to the sardines
1/10

I had this Cuban sandwich the other day at a Shari's & it was really very yummy.

Chibata (sp?) bread, pulled pork, ham, swiss cheese, dill pickles and a mayo/mustard combo mixed together. I thought it was really good

To make a REAL Cuban sandwich:

French bread
roast pork
ham
picke slices
mayonaise
swiss cheese

But, the most important thing is to grill the entire sandwich in a George Forman or press down on it and stick it in the oven!!!!

Better than sex.

Dg, that sounds so good! I haven't had a really good Cuban (the sandwich
) since before Katrina. Then the place closed that used to make them, and I found a few others, but they didn't compare.

Now that I have the ingredients from you, I am going to the grocery store tonight to get everything I need.

Better then sex, eh?

As soon as I remember, I'll let you know.

10/10

Yep...it sounds like mayo and mustard mixed together to me....mayo & mustard are very popular here

Thanks zanzibar

Yep dg...it was a pork roast....they called it "pulled pork" on the menu. That was so good...but I could only eat half of it....it was quite the sandwich...or as my cuban friend says...."sangwich"
I always tease her about that

Yes, it is a Sangwish!!!! Not to be confused with sandwiches. ugh.

I'm glad you had the experience, or is that sperience?

Cubans, muffaletta, and Po Boys are all 10's for me.

A plain fried bologna on wheat toast with mustard used to be a favorite and a staple, but I don't eat bologna anymore.

Here's one my sister invented when we were kids and raiding the pantry:

Canned corned beef on a toasted egg bagel with Miracle Whip and thin slices of Claussen garlic dill pickle.

Has to be Claussen and has to be Miracle Whip (for the zip).

Are you talking about the cuban sandwich or sex?

Or is a cuban sandwich having sex with two cubans?

Here's one:

Proscuitto &
Provolone
on semolina bread

What? Who? Well, I know what semolina bread is, so I'll give you 3/10 for that. I'm guessing it's some kind of sausage meat?

-----------------------------
Wholemeal bread
Tomato paste
Really, really strong cheese

mmmmm sounds pretty darn good jen, but I'm not a big fan of sausage in my sammiches so i give it a 7

A generous amount of roast beef, thinly sliced and warmed IN a lil dijon mayo with melted baby swiss cheese layered on top and served on a lightly buttered and toasted steak roll/sub

mmmmmmmmmm *drools a lil*

I give that a definite 10 out a 10 (my mouth is already watering)

Now.

For a pizza bread built West Virginia style!!!

-------
one foot long french bread roll cut right in half down the center and lightly buttered.
pizza sauce(Ragu or the store brand)
mozzarella cheese
cheddar cheese
thinly sliced Virginia Smokehouse ham
bacon bits or fully cooked bacon slices
cooked sausage pieces
some Bell-View banana peppers
sliced mushrooms
provolone cheese on the bottom (may substitute mozzarella cheese)
top it all off with a golden brown crust of grated cheddar cheese
highlight with some potato chips
finish it all off with a 20 ounce Cherry Coke.

-------

Not to offend, but I give that a 2 outta 10. Too pretensious, and lacking in clarity. Provolone OR mozzeralla? Those are radically different cheeses. I'm sure that you are thinking of slicing mozzeralla too, but you should've clarified anyway, that samich would be pretty different if you use slicing mozzeralla or fresh mozzeralla, straight outta the water buffalo's teats. Delicious.

Also, ragu?
Heck, the fact that you called its 'pizza sauce' was distressing in and of itself.

For Zanzibar, proscuitto is a heavily salted, dry, fatty, ham. Its wonderful.

On a samich, or even just wrapped around some melon.

Or heck just on its own!

Ok, so since we have some samich neophites here, lets try a variation on a familiar classic:

------
muenster cheese
white cheddar cheese
white bread

small amount of butter spread on both slices of bread, pan fried until golden and crispy
--------

You can;t beat a high-end grilled cheese..9 outta 10..
IF, you spead a little brown mustard on the outside, with the butter, make it pretty awesome too!

Pumpernikel
thinly sliced ham
Swiss cheese
VERY ripe, sliced tomato.
Miracle whip (a little)
Mayo (more than a little)

ham, then cheese, then tomato, put the mayo on both sides, and Miracle whip on the topside. Fresh ground pepper on the spread, and Fresh ground sea salt on the tomato.

Close sandwich, open mouth.
