I used to try to oppose such things as this but after a discussion that opened my eyes I realized its just easier to step back, take a deep breath and let it happen because its going to happen wether we let it or not. We don't have the power to effect the necessary change so why wind up dead, in jail, or out of a job for speaking your mind when its easier to shut up?

I'm not asking people who oppose the governments actions to keep quiet. I'm asking for ideas on how can we stop any future attacks from happening.

I've always heard that when good men do nothing, evil will prevail.

I'm about ready to change that to "When good men do nothing, they get killed, along with their families, by terrorists who seek our lives."

I'd like to know something from everyone that criticizes the government for doing what it takes to thwart any potential attacks on American citizens and American interests!

How would you go about gathering intelligence that may lead to the arrest/capture of potential terrorists that may be operating within our borders?

All I read and hear is how sorry the Bush administration is for "stomping" on our rights and that they're actions are unconstitutional.

Please. I'd like to read some ideas on solutions of how to stop the next attack. You know that our enemies are planning them. What can we do to stop them? There are a lot of bright people in these forums. Let's hear some ideas.

My solution you may ask? Exactly what the government is doing right now, so how about put up or stand aside and let the authorities go about what they're doing.

Any ideas people on how to stop the next attack? You know it's coming. What's your solution on how to catch the perpetrators?

I'm waiting!

ummm....they could start by putting some restrictions when it comes to these potential terrorists entering our country, and some more maybe on just who should be attending our colleges and universities.....a former spokeman for the taliban, no studying at havard was it??? come on!!!

they seem to be all gun hoe when it comes to taking away americans rights....but a little squeemish when it comes to taking away from the potential terrorists things that they don't really have any legal right to! like enty into our country to begin with and well, education at our universities. I find it hard to take them seriously about the first (our privacy needs to be compromised), until they take the latter seriously.....they need to do something in an attempt to quite empowering these people via easy entry into our country and easy education to know how to build that nice nuke, biological weapon, or whatever!

Are you suggesting that the biggest threat to this government is from it's own citizens? Because that's how it looks to me when a government practises secret surveillence of domestic communications, but refuses to tighten border security.

Most of the perpetrators of 9/11 were known to the intelligence community, they just didn't act to prevent it happening. Now we're supposed to give up all of our privacy so our government can collect more intelligence that won't be acted on?

Good solution..

You want to know how to stop the attacks?

Stop the warmongering. Stop the invasions and occupations. Stop selling all the weapons to the rest of the world. Give only humanitarian aid. Give the Palestinians equal support for taking political instead of military action. Show the world how to seek peace. Lead the way. Rein in the voracious globalization of the corporate conglomerates. Act with conscience before its too late to act at all from the rubble of a failed republic with delusions of global grandeur.

See to the needs of the widowed, judge the fatherless, minister to the poor.

It's just another brick in the totaltarian wall. They came in with a lie, the election of 2000, and they have not stopped lying since. This is not the definative list but what haven't they lied about?
1. Did not release notes from the energy meeting headed up by VP and Kenny (boy) Lay, first time ever not to let notes become public. Federal court said OK.
2. Revovling door between Govt & Big business. Cheney-Halliburton, Rumfeld-Drug Co, Bush-Harken, Arbusto Bush I Carlye.
3. Pentagon Data file on all 16-25 year olds. Part of no child laft behind, from war apparently
4. WMD
5y. Niger yellow cake
6. Outing of an active CIA agent(capital offence) Oh by the way I declassified that info a long time ago. Courts, Courts, I don't need no stinking courts.
7. The old switch eru Printed up the Act knowm as Patriot at 3:00 am, after some addition and corrections that had never been approved.
8. No bid contracts to my former company Halliburton that went through the VP office. I dont own. stock in Hal no but those options are looking good right now . Add war profiteering.
9. Overcharges by Hal steeling property losing property and charging $45 for a case of soda and although the people trying to hold the corps accoutable were on the job those up the line do NOTHING. Kind of like on 9/11!
10. Using 2 American heros for publicity, Jessica Lynch and Pat Tilman in both cases stories were fabricated lies were told.
11. Downing Street Memo Proved again we were lied to. The facts were changed to fit the desired outcome.
12.Taxpayers pay for propaganda-A. paid news people to show Govt in a positive light(Armstrong) B Allowed a gay male escort into the White House briefing room to lob east questions to GW so he could answer them (w/o the ear piece) C Paid to produce news segments ie govt propaganda and then passed them off as news with the aid of the news shows themselves. D paid to have articles written in Iraq by military, then translated into farsi and had cooperating Iraqi newpaper publish them as true. What is true whatever they tell us. How much did they spend millions. Thay hired an add agency.
13. Torture-we dont torture pictures Abu Graib we only torture to save lives? It was unauthorized actually it was Lindy's idea.
14. Rendering prisoners to countries were tortur is legal.
15. Having prisons runby the Cia in European countries.
16. Using white phosphorous in Fallujah( a real WMD)
17. Illegal wire taps.
18. Collecting personal private information on Americans from ATT(let's boycott) Verizon etc. Google held out and the courts suppoted crime once again.
19. Miller & Novak tools of the Govt & industry too.
20. Abramoff illegal bribery accepted by govt officials from both sides.(time for a 3rd party?)
21. Continued use of depleted Uranium in ammo, hurting the Iraqi's and us troops indisriminatly.
22. Inciting the violence in Iraq, 2 British Special ops guys caught dressed as Arab with a car full of explosives( car bomb) headed to the most densely populated part of Bagdad caught by Iraqi's put in jail . That night 10 Brit tanks and ,\many soldiers broke them out. They were immediately sent back to GB. Strategy to inflame sectarian violence.
23. Have built 14 permanent basis in Iraq complete with McD's Kentucy fried etc. Why If we're pulling out ASAP?
24. Murder by US mercenaries, filmed by the BBC. Simple murder of Iraq civilian( will provide link later, but it aint pretty.)
25. Check out Afghan Massacre as well, a video of our troops with the Northern coalition. Maybe we were just putting holes in the box cars so they could breath, but they were inthe boxcars. www.democracynow.org...
This is just a short list and most of it in the last 3 years.
IF THERE WAS ANYTHING aMERICA LEARNED FROM WWII it was that you can't appease a dictator. The same goes for an insane oligarc.hy

You have to admit that as extreme as terrorists are, it was never anticipated that airliners would be hi-jacked and then ran into buildings for their extremist cause.

I'll admit that there was intelligence floating around about the possibilty of such an attack, but then you have hundreds of threats everyday that never amount to anything more than running off at the mouth.

Now that we know that these extremists will stop at nothing to commit murder, we can't take threats lightly anymore.

These extremists agenda is to not only kill and maim as many Americans as possible but to cripple our economy so that we may drop from our status as a world superpower.

We just can't allow or afford this to happen.
