memory refresh; the Warsaw Pact was an East-Central Europe defensive alliance to counter West Europe's Nato. Dominated by the USSR ostensibly to counter 'Western Imperialism'.

Russia is getting aggressive.
none of the East/Central European countries is strong enough to stop Russia alone.

why couldn't they unite and form an anti-Russian bloc?
I don't think any of them like Russia.
some analysts suggest that Putin wants to re-form the USSR, which included all these countries East of Austria.

collective security.

I can't see USA / France / Britain going in and fighting there. Germany has become so pacifist they might not either.

comments?
anyone live in that part of the world? would appreciate feedback.

Because Russia owns them by supplying their energy

Britain is sending it´s soldiers to Ukraine.. so you are wrong from there.
As a Scandinavian Ukraine do not YET is a issue Scandinavia or Baltic areas are concerned. Tho Putin`s intrest to get areas Russia had during Rurikid era is a concern, this is Putin´s dream which no areas involved would agree. If issues get out of hand and Putin makes such enormous error he will see Warsaw pact and resistance full force.

If, say, Russia were to attack Poland NATO would be obliged to step in and that would include the US.

The last thing the World needs is more "anti" stuff.

Aggression breeds war.

Not good.

With the exception of Ukraine, Belarus, most of the former Yugoslavia and Moldovia they're all in NATO.

"Britain is sending it´s soldiers to Ukraine".

Are we?

When?

We sent a handful to train them on our anti tank stuff, but no others.

Britain is sending it´s soldiers to Ukraine

We're sending troops to Poland not Ukraine , the troops who have been in Ukraine training Ukrainian forces will be leaving in the next few days.
Our response will be financial sanctions and arms to the Ukrainians there are no plans for British fighting troops to be sent.

After decades of US world aggression all eyes are on Russia, while we continue to support China rapidly rising to world dominance.
It's time to stop watching the news on TV and take off the blinders.

WWIII will not be fought with nuclear weapons; it will be with internal strife in nations around the world, and bio-weapons. Easy peasy.

Sorry Britain is sending weapons,,
Prime Minister Boris Johnson told parliament on Wednesday that Britain was offering Ukraine deadly defense equipment, among other things. Britain has already sent some anti tanks weapons to Ukraine

Or maybe we need to start taking Russia and her concerns serious and hammer out a new security architecture here in Europe that includes Russia on every level. Because, ya know, they ain't going anywhere. So we better find a way to live and thrive together.

Without the power of the main NATO countries and their WMDs(US/UK/France), such a pact would have little impact on Russia and in fact be an invitation to be attacked.

The more I read on the history of Russia and the Ukraine, the more I see Russia's point.

Sorry to say but is more to Russia, Russia, Russia that meets the eye, when it comes to resources and how the US and other countries wants them soo bad.

I will stay on the side lines on the Russia and Ukraine issue.

Something media just wants people to believe what the establishment wants them to believe, we already know that media can no longer be trusted.

That is not an option with Putin. Security with Putin is not possible, if you have seen his one hour talk about current situation you should know why.

Yes. Perhaps we should all roll over and give him what he wants?

And throw Ukraine and all the Baltic States under the bus?

History teaches us that appeasing dictators bent on getting their way by force of arms dose not end well.

If it worked as well as the Warsaw Pact... no, thank you.
