This infuriates me as it seems like the abuse of this fouls the mind of the person during an arrest.
Source: www.yahoo.com...

While I understand the rationale of the use of Ketamine during the arrest of a violent person acting out and is otherwise uncontrollable it also makes questioning this person under said influence problematic in my opinion. This is a mind-control drug by its nature. It would be in the kit we would have when I worked hospice so that folks could be controlled when they were dying and lashing out because their lives were at their end. The abuse of this substance during arrest should be called into question as outlined in this article linked above.

I understand this is commonly given to mass shooters during the arrest. This is also problematic that their statements after being shot with Ketamine are questionable at best.

If someone has already been arrested, hand cuffed and is controlled enough to inject with ketamine them surely it would be better to just put them in the back of a paddy wagon till they are calm enough to interview??
It just boggles the mind that this kind of behaviour is allowed in a country that's meant to be the leader of the "Free" world.
Hello '1984'.

Like many other laws, such as civil forfeiture, it was created to deal with extreme criminals and then later abused by police who don't care what the situation is.

Sounds like every rule ever made.

1 jerkoff does something dumb now we all get punished??

Whoever invented this "system" was the biggest idiot in history.

No you don't burn down the whole orchard if 1 tree drops bad apples. All the rest are fine wtf.

I have a better idea.

Instead of reacting to the problems WE created by being dumb - lets use our brains for 5 min and address the root causes of all this crime.

Y'all are wasting my $$$ on your stupidity. And solving NOTHING while the root problems grow evolve and intensify.

To clear out weeds we UPROOT THEM.
Mowing is so dumb it's just coming back!!

Your response was so brief as to provide so little overview of what you are trying to convey. Are you most simply relaying that as a first responder that Ketamine is not in your kit?

How many mass shooters have been apprehended while alive? One, right? The Parkland kid. From what I remember, all the other ones have shot themselves dead before or when the cops arrive.

Thank you. I raised both eyebrows at the OP. Wasn’t Ketamine mainly used as a horse tranquilizer or something? Seems to me there are plenty of other drug choices available to medical personnel that are better than “Special K.” Right? Plus I don’t even think cops are allowed to just INJECT someone with something. That seems like really incorrect information.

Man, I know a lot of people that are gonna start acting irrational around cops just so they can get legally shot up with ketamine. Last place I’d ever want to go down a k-hole is in the back of a cop car, though.

Seriously, though, aren’t there more sedatives they could be using? What about nitrous oxide? Just get them laughing their asses off so they can just tickle them into submission.

That Dylan kid, I can’t remember his last name. The one who supposedly got to get a crown at Burger King before going to jail.

I felt it was self explanatory in it's reference.

The why, when, should we, do we follow some protocol...we do, and dont...

The thread is misleading in that is widely, universally "the" standard method. It is not.

Thanks, EMT

Thank you for your service to the public good. I was not attempting to be misleading but simply pointing out the parameters of this discussion with regard to the linked article.

Jumping back in here...the Ketamine like other tools..is a choice, at the time, given by who's instruction? Why? Necessary? Protocol?

Can we kill the detained? Yep...any and everytime.

We have many tools...and never use them

ETA: I didn't mean you meant anything other, brother! We're good..and some of the "treatment" options out there are diverse and stagerring.

Stay well, huh!

Have any of you ever done ketamine and still think it is a decent choice either under arrest or dying?

I have done it once and its an absolute no for me. Increased suggestability makes it unethical for arrest if questioning is to happen the same day and it doesn't stop awareness so for dying the person just has the inability to "act out" but all the feels of dying.

*Message to all on this topic from the ambulance windshield out:

The "treatments"..while good, proven effective, helpful and life changing...I'm afraid it's a sign of the things to come out on our streets.

Public, medical, mass injectable, swallowable, topical "treatments" may give way to mass involuntary sterilization, pacification, and execution when someone decides it's warranted.

Ketamine on our rigs...yes, who decides to use it. I'll call it, but won't be happy about it...
