Agreed worldwatcher.

But ECK will soon find this out.

How about a general cleanup or re-cleanup of PTS [resort through topics, etc.]
Crack down more on the abusive nature of PTS, etc.

More later on.

That needs to be done. I still like the stripper idea.

I think we need to make certain topics be placed in the right area I also think we need to "define" what certain things are. I've noticed that people tend to post things on National Socialism (Nazi Party) in other ideologies when National Socialism is nearer to Socialism then Communism is. (By a long shot.)

I also have articles written up on defining what Socialism, Anarchy, Communism, Marxism, etc, all are as politics and law are my majors at University as well as a "spider" diagram linking all the different forms of Socialism, etc, together and I think that might help somewhat. ATS should be about learning first (as far as I'm concerned) and i think that might help people to learn what things are as most have no idea what Communism, Socialism, Marxism, etc all really are.

well even though I don't like the idea, I'll support the idea of evening out the point system between ATS and PTS if it will allow PTS to flourish.

you guys are right though, upon review it does look like points play a larger role here than i thought it did.

upon further thinking "It might", but I too am not fond of the idea of points being the source of why members chose to post in a forum.

Isn't this whole election thing supposed to be about coming up with ideas to better ATS and its umbrella forums? I think so. I'm just kicking around ideas. This is one that has kept coming back to me. My two cents as a representative is that it is worth a try, at least. (Equalization) If it turns out not being an issue, than I accept full responsibility and support whatever measures come from the experiment.

Thx for your input and help, too, WW.

If people are really interested in politics, then it really shouldn't be an issue, but I guess "some" members are shallower than I thought if it is points that stop them posting on PTS.

I think some are. I have been maligned from time to time over members who actually are that petty. My proposal is about incentives. If some people are incentive driven here, than maybe they would contribute more (in politix). Let's givit a try.

I have another idea.. if a member feels like a WATS vote doesn't suffice, I think we should have some kind of way to offer a how of support in the transfer of points (to another member). That would be cool. It should be anonomous, of course. It's like how moderators sometimes anonomously give applause. I wish we members could, too.

As for members not able to be civil in their political discussions or resorting to flame wars, well that imo is easily solved, same way it is on ATS with warns from Moderators and bans if the warns continue to add up with members unwilling to treat each other with respect.

Will we council members have the ability/authority to issue warnings in our own forums? I think we should. I also think we should never abuse that in any way and I would adhere to a strict aderence to that by the MOD GODS.

Odium why don't post your articles defining the different "isms", maybe a mods from each forum can sticky them to the top.

ECK maybe clearer definitions of each forum category on PTS?

Also how about moving US News Discussion and Global News Discussion from BTS to PTS, keep the serious stuff together??? especially if a point change system is being considered, it will also help clarify the "other Current Events" foum on ATS, and again members won't cry "censorship" when a Mod moves a news thread from ATS to either of those forums.

And they should be cracked down on also, IMHO.
This should have been done from the get-go.

There simply is no reason in my eyes for such type points 'bragging' threads. No pun intended, but they are pointless.

They're on my College machine, so I won't be able to get to them till Thursday but I will do and then I will post them up. I'd much rather have them stuck and locked as well just so people can "read" what they actually are and then post throughout the forum because I find it a joke to see articles on National Socialism and Communism, etc, in the wrong areas and it can't really help the forum much.

Also if people are able to see what an ideology is then it might help them some what. I've noticed a lot of people love to shout "Communist" at someone who is not as "Right-wing" as they are without knowing what a Communist is.

Sounds like ODIUM could be a real leader in the instruction of various political systems. God knows we Americans would do well to learn more about that.

Good thought.

Excellent idea!
Those would be excellent first steps. PTS would definitely be more active if that happened. BTS should be all about goofin off and discussing all non-related political/war stuff. Leave the serious stuff to ATS and PTS. Wouldn't that make things easier on our BTS counterparts, also?

If the forums were equal, I think the cries of censorship would greatly diminish.

When you do post them up, let the respective forum mods know so they can review them and/or sticky them up [top them].

I think the only way the PTS is going to grow is for the points to be equal, its not like to topics on the ATS are more important, just diffrent.

I think it should be level across ATS, PTS but not BTS. I really don't see much point in BTS myself except as a "mess about" forum. PTS should keep to the majority of the politics and ATS to the conspiracy, Paranormal Studies, etc, etc.

I also think PTS should have its own debate forum; so we can have teams of liberal, conservatives, etc, who can go "head to head" on issues. Which I think would be a good idea.

As well as I think the War on Terror should mostly be in PTS and not ATS as most of that isn't "conspiracy" related. Same goes for Peak Oil in my view (but not so much as the War on Terror).

I would also not mind a "research" forum for the PTS part as well; if people wish to look into politicsl theories or get together to work on their own ideology.

Know The Score

Scoring forum posts differently, by definition, assigns them different values.

I am quite confident that member attitudes about the politicized forums on ATS are reflections of the staff attitudes toward them.

In my opinion, all forums which address political issues should be moved to PTS, which would eliminate both confusion and the perceived disparity between the political forums on ATS versus the political forums on PTS.

We can try to “crack down” on members, but I consider such an approach to be potentially disastrous and tough on moderators.

Rather, I recommend shaping the forums so that members will tend to naturally post what should be posted there.

We have a political sub-board in the form of PTS, so why not move our politics to it?

As far as I'm concerned, politics is as legitimate a topic for discussion in our community as anything else.

So rather than complaining about it, let's put politics in its proper place, and move all of our political forums to it.

My opinion. Yours may vary.

Xcellent ideas and input! Especially about the research forum.

Thanks for your time, ODIUM.

I think the debate one would be the best, we all known who is right-wing and left-wing and we have a few people in the middle (like me) and I reckon that could be some really fun times.

Take something like: abortion for instance, a lot of people (nearly everyone) has views on it. So I think splitting them up, allowing them to "take it in turn" to post a "discussion" on it along with "pros" and "cons" could help the place a lot instead of the normal "rude" posts that seem to flow in such "debates" which can't help this place grow.

An' it's no problem, I try to do my bit. I think I should be President of ATS.
