Shouldn't we have a forum for that?

Anyway, Im here to talk about a possible way forward for a sustainable planet.

Office buildings should be a thing of the past for a lot of professions, when the same work can be done in virtual reality.

Law firms, even courts can exist in virtual reality alone.

I'm sure there are countless more examples but those are the first two that popped into my head.

What about doctors appointments etc? I believe it's all possible but it does require you to become a cyborg of sorts.

When 3d printing allows for organic matter that is indistinguishable from the actual product, that's when we will see drastic changes to our environment as well as the reasons people venture from their houses.

In virtual reality there's no need for traffic jams if you can simply fly or teleport. Mistakes arent fatal.

With so much space being freed up on earth, nature can start to reclaim vast swathes of concrete jungle.

People will travel to experience nature, not overpriced, overrated tourist traps.

I believe we could be on the brink of basing the economy in virtual reality, where real life outside of virtual will be used simply to enjoy real life and time away from the simulator inside the simulator.

It would solve a lot of problems, imo.

The biggest hurdle would be the ethics and intent behind the people in charge.

Can we ever trust them?

In such a futuristic world, something as lame as covid would never have gotten so much attention.

Because the goal would have been reached already.

This is not about our health, when you have politicians accusing you of third degree murder because you go out shopping or enjoying life with not even 8200 positive tests out of 82 million citizens. Lower than 100.000:10, you know they get desperate because they loose the base of arguments for

- pushing vaccines on people that decline
- pushing vaccines on people that should not even take the flu shot's
- taking away our freedoms

that's why in a VR ruled world, you're going to be surveiled like you never have been before. Just because it's possible, not because you should be.

If you have a cellphone, then you should know that the level of surveillance currently possible means that you already have zero privacy.

I expected this answer because it's the typical whataboutism used to justify progressing further down a slippery slope.

It's the same for vaccines. "We already have vaccines, schools already need proof of vaccination what are you afraid about" type of bull#.

Just respect other's health decisions and accept you or the state has no right to interfere. Zero. Nothing. Nada.

It's not a whataboutism.

It's a reflection on the fact that we are already living in a surveillance state.

You must be the type that watches porn in incognito mode.

Lol.

Retro Futurism - techno utopia from the 50s-60s videos on youtube. The megalomaniac psychopaths in the CFR/WEF/Davos club have same vision & mentality toward humanity.

Alot that we see going on in Amerika is right out of the Tavistock entrainment strategy (e-MKULTRA) playbook:
Divide society into political (identity politics), racial, sexual, linguistic, national, church/religion, and age group backgrounds where over time along with continuous brainwashing & trauma based mind control propaganda techniques will create and fracture society into niche groups, whereby this will induce clinical psychosis with the goal of getting everyone onboard to accept globalism and promote technocracy all the way through to transhumanism which goes well beyond just getting a chip implant. Seems to be working well in America.🙄👎

I believe this would be just a continuation and exacerbation of all the issues we currently face with our technology.

There would be some benefits, but I quite firmly believe that humanity is not meant to experience the world through a digital filter. What you suggest might very well throw us down a hole that we dont even know how to escape.

I believe that technology should supplement our interaction with "the real world" rather than supplant it.

Now, these types of technologies can enable those of us who cant travel for whatever reason. But for those that can.. This is a bit like voluntary imprisonment.

Beyond that, the direct interaction of individual biological systems is critical in actually habdling pathogens long term. Absolutely critical.

Not to mention, a system like this would be exponentially more effective in manipulating the masses. The Central Authority could very literally manufacture both what is perceived and how it is perceived on a continuous basis through subtle and overt means.

3d printers are a big deal though. Especially once people figure out that its actually a material agnostic platform. And the same platforms can be integrated with subtractive manufacturing (like CNC) to achieve truly incredible things. Printing everything from houses to little knick knacks, from medicine to food. Though, the latter may have generational consequences that are extraordinarily negative (not that most will consider that).

I do believe we are on a cusp of massive change though. Perhaps bigger than any other in human history, including the Neolithic Revolution. Discussions about it are very important, but we must ensure that whatever we do.. it should be less vulnerable to The Iron Law of Oligarchy rather than enable its fruition.

It's funny how you settled on your idea that I am not aware about surveiled mobile phones, even every character I type now is probably saved multiple times.... which in turn makes your reply even more obtuse and bigoted.

So you're cool with being surveiled and put under general suspicion of being a criminal or becoming one in future? Because you have nothing to hide, I guess?

It starts with small steps at the local level. If cities and counties just removed all the unused pavement and derelict buildings and did low-cost green space. As it is now vacant buildings and lots can wait to be sold for years if not a decade or more.

www.go-gba.org...

Permeable pavement (also known as pervious or porous concrete) is a specific type of pavement with a high porosity that allows rainwater to pass through it into the ground below.
Through this movement, pervious concrete mimics the natural process that occurs on the ground’s surface, consequently reducing runoff and returning water to underground aquifers. It also traps suspended solids and pollutants, keeping them from polluting the water stream. Pervious concrete has many applications, most commonly:

low-volume pavements
residential roads and driveways
sidewalks
parking lots
low-water bridges
patios
well linings
walls (including load-bearing walls)
swimming pool decks

You make valid points.

The idea I'm trying to envision is that we would still spend a lot of time outside virtual, but it would be to appreciate this world and minimize our negative impact upon it.

I don't advocate for an escape into virtual but of course it would become an addiction of sorts for a lot of people.

First, your childish try at calling me something worser than a dumb cow in my own language didn't escape my attention.

Second, just because you have nothing to hide, doesn't imply others do have something to hide, when they exercise their right to decide what the public can know and what not.

No. I said even the bovine-inclined could comprehend.

Know the difference.

There seems to be a disconnect in your mind.

Your location is already constantly tracked.

Your electronic devices are already providing audio and visual feedback.

Even clothing is destined to become part of the internet of things.

I'm trying to imagine in what sort of bubble you are living where you think it's not too late to have the privacy argument.

That ship, the Lusitania 2000, have sailed looong ago.

It's clear what you implied.

I am a female German on an English board, we write in English and you used the female German insult, after explaining how wrong I am, you closed with:

"even a dumb cow could comprehend".

Come on, nobody falls for this dumb excuse. Be a man about it at least.

Back to topic:
I still don't think you thought your idea to the end and took the time to really think about what you were going to put down. There are so many other traps than surveillance but if you're like that, why bother explaining to you, just to get insulted?

Have a nice day.

"In virtual reality there's no need for traffic jams if you can simply fly or teleport. Mistakes arent fatal."

Are you certain of that ? Science Fiction has often become our Science Reality, especially in the last 25 years or so. Plenty of Science Fiction out there which depicts teleportation as a dangerous endeavor when mistakes are made.

Reminds me of the old skit on Saturday Night Live Mr. Bill, a lump of play doh getting squished in a variety of ways, everything fine as I leave the house but the office prankster turns the dail of the office meeting teleported to the left instead of the right and I show up for the meeting a squished pile of play doh.

If we have learned anything over the last couple years, it is that human interaction is important, our children have suffered socially from the result of distant learning, and watching the news each night seems to have hurt the criminal element which seems to be trying to catch up shooting all those they would have shot thru the lock downs in just a few weekends.

Mental health has suffered tremendously due to the isolation of the lock downs. Many can deal with and even thrive but others need that daily interaction to survive

That's because you had a #ty day and decided to share it on ATS.

Go through your own posts tonight and see how you responded to me.

One of those gals that tries to stir the pot and then cries when someone bites back.

Own your part, don't play the weak female victim when someone sees what you're doing.

Have a nice day.

Now you're just being disingenuous.

Look at your responses.

First, you basically admitted your insult was genuine.

Second, I am not crying, my pulse is in resting mode and didn't leave that window for the last couple of hours. However I will never tolerate name calling just because you disagree with me. This is the internet you're going to say? IDK, I expect decency when I have conversations. You can disagree with me all day but pulling insults, crafted to my heritage and gender, that's some sly #.

I didn't call you any names, decency calls for this. You however are jumping to conclusions left and right while being disingenuous to the maximum. Insulting me, then acting like it was a misunderstanding, then your latest Freudian Slip.

Back to topic, you're offtopic and I gave you the opportunity to understand why I wish you a nice day. BTW, it was honest, because how was your day, when you have to resort to stupid insults because of an argument?

When you see me write "hugs and kisses
" then you know I am messing with you. So you can clinch your cheeks now and man up to being honest and friendly, or just not answer to this. You can have the last word though, if you need it so desperate.
