Hang on, I'll repeat:
The government of Iran is democratically elected.

In the true sense of the word.

Yes, it absolutely is. Very fair and honest elections that they have in Iran.

Analysis: Corruption Becomes An Issue In Iran's Presidential Campaign

Corruption is not merely a word for candidates to throw around during their campaigns. Iran is rampantly corrupt, according to Transparency International's most recent report (www.transparency.org...). That survey placed Iran 87th of 145 countries in terms of the degree of corruption "as seen by business people and country analysts." Iran ranked 2.9 on a scale from 10 (highly clean) to zero (highly corrupt).

www.rferl.org...

After the ruling council disqualifies thousands of candidates, and all women candidates, and anyone not a member of the inner clique, then

The government of Iran is democratically elected.

That has got to be the most naive statement I've ever seen on ATS.

They must be planning on doing this thing so that Iran can't fight back AT ALL. Anything else is absolute madness.

They know that Iran can hold their own in a fight over there. They also know that they'll have a big problem on their hands if Russia and China get involved.

Knock em' out quickly, and Russia/China won't have anyone to help. In order to do this, they'd have to annihilate Iran completely.

Throughout history, like it or not, god has blessed israel (his chosen people).
They fought giants, fought babylon, got conquered by rome.. (bad year, lol) They fought the 60 day war and nearly went into egypt while being outnumbered 50 to 1, If not stopped by the US, they would be even more dominant nation. Even sucked in the pride and handed the temple mount over to the muslims to avoid more strife. I dont think, a country with this history, will sit on its laurals (spelling bad sorry), and wait for the iran nuclear program to pump out nuclear warheads with the potential to bring about the end of the entire world. Israel has the best intel agency in the world next to MI5 and they have ALOT to lose if this thing goes. My theory is to watch them closely, if they know a nuke is in progress, they will strike. If no nuke or potential nuke, they wont.

something needs to be done about them getting into iraq and causing trouble.

they need a better border patrol, heh so do we.

if iran's leader has the power to stop these evil guys from entering iraq and fails to do so,i would fire a single missile and destroy one of his properties.ask him again..blow something else up until he does.

unfortunatly some middle eastern peoples only respect power...i mean what else can you do? they are so far into the stone age with their thinking

ofcourse i would try to be civilized first, but what can you do if that doesnt work?

First of all, we now have 2 carrier FORCES in the region. This includes Destroyers for screening and protection, Aegis Cruisers for added defense and surgical counterstrikes, as well as some small packet boats to carry Naval forces to any shore in advance of a Marine landing. So we have about 12 to 14 SHIPS in the region, but not Carriers.

Secondly, we're being "built up" for a surgical strike on selected targets such as the Iranian nuclear facilities and non-nuclear weapons depots. I don't think we'll be foolish enough to "invade".

Third, this is good sabre-rattling. Bush and his successor can still go to the UN and call for tougher sanctions and a diplomatic deal with Russia to curb Iranian expansionism. Once we start a pull-out or draw down of forces in Iraq, all the Iranian arguments against "US expansionism" go out the window and the government is left with egg on its beard.

Fourth, we're trying to stop Iranian guerilla forces that Iraqis clearly don't want. Once any counterstrike in Iran is carried off, the Iranian militias will have to stop and rethink their objectives. The insurgency will diminish enough for the Iraqis to get some kind of handle on them and allow us to draw down even furthur.

Last but not least, we need to be fighting their ideologue with counter-ideologue. Fight ideas and propaganda with the same, letting the Iraqis form the manpower needed to counter the sporadic insurgency. Sadly Bush and probably McCain won't do this, so it'll be up to the next President to come up with these plans.

I just go to bed praying for my brothers and sisters in arms; that God will keep them safe; that he'll guide their hands; and, that he'll lead our military leaders to the greatest effective use of their minds and manpower.

Like it or not, at this stage in history the USA is the most dominant nation in the world. Seeing as how the U.S. is made up of people and cultures from all over the globe, it would seem "God" prefer we all mingle and stop fighting.

Do some research and then tell me that the last elections in your country were whiter than white.

For the biblical amongst us " let he who is without sin, cast the first stone"

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not a religious nutter.

But that seems a particularly apt saying.

It is not about Guns.
It is not even about Iran.
It is not about Oil.
It is indirectly about China.
It is directly about the value of the dollar.

If you read the article they say how Iran is pushing the world to dump the dollar for a basket of currency from around the globe.

If Oil is no longer traded in dollars, our dollar value is re-evaluated for it's current worth, which is currently the oil standard which replaced the gold standard. Maybe that is replaced by the Coca Cola standard, which in my humble opinion is the second thing most of the world can relate the currency to.

If that is the case, Coke prices world wide go sky high when measured in renminbi (Chinese), and are chump change in U.S. Dollars. A fifty buys a coke, and hundred will get you a cheeseburger. You can exchange a thousand for one renminbi.

Truth is that the US is borrowing from China. China is the new big player in the world of finance. If the world dumps the dollar for the "renminbi" then China becomes the world's foremost superpower, in every sense. The U.S. falls into obscurity like the U.S.S.R.

OK, I have one question, how do you put that down with a bullet?

I would like to add something to what dirkboy said.

In the book of Daniel, there is a prophecy about Syria. It mentioned that there would be fire, and ice mixed with blood falling from the sky.

This one event would be the end of Demascus specifically. The oldest city in the world was predicted to be destroyed by what I think could only be a nuclear device.

Revelation also mentions that Iran will become very close with Russia. And that both would lead a coalition to destroy Israel. It makes no mention of intervention by any other nation.
Which would only mean that the United States would not try to save Israel in this instance.

Based on these prophecies, I would guess that we will not actually go to a real war with Iran. And Israel will not be nuked by Iranian warheads.

I believe this because I trust in those prophecies, and my interpretation of them.

Yeah thats what we call corporate propaganda plain and simple.

Iran has done nothing that the United States of America hasn't already done repeatedly. The only reason there is and would be war is for oil and money.

Oil companies are now making record profits ie Shell 9 Billion?!!
While we are here giving them all of our money like slaves
We are slaves to government and slaves to oil and money
And that every single one of you!!

I can't take this no more, who's with me??!!

We have not been put on this planet to kill people that have NEVER done anything to US, yet that is what we are doing

Why is the enemy one we will never find? A never ending story
We let it happen subconsciously, we are manipulated and controlled to play in with the game of war and profit.

Don't support this, we profit zero from this, we are real slaves!

Peace

There is one thing you can be sure off, Iran will put up one hell of a better fight than the Iraqi's did. They are better prepared and better armed than Iraq, they got a bigger Army and a people that hates american(s) more than anything. So be sure, pick a fight with them and you'll not pick a fight with another nations. Oh wait, thats right, you'll do it the cowards way from the Air.

while i agree there is not much honor in bombing outright
but keep in mind this is modern warfare, the American soldiers would rather the bombers take out the enemy then the soldiers them selfs having to go in and clear them out
this way less soldiers die more enemy dies and its more effective

Fact...Iran is arming militia killing US troops

Fact...Iran is working on building a nuke

Fact...Iran has said many times it wants to destroy Israel

Fact...Iran Revolutionary Guard is harassing US ships

Fact...Iran is surrounded right now on 3 sides by US military

Iran is begging for the US to bitch slap them with precision air strikes. I am suprised we have waited this long. I think that a 72 hour air campaign will bring Iran down. The young kids in Iran want to live in a western culture, and they have the money too. If we knock the current gov of Iran out the people of that country will do the rest. People dont give as much of a crap about Allah over there as they do Audi.
Remember that they are not Arab......They are Persian...Lots of pride, and little time left for the Arab Islamic fundamentalist..The Young people want Levis, rap music, and drugs. Just like all college kids.

Why not from the air.....At least we can build modern aircraft and weapons. There is no such thing as a fair fight. If you came to fight fair, you came too loose. Our planes and precision UAVs will have Iran's leaders running for their lives...which we here in the USA love to watch during dinner time. Those black and white videos of bombs taking out bridges and dirt huts prob get better ratings than American Idol

"Cowards way from the Air" Spoken from someone that's never seen AAA fired at them from the air. It's not like "Call to Duty" in your mom's basement.

And since when is that the "cowards way"? When you go to war, there are no half measures; that just doesn't make any sense.

And I'm not even going to address the "....and you'll not pick a fight with another nation" comment.

The topic was Iranian elections, in case you forgot.

That's surprising in itself, seeing how your generation sinned by allowing a once great nation to deteriorate into an emasculated socialistic police state. Wouldn't blame you a bit for getting yourself some good old fashioned religion.

So now the BS reason is that Iran is responsible for the crash of the US dollar? Are you kidding? Iran has really become the modern era jew.

The crash of the US dollar is due to a lot of factors, mostly the FEDs cutting interest rates and giving loans to everyone, NAFTA, open borders, no illegal immigration laws being passed to punish those who hired them, no-bid contracts, the Iraq war, the Pentagon 3 trillions $ missing on september 10,2001, the fed chairmans saying to the foreign government to drop the dollar, helicopter Bernanke printing MASSIVE amounts of money, devaluating it.

Sorry, Iran is not the cause of the crash of the dollar, your filthy government is.
