6 months or so. When you live somewhere long enough you learn the norm and when something is outside the norm. We have been seeing a considerable amount of military helicopters flying overhead very low and very fast for the past six months or so. I live in a small town and that is not normal. The Guard base here told us that they were informed that the Army is doing a sweep of the area and that is all they know.
Ya can't deny alot of oddities here lately.

Last I checked, this site was comprised entirley of "what-if?" and other hypothetical or unproven topics/scenarios. I suppose that ATS is a very apt name. If everything discussed were proven, disclosed, mundane, they would call it "Therearenosecretsdummy.com or tansdy ".

It is a forum for the questioning mind basically.

Instead of bashing someone for wondering if the earth could be round or could a horseless carriage ever be possible, wander over to that website "everythingyoureallyshouldknowbutweretoobrainwashedtoask.com"

Nothing should be deemed off topic if there is sincerity in the question or concern.

Thanks for the topic and keep them coming. Let's see how far down this rabbit-hole goes.

What does being delusional have to do with anything? I've grown up on or around bases my whole life; as such I am accustomed to the 'going ons' around it. But that doesn't mean I know what they are doing or if they are or are not responding to anything. The OP noticed something he thought was out of the ordinary and posted for input. I'm scratching my head like several others here wondering why all the evil forum trolls have come out.

AND I do not think the OP is out of place suggesting a link to a 'situation-x' conspiracy.

The other day leaving work (near fort drum) there was a huge army convoy headed south on the interstate. I've seen a few small ones, but not one that big before. It caught my attention. And I will openly admit that all kinds of ideas ran through my mind on the way home, and I was trying to inspect the vehicles as much as possible to see what was being moved. Was it a conspiracy, nope. Just an exercise I'm sure. But what if later I started hearing of more news, or read on hear about a whole bunch of stuff, other movements and such. Maybe it ALL would have added up to something, or at least give reason to be more alert for anything.

Anywho, if people want to flame people for posting, go flame the "I am the one ask me anything" threads.

Nothing but decent posts by alert members here..move along please

I'm not here to flame anybody...just to comment on this subject.

I'm an Air Force Veteran and flyer.

Just to clear things up, a fighter using their speed brake does not make a perceptible sound on the ground for you to hear. Also, a larger aircraft using thrust reversers or spoilers in the air doesn't make a perceptible sound on the ground either. These are just things that help the airplane slow down and increase drag so that they can lose sufficient altitude to make the proper approach to the active runway. We call it, "Get down, slow down, gear down."

One thing that may actually produce an audible sound is called "torching". Torching is when a fighter dumps fuel from its dump mast and then lights its afterburners. This ignites the fuel immediately behind the airplane and may allow you to hear the sound from the ground. It sounds like a loud pop.

Airplanes sometimes have to dump fuel if they are about to land heavier than they want to. They sometimes have to dump fuel in order to comply with their maximum landing weight as described in the Dash-1 of that particular airplane.

You may find some cool photos of the F-111 torching its fuel if you Google it. It looks pretty neat.

Interesting to note that a lot of the regular posters have stopped posting on this thread due to the fact of many mixed facts and posts.

Thanks for your post Loadmaster and believe me when I say it would be great to have you on this forum and that a lot of the posters in the aviation thread that are regulars (of which many of these aren't) can be much more civil.

a lot of what you posted is true LM but I must disagree about noise creation of planes with air brakes/spoilers and so on. Many times have I heard a change in the tone/range to a much more for the lack of better term whooshing sound when these are deployed. Now if the OP is saying this plane was at altitude when this was heard I would agree with you that a brake couldn't be heard. But as others have said if this was a scrambling of the fighter or high speed exercise then it is highly likely that it could be the sound of the burners igniting.

Just my 2 cents and really due to the muddled nature of the posts all I can say.

Try trolling some where else please. I saw a fighter do something completely weird, I was alerting other ATS members to that fact incase it had to do with any excesises(sp?) at the current moment. Your comment is not useful here.

Thank you to the other members that saw what I was trying to get at. I think you also see that if I said the craft was chasing a UFO none of the trolling would have happend. Im in OKC A LOT, I have never seen a fighter over OKC. Im sure they have flown over but none have ever grabbed my attention. If you cannot grasp that simple point please dont post. You are only trolling.

As to another post was a it a power failure? I cannot say, anyones guess is just as factual as mine. I was standing next to a man that used to deal with planes all day long on a carrier that called me outside because it freaked him out. He went into explaining about how dangerous it was to use that brake at that speed. Seeing how I pointed that out in the begining you guys should believe me.

Now we have other people on this very thread stating they saw fighters over their cities for the first time on the same day. This does not mean they were chasing UFOs. This simply means be aware of what we are saying. If it has nothing to do with anything, so what? You were aware. My point is to alert other ATS members in the case of having any wiff of a situationX, up and coming so that ATS can protect its family members and be prepared.

I can only hope other ATS members will do the same and not fear the scrutiny. I have other information to release when I can that doesnt have to do with this that is classified pertaining to the CIA. I will do my best to help the ATS community regardless of the trolls and I can only hope the mods will handle them.

You do not make people feel welcome by shooting them down.

I must thank you for your post, you saw what I was trying to get at. I am expecting situationX any day now. Two people down someone flat out said the guy stating he was (airforce) was wrong about air brakes making noise. I mean damn I didnt come on here saying I was an expert and all these "experts" pop up that are clearly NOT experts jesus already.

You saw a convoy and you were stunned temporarily. Ive done the same. I would alert people to such if I was expecting situationX. I am glad you see the conspiracy angle and that this has nothing to do with a planet farting plutonium lol.

This forum is about conspiracies. I feel most people here believe in situationX and know its coming. Thank you for renewing my spirit sir.
