They were incredible. The forgotten girly rock band that set the heat in the early 1970s

And here I imaged you as DeadHead…..go figure.
I remember them well, Fanny was played at the Chicken Box on Nantucket one off season night.
Another time they played at The Casino up on the heights in Falmouth on Cape Cod.
The Casino was the #1 place for me and all my brothers and drew in top quality up and coming as well as established Rock Bands from all over.
Dang RT, now I gotta write about the night I swam from the Capt. Mano to hook with my buddies at The Casino.
I already wrote one short about that boat and it seems kinda fitting to this here, I sang out Oh What A Beautiful Morning from the upper deck which began 9 days of non-stop mega catching fish. We sold Lobster Rolls on the dock at Nantucket.

Yeah, Fanny was great! I thought they’d go places but their candle burned fast and furious I guess but I’m more likely to believe they didn’t play the corporate game and got squashed. What do you think, have an opinion?

You're in luck, my friend. I was born and raised in the USSR, and I had no opportunity to listen to live rock bands. I bought vinyl discs that were smuggled into the USSR for an amount equal to the engineer's salary per month. The guys and I listened to them to the holes and transferred each passage to our guitars and keyboards.
The first live concert I attended was in 1973 in Vienna Led Zeppelin. I was then quite a young man, my parents brought me there. But I remember everything.
My last communication with great musicians was communication at a concert and after it with John Lawton, Uriah Heep, who unfortunately died during his concert in Saratov in February 2011.
After 2014, I cannot travel outside Russia, so this is all my experience (((
You could always attend concerts of groups to which you could go freely. It happens))))

I like these girls. They did not bring something new to rock music, but they were and remain professionals, reckless super-emotional expressive performers)))

I texted a link to my buddy that was with me on both occasions and he says I’m mixing them up with 4 girls from Wyoming.
IDK about that but they sure were and are great!!!
I think they also played in the outside amphitheater of what is now U-Mass Dartmouth alongside bands such as Aerosmith and others.
I remember that night at the (Southeastern Massachusetts Technical institute) very well! The Hippies were camping out down near the pond and watching the girls skinny dip was kinda awesome……..😆
Weed was EVERYWHERE……..LOL

Fanny in Australia, means ladies front bottom..

I might have to have a gander..
Often I get arrested when I do, on those windy days in the city..

Imagine the disappointment at the pub when a group of tired outback farm guy's thought they were going to have a good boy's night at the bar when they heard Fanny By Gaslight was on TV that night and got all excited while keeping the lady's from knowing what they were going down the pub to watch.

Seriously though it's English gutter speak for a lady's privates and spread were ever we went including the states though over there it ended up meaning there back side for some confusing reason.

In reality however it is really just a stolen and abused word, Fanny was of course a very popular 1800's and earlier first name for girl's and continued to be used as such until the gutter slang replaced it, another was of course Gay both a word meaning Cheerful and a Girl's name until both gutter slang AND the homosexual community misappropriated that for there use.

They are both good examples of Stolen words that used to mean something very different and that both got dragged through the mire of the gutter before ending up being used in the manner they are today and of course a modern thing the same is happening to today is Rainbow.

Now back to the Music, I have an eclectic taste in music myself and am pretty broad minded when it comes to music.

For a while in Britain music almost died as an entire generation poisoned there brains with drug's and just listened to beating sounds that hardly classify as music (Oh there were some exceptions and some genuinely brilliant track's during the house music period - Robert Miles, Ace of Base 'winter in July', the KLF etc but I still think of it as a death period for the British music scene that we are still coming out of today though you know Paul Hardcastle's 19 though predating house by more than a decade was absolutely a house style track).

But before that we had some of the best musicians of all genres.

The Police (sting Solo was never as good as his days in the band) for example, Pink Floyd, Queen etc and some of the greatest rockers of all time.

Take Steve Jones, Fire and Gasoline and overlooked album by a former member of the Sex Pistols another legendary British band.

Mp3 and digital equalized music have ruined this but still you can get a feel for it, if however you ever see an original cassette tape or vinyl version it is very heavy with bass almost completely ruined in this video, still good but not as good as it was intended to sound.

More modern taste though I like a band I was introduced to on this site and particularly this song, it is not specifically rock but give it a listen.

I have not got a clue what she is singing but does that matter?.
And another band many of you will recognize from movies and also games are the HU a Mongolian band (think Mongolian cowboy soft rock with throat singing).

As for Girl band's well while not heavy at all I did like Heart when I was a kid back in the 80's.

Still my taste is still stuck in the 80's.

There was just so much great and not so great music in the 80's.

But it's a matter of taste and there will always be an argument between those whom grew up on the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's etc as to which period was the best.

Just like Gay Head on Marths’s Vineyard, now it’s taboo in some circles to call it that.
Hey, you know how the new sailing ship got the name Schooner?
While watching a race from the deck on the Yacht Club at Marblehead a woman yelled out “ look how she Schoons” as the newly designed ship sped by all the others in the race….

Vocabulary terms then and now hold a particular interest to me, especially the nautical ones.

Sorry to interfere with someone else's conversation. But I could not help but react.
For me, the Mongolian group The HU is a discovery. I am delighted. Some moves are very similar to the Russian cult group "Kino" and its leader, who died, Viktor Tsoi.
Of course, Choi played in the 80s, the music in Russia was different then, but some melodies and riffs are strikingly similar.
Thank you!
For you one of the hits of the "Kino" group:

They may very well have borrowed from or been inspired by him.

(the apology is MINE to make and I was off thread in my reply but it was just one of those things that clicked one of my sore points, I hate how language evolves sometimes and how words can lose there original meaning destroying the poetry of speech in the process).

I was being Inadvertently rude in taking the Start of my comment off post, PiratesCut is absolutely correct though I did try to bring my comment back onto thread afterwards.

To be fair though you are more eloquent than many members so bravo and also far more subtle (Which goes over the heads of many sad to say).

It is interesting. The Mongols have always respected and loved Russians very much. Suffice it to say that during World War II Mongolia supplied Russia with free aid, at a cost comparable to Western Lend-Lease. These were fur coats, sheepskin coats, horses, stew and more.
Although Viktor Tsoi was Korean by origin, he is still an icon of Russian rock music. Many festivals, documentaries and feature films are dedicated to his memory. If you visit Moscow, you will definitely walk along Arbat Street. There is a "Tsoi wall" with graffiti, where young people constantly sit and play his songs.
I will give you a translation of his song. which I showed above along the thread. It is called "Change" and is a symbol of protest.

"Wild time of debauchery, everyone wants a buzz and money
And the sea is ruled by pirates, we defend our shore
Always closed doors insanely bored everyone
For a week these blizzards sweep
We share something all the time, everyone needs to earn
If you do not have time, you will be overboard.
Here, weak is dead
Stronger is the one who is solid
But even under escort the devil remains a devil
This is some kind of slot, everyone is waiting for their jackpots
Raising the stakes in the hope of recapturing at least something
It's a big concern to confuse luck with luck.
And if you are not a cheat, you cannot lead to cards
Straight from the school desk girls in carbon monoxide clubs
Burst with passion into these fun starts
Standards violated, everyone was captured
Such is the karma to live in an era of change
Our hearts demand changes!
Our eyes demand changes!
In our laughter and in our tears
And in the pulsation of the veins
Change!
We are waiting for changes!
The authorities and the system changed, the TV format and censorship
Urban culture was built under this new wave
And those who were the crowd suddenly turned into elites
Elites of the old wave were technically defeated
Now there is a new crisis, business is being saved again
All those who burned to the fullest - went into a huge minus
Let's help them, our poor oligarchs
So that their white yachts stay in Monte Carlo
I'm daddy Carlo here, and I'm drinking Pinocchio
And all my dreams are to remain a brute
It's like Tarantino, would kill that Bill
Where can you find him? The forces are too unequal ...
A star named the sun, a pack of cigarettes
Only gotten more relevant after all these years
And don't erase the writing from these gray walls
In our laughter, in our tears and in the throbbing of the veins
Our hearts demand changes!
Our eyes demand changes!
In our laughter and in our tears
And in the pulsation of the veins
Change!
We are waiting for changes!
Such is the karma to live in an era of change ...
Our hearts demand changes!
Our eyes demand changes!
In our laughter and in our tears
And in the pulsation of the veins
Change!
We are waiting for changes!"

We’re all supposed to be friends here right?!
It’s all good.
I can tell you this, we listened to every single Rock n Roll band while working George’s back in the day and I always had a quarter in my pocket for the juke box when back on the beach.
Just remember to Rock On and everything else will just work itself out…..

It was a protest simultaneously against the communist system and communist oligarchs, and against the expansion of the West against his country. In the late 1980s, the situation in Russia was very difficult. I think that the situation in the USSR in the late 1980s is very similar to the situation in the United States today. Tsoi was a genius, but died in a car accident in Latvia in 1990.

By the way, all the same 27 years. Then just don't believe in the conspiracy theory))))

The closest western equivalent to that I can think of would be Roger Waters.

He has a very strong political belief and sense of justice and injustice that also comes across in his album's.

In the 80's it was probably Radio Kaos that summed that period in US Centric west up most aptly, it's basically a moral tale about a kid in a wheelchair in Wales back in Britain were Roger Waters came from and his sense of helplessness until he pull's a wargames (movie) type stunt and hack's the world's nuclear weapons to scare the world into knowing how helpless he feel's and to try to scare some sense into them.
The album is basically a story, it is played from the angle of a fake Radio Station in Los Angeles called Radio K.A.O.S.

His music is often very mellow, here is just one track from that old album but I think one of the best and it showed a hope for the future coming out of the cold war which sadly seems missing today in most of the west.
Musicians are indeed the poet's of our age.
