I think it has nothing to do with Stranger in a Strange Land

it is to humans... ?

What is it?
What is it to humans?
Why say humans and not man or mankind?
What lends itself to humans?
What is obviously human?
What defines a human?

I just searched ATS for grok. From the beginning. Most of the posts are from this thread. There's a few others in there but then there's this

A post by Byrd, which does not contain the word grok?

perhaps I'm missing something here. Anyone want to skim the short post for me and see if I am blind?

That's a single post from the thread. And it has "grok" in the quoted part from the other member.

Do you know how spiders find new pages? Is just chance by following links? Or do they some how grok the server directory structure and/or get a listing in some manner? Or both?
