If I had an AA-7 lock, I would have taken the shot. Less risk of not getting tally of the target, plus you can stay hot and follow up with the heater shots if needed after that. However, it's your story. Can you answer my other questions please so I can better understand the tactical picture.

Hmm, Iraqi Fighter Pilot appears to have disappeared. I'm still keen for a response if you'll give one. I'm very interested in how you prosecuted the engagement.

I think it could be because this was moved from weaps to here recently.
Maybe he would check the weaps forum to look for this?
For all you know, he may be puzzled to not find the thread there at all now!
Maybe you should send him a U2U Willard.

Hang on, why has this been moved to BTS? The thread has more merit than a lot of the topics that appear on the weapon forum, especially given the recent turn regarding the MiG-25 engagement. I would have thought moved to the Aircraft Forum, but BTS? Strange decision.

i am here,,when the no fly zones were created sa-2 sites inside and around baghdad are still active and because an americans rarely fly single without backup i was convinced so as the controller that this target was not alone and radar jamming should be active,,,i was ordered to and rightfully so when your up against the american airforce to use IR,,Aphid was the correct choice plus i was too close,,thanks
p.s by the way i dont need to prove who i am the americans know me and was interviewd by the american military in 2003 and know who i am and what i fly..

Hi IFP (if I may abbreviate!).

I've created a thread back on ATS based on your account. It is off topic to the current thread, and considerably more interesting! If you follow the link below, it will take you there. I'll cut across your last post here so that the members can follow the trail. Hope this is okay.

Also, I've sent you a couple of u2us (kinda of like an e-mail, but just for ATS). You should see a red button at the top of the page. If you click on this, it will take you to your inbox. Thanks,

Willard

a reply to: emile

"Russian also admited capability of MiG-21 in mid or lower air even inferior than MiG-19. "

That's nothing to be ashamed of. MiG-17/19 were devoted gunfighters and also the last and the best of the gunfight era. The Fishbed did not come much later and even though its primary role was that of a missile-armed interceptor it filled MiG-19's Phantom-outmaneuverer niche more than decently.
