Part of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed. Interesting symbolism. FSK is author of the text of the U.S. national anthem, "The Star-Spangled Banner". Intentional incident?

Was the pilot drunk? How the hell did they ram straight into a bridge support? Way off course

Might be a good idea to hold off on such thoughts during the rescue amigo?

Lets focus our thoughts and prayers for now.

I've not got a Scooby Cavemannick.

Maybe there was some kind of problem with rudder control or they simply were not paying attention to the ship's location.

Guess it will all come out in the wash so to speak.

I was just making dinner and it was a brief snippet on Australian news, showing the bridge collapsing.

I had to post as I guess half of the states would be in bed.

Some here on ATS.

@ 1:20 you can see a ship-wide power outage.
@ 2:20 the power comes back on.
@2:30 you can see smoke start to billow out.
@ 5:33 it hits the bridge and the bridge collapses.

It would explain a lot.

After all if a ship loses its power source, it may well fail to be able to generate the propulsion needed to maneuver, rendering the steering mechanisms ineffective.

You are right all power went off as per the running lights. It looks like this affected steering and the rudder locked in position.

The pilot would have way points for so many degrees of steering at set points, and it looks like this was impacted due to no steering, the ship would have been out of control.

This is terrible. Though I am suprised there aren’t guide barriers to protect the main supports, just in case, to push a ship away from the support.

Very interesting. The ship lost power twice actually. This will certainly play a key role in the investigation.

3:25 power off for second time
3:59 power back on for second time

The timing seems to have been a favorable factor indeed.

The power going off could be the captain trying to cut the engines?

I know absolutely nothing about large container ships.

No injuries aboard the incident appears to be a terrible accident by
all indications although the cause has not yet been determined.
At least one tractor trailor went in the water as the collapse was
obviously instantaineous.

The ship in question is the Singapore flagged container ship Dali built in 2015 belonging to Stellar Marine LLC. Stellar Group of Companies is incorporated in Pakistan. The ship was headed towards Colombo, Sri Lanka.

In his dream, the ruined bridge transforms into a stairway upon which allegorical figures drift upward towards heaven.
