This green flash, a lightning bolt, was observed in a swirling vortex near Jupiter’s north pole

They are claiming it was lightning which can be 10,000 times more powerful in Jupiters atmosphere.

It is green, according to article, because Ammonia in atmosphere.

Very fascinating and beautiful.

Because this is ATS, I wonder how many will say it’s aliens.

Either way, it’s cool.

That's a dead pixel.
What even is Jupiter?

The disfigured borg queen was hiding in a transwarp conduit in that exact position...

It's quite bright! Anyone have any idea what it measures across? That's a massive flash considering it's Jupiter.

That flash is about the size of the Texas pan handle.
I think I am correct at that.
Either way very beautiful and frightening!

It's not mysterious if they know exactly what it is.
🙄

That is true, it is also true that no cell phones exist on 1960s.

It's Aliens and this is why ,

ammonia is part of the nitrogen cycle and is produced in soil from bacterial processes. Ammonia is also produced naturally from decomposition of organic matter, including plants, animals and animal wastes

So it either were extinct Aliens or a demigod farted loud enough to see it ?

Would be cool though if it was completely unexpected or unexplainable.

Danger is when we’re patting ourselves on the back, convinced we’ve got it all figured out..

Going by the size of the planet, if it's an alien, it's a big one.

I suspect they are not far wrong with it being a lightning discharge and a rather spectacular one at that.

To be honest, are we sure it's lightning?
In order to be lightning, it should occur more often.
If this is the first time they've observed this, it could be anything, even an atmospheric phenomenon we just don't know about. Scientist can only go by what they know.

Not saying it's aliens...but it's aliens. 😁

Possible is asteroid - witness Shoemaker Levy comet of 1994 which crashed in Jupiter generating a spectacular series of explosions

The Incredible Hulk mooning us having smashed too far?

It could be a bounce back light if the angle of capture was pin pointed to the aperture... similar lights are seen in movie cameras when catching light on a prismatic plane showing up as light artifacts. I would say this is the same thing but more of light bouncing to and from the source as a direct line of sight appearing as a colored dot artifact instead of angular.

So with all the other crap going on in the world lately, who had "Necron Tomb World" for 2023 on their bingo sheet?

Could be anything, aurora, pixel issue with the satellite, image processing fault, aliens, chemcial reaction in the atmosphere, impact of something entering the atmosphere or simply a phenomenon we haven't seen before that's completely natural.
