Hi midicon, there's no limit, but keep in mind two things: (1) that the contest is for short stories. (2) The flags & stars that count towards the final score are calculated only from the opening post.

As a guideline, I did some research and tests for the first contest I entered and the result was that the total character count (including spaces) that will fit in a single post is around 7,500.

I used M$ Word for writing which gives you the stats as you type. Otherwise, there are loads of online resources... try this one: www.charactercountonline.com...
